  • On another note, Looking at the styling of the GT-R, It is the facelifted newer model which does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds w/ launch. That's .6 seconds faster than the time recorded in this drag race, which would have made a difference on the outcome. This begs the question as to why MotorTrend decided to run this race as they did, as it does not reflect the true performance of the two cars in question accurately.

  • There is a problem with this race. "The Nissan hits 60 in just 3.5 seconds". But it is well known that the GT-R does 0-60 in 3.2 (old version) and 2.9 (new version) utilizing its launch control. Thus, this drag race doesn't really test the GT-R using everything it's got.

    Regarding the LFA, It runs 0-60 in 3.6 seconds with launch control, so one must conclude that This race was done most likely without launch control, and without drivers competent enough to fully utilize their respective cars.

    LFA is Exotic, GTR isnt.

    If you want to compare with GTR, put a BMW M5 or a C63 AMG, or something like that.

The real sense of it, al the fine tuning of chassis, suspensions brake systems aerodynamics is all about making the lap time on a demanding track. If you just want to win a drag race, purchase a used V6, turbocharge it to the extreme, trow out everything which gives real value to a car (its electronics, any confort, forget about build quality), fit everything an a rod and go...

  • @yoshyoka So you buy a supercar to look good in it. That's perfectly fine, whatever floats your boat. But to say comparing comparable things is pointless is simplistic and unrealistic. You think the Bugatti engineers DIDN'T know they were building the "fastest" supercar on the road? As long as Lexus builds a "supercar", it will be judged and compared to other supercars. Paying 400k for something that can be matched by a 85k "comfortable" daily driver is (pick your analogy).

  • @iambiggus You missed my point. I don't care to look good in it. What I state is that a supercar comparison should also comprehend a time race on a track which test all the qualities of a car: dynamic behaviour, stability, handling, braking. Than they should also be compared on the streets and see how the suspensions hadle it. In real life, the dest super car is the one which takes you from A to B in the least amount of time, and unless you live in a desert it is not a straight line.

    The LFA only won because this was the old GT-R (480 hp). There is a much quicker one out now with 530 hp and a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds!

  • Caddy CTS-V 1hp=$116. Vette ZR1 = $157. GTR=$160. LFA= $679(!). All of these cars post comparable #'s, all do </= to 4s 0-60's, all do </= 11s 1/4 miles, one costs 400k, the rest less than 100k. I think the reason people (including myself) gripe on the LFA is it's ridiculous cost/performance. 10 years of R & D and 400k later you can beat one with a Vette, keep up with a GTR, and peg one with a Caddy. If you buy one to be exclusive you're not a car guy, you're form over function.

  • @iambiggus: Thats because the Lexus LFA is a Supercar. Supercar's performance is not built to a price point. Overall build quality, high quality materials all around inside and out, research, design and performance is what supercars are all about. The Nissan GTR, ZR1, and the CTSV are all great great cars. But the LFA is well worth its price tag.

Lexus did an unbelievable job creating it's LFA and I won't argue that, but to have all other criteria met other than performance is again, in my opinion, mind boggling and not worth the $400k price tag. Toyota really hasn't made anything in the real realm of sports cars for awhile. The bland uninteresting designs and lack of performance inovation has hurt the pre 1997 Toyota fan base and now 400k later, really?? But I would buy the GTR even if I did have the money for a LFA. Tell the truth I'd buy 4 and get better resale value.

I can think of a few production cars that Rival the GTR's times. Ever heard of a the new 5.4 Supercharged mustang? Or maybe the new 6.2 liter corvette, camaro and cadillac CTS-v (all of which have superchargers)? Each one of these cars costs around $50k (maybe 60k at most) and all hit 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile
