It's so funny watching Bette back in the day. She got it. Not many do. The timing, the reportoire, the research, the drive....there are few performers that can hold a candle to her.
Saw this outside of DC at Shady Grove Music Fair. Whoever her idiot management was didn't do their advance work and apparently the crew didn't find out till they arrived that Shady Grove is in the round! So none of the amazing set pieces could be used, and the entire show had to be re-blocked in a day. That's probably why Miss M kept referring to the venue as "Shitty Grove" during the show. Of course it was brilliant regardless. Charlo, if you're still around - any memories of this date?
Hi could you repost the 2nd part of this? Was looking to rip the vid as I'm a massive Bette fan. It's up on bootlegbetty but don't know how to get the vid from there.thanks!
Dearest Charlo, you were there and I'd love to know if Bette cried every time she sang "Drinking Again"? I saw four concerts where she ended up in tears. And BerlinDirk...YOU ROCK! BklynBoy
we drank a lot together. She wasn't the most pleasant after having a few...but I think the lyrics were true for her at the time of this show. But she cried a lot during Superstar in the early days. Geez, thanks for asking a great question. Folk who were there in the early days saw some amazing moments. She was sweeter then, kinder...sensitive. Thanks again Munchenette. God Bless Ya!
Dear Charlo, the Harlettes, for me, were the glue that held the show together. I couldn't wait to see what you'd pull! If I recall, one night at the Musical Hall in Boston you, personally, carried a plate of "cheese" out onto the stage and I think Bette collapsed to the floor in hysterics. I used to listen to Bette sing, but GIRL, I kept my eye on the "three o' yous"! Thanks again. BklynBoy

I have the recording of Live at Last, and it does not do justice to this brilliant lady actually seeing her on the stage.
