I think Van Halen ended creatively when Hagar left. In the past 17 years they have not released anything that can match this album or any previous album. Me Wise Magic was cool with Roth back on the greatest hits album but the latest album is nothing compared to the glory days. I think they should stop writing new material and just sing with what made them great. They might could pull one more album off, I personally would love to see what they could do with Hagar again.

Sammy is kickin in dis tune for sure but eddie is so awesome he cut the path for me and many other muscians like me. I remember my brother letting me hear this when i was a young 12 year old punk style bass/guitar player. this ablum and others along with the grunge and punk i already knew helped shape and make the way i compose my music today. awesome influences Thanks eddie and all of van halen. But in my books Don't Tell Me is the heaviest song. Van Halen is a hard-rock band, but that riff is quite close to metal. Especially when Eddie is playing that riff with his low-E string tuned down a half-step into D-note.

But these are all matter of opinions, I love all those songs you have mentioned and I sense that you are a hard-core Van halen fan just like me and it's nice to write somebody who appreciate a great band!

Eddie's guitar tone in this tune is chilling. It's aggressive, yet has a pure, clean, wide-open sparkle that leaves every note perfectly audible. Of course that's a part of the Soldano-inspired voicing of his 5150. I was just thinking the other day about how Eddie's tone and playing changed through the years. I love the brown sound of the early days, but this is great too. Excellent song, too.

I agree Sammy was better, Dave had a lot of good songs though, but he always reminded me of a lounge singer. (and I am a DLR fan too, Yankee Rose is a great song, but Gigolo is awful.) Sammy is more of a straight-ahead rock singer!

(After this song, the last good VH songs are Humans Being and It's About Time, IMHO.)
