Alright, he didn't need the extra space for braking. You can gather that much by noting the taxiway he exited the runway to. The displaced threshold is used for takeoff and landing ''rollout'' The pilot just made a mistake is all. I didn't even make out the bar until 0:58.
@klem2A The threshold is available for that reason, not just for takeoff, its just this is a light plane since it came from Amsterdam probably so then they need more space to brake
I guess over there it is, but it has to be a pilot's decision. A displaced threshold is included in the TORA, not in the LDA, and therefore should it not be used for landing (again, only according to air law) as the physical strength of the RWY is not guaranteed. Over there it sure seems to be strong enough though :)
Hello Captain, great landing, but it's corrrect to Touch there? You touched down in Displaced thresholds, but I read in Wikipedia that they are not use for Touch Downs.
You really do make your landings look very easy! but one thing i really admire about you is the fact that you're Dutch, yet you make the effort to speak the perfect English you do, therefore makes it easier for people know what you are doing!
I've got a weird question though: How long can 747 fly for on a full tank of fuel?
Sorry for the strange question, but thanks if you answer it!!

@arjennovic Its the are before the Actual runway starts .. It normally consists of Yellow arrows. Aircraft cannot land or take off on these areas though because the concrete is too soft and the aircraft will breakthrough
i`ve heard on many videos the folloing checklist declarations: "gear / check , landing / check"
ok gear its landing gear , but landing?is it a sum of factors that declare that "we are on the correct possision with the correct speed and all settings correct?Or is it just .. landing lights hehe" Great videos!
When was this video shot? I was in the U.S. Air Force and went on a TDY to Curacao in Feb 2001. In this video I didn't notice any of the F-16 fighter jets parked anywhere. I was wondering if they stopped doing that mission.

Hmm. Curious. I think that was a magnificent landing but is it alright if the wheels touched down just before the actually threshold? (Not criticizing, i just want to know)
beautiful landing. displaced threshold is due to terrain on landing path (there are cliffs right before the runway). the runway at TNCC is sufficiently long for 747
@Wargeneralguy. By the book, because below a certain speed the reverse thrust will throw dust or little stones forward of the engines which can be sucked up by the engines, which can cause damage.
@SuredT I've heard the volcanic ash from one of the volcanoes in Jakarta got into the engines of a British Airways Flight 9 (Speedbird 9) because the volcano had erupted at the same time, about 200 kilometres away, causing something like a St. Elmo's fire, and at one point all the engines failed, but it started up again.
@mahadbaba09 This is a visual approach, which means they disconnect the autopilot at a certain altitude. From there they can see the airport and fly manually. Lining up is just skill, pilots get trained for it.
You can't do visual with low visibility for instance.
"And yes, officially it is not allowed." -ahh thanks for this info in the descrption. This is what I actually thought and was asking some time ago about.
"But when you are VFR...[technically, VMC, since all Part 121 flights are IFR from beginning to end], there is no objection...to steepen your approach a little bit and land before the displaced threshold"
Nope. It is not "ok". The approach must remain on or above the glidepath. That's in the regs. Of course, doing a missed is a pain in the butt, and so is overshooting the runway end, so it's the lesser of all evils, but let's not play fast and loose with the strict interp. of the rules.
@videotater not all Part 121 flights end IFR. In the US, some part 121 flights fly to airports after the tower closes, so the pilots sometimes cancel their IFR flight plan once cleared for the approach so that they do not have to close their flight plans by phone once on the ground.
@thejasoncoley Ah, you are correct. Pretty rare exception to the rule, but technically, ya got me on that one. :-) But even then, the "remain above the glidepath" rule remains in effect, whether precision IAP or a contact approach, or completely VFR in VMC. Even part 91 pilots must do so, lest they "recklessly" operate "a civil aircraft". I've gotten busted for nailing the displaced by a mere 10 feet, phone call from the tower, etc. Tower guys seem to love doing that. :-)
@videotater Haha yeah don´t you love teh technicalities? But yeah, in the US, landing before the dispalced threshold is a big no-no, as the FAR/AIM says that the displaced threshold may not be able to bare the weight of a landing aircraft.
Dear Mr. raidersfania; you know why this one was very stable and NOT shaky "like others" ? Because the camera was mount on the "glareshield". The "shaky" clips is because they were "handheld" and i suggest you to sit once in an observer seat, and shoot an approach like this handheld.. Sitting in the cabin you do not feel the same effect like in a cockpit,i'am telling you from long years of experience. PLEASE friends; consider this just as an positive information. I like this footache very much!

Why plane don't land behind the treshold? On anothers videos planes has been landed behind the treshold even if there was an extra runway with this white arrows.
Impressive. You don't really need to land before the threshold though, if you brake using maximum force and set the thrust reversers at max and don't disengage them until you're going 50 KIAS instead of 90 like in the video. Nice landing, though.
Great footage! What is your airspeed on final? How far past the localizer does the crew go vfr from ifr? Finally, how many flight hours do you have? Cpt. or first officer?
@joemct Actually, JFK's 31L and 22R both have displaced thresholds of about the same size as Curacao's 11, whose measures 2700ft. At JFK they are 2500ft.
Cool video! Why did you landed before the piano bars and the touch down zone? I would guess that the visual circumstances allow this and you will also be able to break safely for the exit point... correct me if I'm wrong with these two arguments.

For those people who think that this video is a fake, can you tell me then where I can get a flight sim that has such realistic graphics as SuredT's video? Obviously not. Even a retard knows that this video is real.
