  • sure does look like a female - males are smaller with pointy bums

  • @muskokatone It is a male, head smaller then minor workers and does have a pointy gaster. In Camponotus the males are thought to be queens, which is a common misconception. They are about 10mm while queens are 16-19mm. Most males are usually the size of an average worker in a colony. Look at a lasius colony, same thing. Nice try though :).

  • i got a question ....do they come out ofter to your out world during the day?

  • @adollar2 In a colony old enough to produce many males, once they are ready they will try to fly from the nest. So yes they would go into an out world and try to fly. As for this male he was only one of two in the nest and was later consumed.

  • i have the same ants too .........camponotus pennsylvanicus

  • @ClassicAnts Yeah they are a nice species to keep.

  • cool
