I wasn't born when this song came out and I had no idea that my Dee Dee Sharp Gamble went back this far. Thats how i came to know her. Love you Ms Sharp.
cos while i love listening to it, i find it hard to watch, but yes bless her, she still has a fantastic voice and lokks great apart from the afore mentioned xx
@Lovebryan24 She hasn't had a stroke .... like someone else said, she just has very poorly fitted false teeth (seen it a million times on ppl). However, I don't see what that has to do with the fact that she sounds and, aside from the false teeth, looks great.
@noosmum I agree, it's obvious her teeth are false and badly fitting, at that, however, not sure why that would "put you off", as you said. She still sounds and looks great. I noticed her teeth, but wasn't important enough to initially comment on.
Nice.....uh.....I think, that Dee Dee took the opportunity to show off what a soulful singer she is, but for posterity purposes, it might have been better if she sang the song as it was recorded.....instead of showing off the way she did. There was a reason she sang it the way she did in 1962.....and this version wouldn never have made it on the radio. Just sayin.........
I love this song and I used to rock to it myself, glad you did the doowoop on here. I was wondering if you could email this video to me as I can't seem to upload it. Thanks so very very much.
Sorry, but video files are too large for emails. The video loads only as fast as your internet connection will allow. Once it stops playing, pull the cursor back to the beginning of the video to allow the downloading to stay out in front of the point where you are watching it.
About one week after this song was released, I was dancing the Mashed Potato. Back in those days ('62) it seemed that a new dance would come out about every week. I was in the Navy, and one guy would learn a new dance, and teach it to the rest of us. We would go to dances and absolutely BLOW AWAY the civilian guys, because they didn't know the steps. We were VERY popular with the girls, which really P.O.'d the civilian guys.
Agreed. Sadly she is very under-rated despite her fantastic voice. True she didn't have as many hits as those you mentioned, but I would like to hear more of her work. While this song does sound a lot like Mr. Postman, I actually prefer this song over that one...BUT only by a little bit. I also like Gravy too. This looked like it was a cool show when did it air?
@jukingeo This woman obviously can STILL sing (unlike say Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston). Someone should get her hooked up with an indie rocker, like they did with Bettye Lavette and Drive By Truckers and Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy, because she'd be able to put out some good music. still. She deserves more than just "one hit wonder" status.
@DooWopJoe oh wow that was so cool seeig nedra do th emashed potato to dee dee's song!! i loved the ronettes! always wondered what happened to all these folks. now i can see them on youtube! thx for posting this jam session!
@DooWopJoe Terrific videos, DWJ, thanks for posting. And by the way, didn´t Ms. Talley had a solo performance in this show? (and where were the other Ronettes?)
Glad you enjoy the videos! As I recall, Nedra Talley Ross did one religious song near the end of the show, but I do not have that to post at this time. The only group that was at the event were the Browns. The rest of the performers from groups were there by themselves.
THANKS DEE DEE MADE MY DAY!...she look and sound great ..would like to see more of the other artist that was there also..keep on keeping the music alive...Peace..nycdivas
Glad you enjoyed it! To see other artists, click on More from DooWopJoe in right column. I have uploaded 27 clips, from this video, featuring almost everyone in the audience (just a few more to add soon).
With that incredible voice, amazing that Dee Dee has not done much live...never have seen her play LA and one I would not miss...thanks for this rare treat!
Yes I love all your videos!! Love seeing Ketty,Ruby of the Romantics, Carl Gardner and all of your grest videos.. Could You Please Give me info about this
special that was on.. how many songs did each performer do.. do you happen to have Sandy Posey singing "Born A Woman"?? Love the Red White And Rock Performances Also... I Dont think you can order those any more either...
I believe this special aired only once in 1999, but that may not be correct. It was very long -- 5 or 6 hours, I think, with lots of talking between each performer taking turns doing a song.
@DooWopJoe THIS IS GREAT! I wanted to see this special, but missed it and only got to ehar about it. Here it is 4:00 AM, and I am up like it is 4 PM enjoying these clips. Thanks for sharing!
