Calling him overated is your opinion (an ignorant one at that), don't go claiming that he 'isn't that great of a writer just because you feel they're disappointing.

fine, u wanna no the real reason? i dont like saying this but ppl like u are very pretentious in thinking theyre so into shakespeares stories, just because hes so revered by the scholars of yesterday. hes outdated, and yes, overated. ayn rand, james joyce, alex garland (simply for his first book), rudolph anaya, chuck palahniuk, MARK-freakin-TWAIN, all blow shakespeare out of the water in depth AND entertainment. hell, even steve martin wrote a more entertaining comedy. shakespeares just okay...

"oh gee, i just asked where u drew your conclusions from," didnt u get it? i told u what i read, i told u what i basically drew from it (sad emotion and social commentary) but it always ended up the same. too much foreshadowing, but i kept reading because i love his poetic style. thats it. everything else was okay as far as real depth and purpose goes. but seriously, hes great for his times, but we're enlightened now. we need a little more than a sad story. we get better over time. hes OUTDATED.

... okay? ur entitled, but still, all i like about shakespeare is his poetic way of speaking. but as far as exciting and developing stories, hes got a one track mind most of the time, except for his comedies. those i find pretty original. but his tragedies, cmon. u read one, u read 'em all...

Eh, seems like you're the one with a one-track mind.
Let's take Othello and Romeo & Juliet for example - both tragedies, although I think you'd have to be pretty narrow minded to think that the two of them are too much alike.
Entirely different characters and issues being dealt with, both in a unique setting.
This is true for any of Shakespeare's works. What exactly are you basing your opinions on?
