I saw Dan a looong tme ago at the Kennedy Center in DC. Just him, a mic, a stool and a glass of water, and he played for three solid hours. One of the best concerts EVER!
@brooksider926 Like you the one time I saw Dan it was just him at an ampitheater~just knew! all would be drinking, partying, etc., & would not be able to hear him at all. Just Dan resplendent in a tuxedo playing a Grand Piano & you could have heard a pin drop in the audience; it was "A Given" by all who attended; he had everyones' undivided attention; we all loved him~his music~all were there to hear Dan. It was THE BEST "Concert" we ever attended. There will never be another....
I learned some Dan Fogelberg tunes ... Scarecrow's Dream, Longer etc. ...
The amazing thing about Longer was the beautiful open tuning he used on the
guitar. G,A,D,G,B,D ... that tuning was so perfect - and the way the hands
fit the chords when you play it (note for note - exactly as played by Dan). It is/was a wonderful experience just learning and playing this guy's music. One of the most pure voices ever. ~Jack Gallup
God continues to speak through the songs of dan Fogelberg. Before I am a Jason Mraz fan, I will always be a Dan Fogelberg fan. I thank him for the impact he has had in my own spirit.
Dan was the best musician I've ever seen perform; the consummate artiste. I miss him. A lot of us miss him. Going on his website and reading the ongoing outpourings, from around the world, is testimony to the indelible impact he made on so many of us. Michael B.
What a testament to Dan's gentle kind spirit that he suffered through and answered Regis' and Kathy's Lee's vapid and inane questions with such grace and and patience.
The depth of his his soul and spirit was totally lost on those two buffoons.
When I lived in Boulder, he occasionally came into the NY Deli where I worked through college. I waited on him one Valentine's evening. He was by himself, a very mellow guy, totally unpretentious, obviously very thoughtful. Would have been about 1979.
sottythesecond: Yes your Uncle Dan ROCKED! I have been a fan since the 70's when I discovered my brothers copy of Souvenirs. Dan was an absolutely truly talented human being. The world is a darker place now that he is gone.
I was very, very lucky to have been introduced to Dan in the 70's. He was absolutely wonderful. I will always remember his sweet smile, beautiful face and dreamy voice. He was a fantastic lover too.
Dan was a special guy. It's amazing to read the comments that people post about him on youtube. They're all positive. I've never heard a negative word about him. His music was timeless and he was a truly humble soul. We miss you Dan.
Wow, how amazing to have Dan Fogelberg as an uncle. He rocked and what a life he lived! Peace to you and your family. Your uncle was my favorite musician.
Which wife is he refering to ? I thought it must be Jean.. but if this was 1990's it must have been Anatasia..but I though he was already married to her in the late 80's... any idea? thanks
God works in very mysterioius ways is not just an old cliche.......it is the truth. Dan gave the world so much and the fact that he is gone while people such as Manson and Chapman still live means that Dan and John Lennon also are probably reaping the rewards of their work in a much better place where as Manson and Chapman are living in their own self-made hell. The world is not random....listen to the words that Dan and John wrote.
@markymustang There is a God. Dan Fogelberg is gone, and yet I listen to his music often, and I remember him. On the other hand, as you have mentioned, we still have charles manson and mark david chapman. I think of Dan often, and only think of the others when their names are mentioned. So, as far as I am concerned, Dan is here and the other losers are not.
Wow what a great interview! Kathy Lee was right, Dan was rarely on T.V. Which really says so much about the kind of person Dan was-humble, authentic and real.
Where'd 'ya come up with this one?! Thanks so much. What a treat. We only knew him through his music so it's so wonderful to see such a happy, comical, grounded, healthy Dan. So sad to have lost one of the greats so soon. Fighting back the lump in my throat.
It is so great to see Dan like this. Being such a private person, it's nice to see him open up a little. But in a way, it's also so sad to know he isn't going to be sitting down with the talk show hosts again. I miss him. Thank you for the posting.
Much more sweet than bitter. Sad that he almost had to caveat Longer, when it is a fine song by lyrical, musical, instrumental, and vocal criterea; but that is just the way society has evolved--neo-masculine, afraid to be musical. Even Dylan pretended like he couldn't sing for the bulk of his career, but we all heard Lay Lady, Lay; and we know the man can sing. Now they just talk and make repetitive noises, afraid that someone might think they are tyring to play music...weird to me.
Thanks so much for continuing to mine your archives. asquare has it right, it's a bittersweet release to see these clips, but I am so glad to have them.
Pre10der, You are breaking my heart and mending it at the same time. Dan makes me feel like the sun, that just burst out from behind the clouds after the storm. I'm not able to wipe the smile from my face.
I do agree with Dan on the Longer comment. It was simply written lyrics with a lovely melody. The best part of the song, is those awesome vocals behind the lyrics.
This is the best interview of him on the tube, thanks for the posting.
What a great interview! I'm seeing most of these videos for the first time and for a moment it feels as though Dan is still here with us, then it tugs at the heart strings. I appreciate each one that you post, and you for taking time to do it. I'm sure all other Dan fans feel the same.

Speaking as a musician , Danny Fogelberg was about as good as you get ! If anyone disagrees , ask them for their resume .

I remember this interview! I was pregnant with my daughter at the time and bedridden, living in Moline, Illinois.
I remember wishing he would sing but having the utmost respect for him sticking to his own "rules" of not singing before 10 am.
This vid is truly a treasure.
