Its for tightening the bolts and stuff so the tracks dont fall apart

What they do is lift up the sleeper and pack the stones underneath so in the end you get a more level stable track :)

@PetrolHeadGav it lifts the track up and packs the ballast (rocks) to make the track more durable. newer machines align the track at the same time.

Its A Continuous action tamper .. lifts , lines and cross levels the track .. production can be up to a1/2 mile or more an hour with the right conditions.
