I dind't liked Sinatras version of Granada. Lyrics are completly different , they doesnt have the magic of the beautiful poetry of the spanish version, bisides, Sinatras' voice was not for singing that type of music that was created for educated voices like Pavarottis, Carreras, Domingos etc. period . Im out of here.
@JadeTomZ i do have a pretty good idea of what he is doing. This version is really good, I love sinatra and the way he sings it is great but if you compare the translation, it does lack a little intensity. That's all I'm saying ;)
Even though it is true that once you've listen to this song in Spanish, specially if you're from Spain... You will find it perhaps a bit different. However, each singer puts it's own style into a song. And Frank Sinatra does it in a way that attracts more listeners.
Sinatra can attract only those who haven't listened the Spanish (original) version and English speakers but cannot impress Spanish speakers who know the REAL GRANADA. No way.
It´s a beautiful place in spring (and summer too, but without snow and very hot into the town). Beaches and high mountains in the same city. Sun and snow in the same place. The cheapest city, good drinks (BEER 1925, SANGRIA, TINTO DE VERANO, REBUJITO, ETC), good food (TAPAS, PAELLA, GAZPACHO, MIGAS...) and hot women (MOST) and good FIESTA, paradise? No, Granaaaada....HAHAHA.
H,e maybe great in his unique style and don't get me wrong he is one of the greatest singers of all time, I like him a lot , but GRANADA song needs to be taken more seriously.
I love Sinatra, and this is a really good song. But I dont know if you know that the original version is in spanish and it is a classical song, often sang in opera. If you compare the lyrics, they differ a lot. I think that the lyrics in Spanish have more depth and can relate a little bit more to the actual city of Granada, Try listening to the song in spanish sang by Placido Domingo and let me know what you think. I think you would like it.
@Thorneycroft1937 I just listened to his version and it is really good! Unfortunatelly I don't understand the lyrics, and so I can't really understand what he is saying but his version is amazing!
I love Sinatra, however this song has been sung by so many other artists with better results because the english version is in my opinion, a little forced by the lyrics and the voice made a lighter version of it that did not require a wide range of voice. Hear the german version with Fritz W or Javier Solis in Spanish. To me those are the best versions. I think that Sinatra is great though. it is just not the song or version for him. IMHO.
@chicazup Harsh much? Frankie Lane was also a very gifted and talented singer...obviously the likes of Sinatra are on another planet, but Frankie Lane has had some great tunes, give a listen to 'Rose, Rose I Love You'
Truly I am a big fan of Frank Sinatra however Frankie Laine did a better job making it sound like more of a ballad than a pop song, listen to how he holds the note at 103 in the Vinyltovideo posting.
@kennelguy No credit taken from Frankie Laine, who was an exceptional performer, but It's not really a fair comparison. Frank Sinatra sang this song as the arrangement intended it to be sung. Personally, I really like this version as it's a fine blend of traditional and pop. It's a nice alternative to what you would typically hear in a "Granada" arrangement.
What the heck? It should be a crime that this video doesn't have more views while Nicki Minaj's trash has millions. The modern world is sad. Sinatra is the man and this performance is beyond spectacular.
You're right. Music of this caliber should be having a lot more viewings. Unfortunately, most of the people today are tone deaf. Anyway, the version of Granada is really smoking! Quite a performance. Thanks so much for bringing this material to us.
@jazzsingerableful I've never heard of Nicki Minaj and I'm 17, so there's hope XD! Plus I'm sure whoever he is, his music won't be listened to over 40 years from now :P
