To get your desired row (bulkhead, exit or empty), check in online the day before (as he said) and scan the seating chart. Then pick! The bulkhead and exit row selection will not work with Frontier though, because those are their so-called Stretch seats and so they cost more. Your best bet with any airline is always an empty row, assuming it's not a full flight.
Alaska also just costs $50 on up to upgrade. Anyway, other strategies may work in case you don't really want to shell out the upgrade fee. You can sit in the bulkhead row (or first row), an exit row or an empty row. Any one of those rows provides good legroom (you can position your legs diagonally when in an empty row). And in the case of an empty row of 3-4 across, put the armrests up and it's a bed!
dude!!! thanks for those tips as i am in the near future going to work for an airline as a manager once i graduate college im probably gonna have to travel i will remember about the VIP clubs 1 day pass!!!!
Is there generally an age limit as to getting an upgrade, ie will they upgrade a 17 year old or will a 17, 18 year old have as much a likelihood as receiving an upgrade???
This method of "op-up" is the best way to go. I'm glad that this is not a "go ask the CSA or GA for an upgrade, dress nice, smile, slip them a $20" video. This actually has quite a bit of legitimacy. I fly United so I get UDU but I've done $93 for PHX-DFW on AA and my friend has done ICT-DFW for $45 (not worth it).
What about American Airlines? how much is an upgrade for a coach passenger? we're flying from Miami to Aruba and have got our seats stuck in row 34 and we want to move up. (:
Continental Airlines also lets you upgrade to First Class witch is "BusinessFirst" to them with miles. AirTran & Spirit is nice but I will NEVER fly US Airways again. I find it is the worst airline EVER. But I'm not going to make all negative comments, thanks so much for this info. I will come in handy!
dude i love you my family is going to costa rica on american and were flying coach but im going to tell me dad about this and he is a very frequent flyer
Yeah I heard they were thinking about that. It was 30 just a few months ago! Still worth it if you will utilize it for several hours. There is one airline, I think it is Northwest, lets you buy a month pass now too.
