  • Before he made "City of tiny lights" he was in Bavaria in Fürth. I think that's the city he sings about.

  • @Ethlaegil No.It's his view of L.A ffom outside his house. You can find the interview if you look around..

  • :D

  • At 4:59,he spliced in the night before(oct 30th/77) guitar solo and second half of the song here. The first half of this song was recorded on 10/31/77.

  • "Mama always said, stupid is as stupid does."

  • <3

  • BOZZIO BOZZIO BOZZIO!!!! reminds me of animal from the muppets

  • The fill at 7:55 remains my favorite in music history....

  • @Colelumpkin I remember listening to this song with a drummer that was in the band I was in and I pointed out that part when it came, and he said: so?

But then again he liked bands like the Eagles and Journey, .. yuck.

Bozzio kicks ass in this song and that fill is cool.

  • @GaryNull Some people listen to music for the aesthetics of the melodies and sounds.Others listen to insane stellar stunt playing that all sounds great. Some prefer more technically written music because it challenges their imagination. To a brittany spears fanatic, the fill at 7:55 means nothing to their emotions.

  • @fadethetrade But most people don't really care about music, . . unlike us fans of Zappa and other great stuff. They just listen to the radio and will like it without challenge. I'm not judging them for that. I don't like sports (watching anyway) and don't care at all about it. Everyone is into what they are into. I like music over movies, but most people like movies and TV over music.

  • @GaryNull Well,I like beethovens 9th symphony for the music of it and I love Steve vais stunt guitar playing cfor the skill of it!!! Or maybe Satch's playing but after a while satch gets a little tiresome also.

  • This can rock your brain out...good as hell....paradise on earth

  • Nobody rocked harder than Frank. This vid proves it.

  • FZ rules!

  • filmed 10/31/77 released to the world at large 1979.....

  • @jackdelawack FIlmed 10/30/77 and 10/31/77.The song starts out from the halloween show but at 4:57 zappa spliced a part of the oct 30th guitar solo in there!

  • Zeppelin shmeppelin... ZAPPA IS the GOD of ROCK! his band was like a musical army that attacked the audience with sound. Thanks mom for playing Zappa when I was a kid, I grew up right.

  • Fast forward to about 1:56 and tiny lights starts there. And the drummer is great on the start too!!

  • Zappa =a master

  • Definitely NOT "City of Tiny Lights" but "Cosmik Debris". And also NOT 1979 - the lineup looks more like 1974: FZ, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Chester Thompson, Ruth Underwood, George Duke. But anyway: Good song!

  • @TheAxel65

"City of Tiny Lights" starts at 1;58 | vid needs some editing

  • @ bezzel1: yup, you're right. stopped watching before 1:58 since i've found Tiny Lights elsewhere here at youTube. Thx anyway : )

  • OMG It can't get better. I love it when Frank takes it away 4:10

  • yeah only frank could take it away like that

  • bozzio kills it - the rolls on the bass drum at 2:03

  • Another wicked masterpiece.

  • Brilliant vocals on tiny lights! So bluesy Then a ripping lead from Frank!

  • The first night on oct 28th early show, frank had an even better more ripping solo.I had it on a snuck in cassette tape but the tape got stolen with my car in 1986.Damn! That was his best solo of this halloween series from city of tiny lights.

  • this is 1977 you guys, at Palladium Theater in New York.

  • everypne prefers colaiuta personaly i prefer Bozzio....i think Terry is the best drumer Frank ever had.

  • Agreed. Colaiuta is a freak talent, but the 79 line up was incredible!!! except for TB's tiny pants...

  • He sure was brilliant.

I still hold Chester Thompson in the top spot though.

  • By far i agree .. U ever hear his auditions ?

  • twing no but i did hear the stories and i did met him once for about 10 mins.....great and intelligent guy......he was 5 th in an audtion line of 20 guys after he played the other 15 guys just packed their gear and split LOL

  • Boozio plays like an animal. Love his skills

  • love this song.... it has an evil quality....

  • City is 79

  • Is that Warren Cuccurullo on backing guitar?

  • Adrian Belew

  • ok, thru 1:53 it's 1974, then the '79 band--no ike willis

  • this isn't '79, it's '74 footage

  • The Baby Snakes movie features live performances from both 1974 and 1979 concerts.

  • Nope...the Dub Room special has the '74 footage...Baby Snakes is purely a documentary of the '79 band, me believes

  • nope. baby snakes was mostly recorded in 77 at NYC Palladium Theater so it's the 77 line-up. it was released in 79 though.

  • Very bizarre that I am so in love with this music and I was being born in 1979..... its surreal!

  • 4 frank zappa never got fat einstein!

  • Isn't that a Palladium NYC concert from 1977? (not 1979...)

By the way, FANTASTIC! Thanks for posting.

  • the footage was used for the the film Baby Snakes from 1979

  • Wontonon

  • adrian belew just makes it that much better

  • A great vocal. I saw Belew last spring with his band featuring a very young brother and sister team on drums and bass and Adrian's as good as ever.

  • I think this was one of Zappa's best bands, especially with Bozzio, Mars, Belew and O"Hearn.

  • Must be the same bunch on Sheik Yerbouti, my favorite Zappa album.

  • bozzio was the perfect foil for zappa, who else could do the black page?

  • @benjammin420420 ...colaiuta?

  • This is almost too good to watch only 50 times. I've actually been losing sleep over it. They are all gods, GODS, I tell you... especially Bozzio!

  • I hear ya brother. What a band! What music!

  • Adrian Belew singing and guitar...so frickin' awesome !!!

  • I recognize Belew and Bozio, but who is that on keys?

  • Tommy Mars

  • yeah and some years later he got sooo fat. he's funny, i like him.

  • The drummer is CRAZY =D

  • This is not "City Of Tiny Lights", it is "Cosmik Debris".

  • You didn't watch the whole thing, huh?

  • Frank fuckin shreds on this clip...top 10 guitar players EVER!!!

  • This is from 1974 and it is obvious.

    To those that know Frank.

Is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho or is it Bob Duffy's pants?

Then we go to a cut from Uncle Meat and then live footage from 1979.

    That seems like a b o u t right.

Frank was more into bars than chords.

  • ooh man.. the chills i'm getting now... amaziing man, that's all i can say... What a sick solo!!

  • yeah i like those power chords that ring out when they turn the camera on bozzio

  • I give you a thumbs up just for the name! GO COMMUNISM!!

  • Terry Bozzio!

  • The chords that the Piano plays, The chords on the musical break. The drums really are the hard thing to play for this song even though they don't sound to hard.

  • Such an easy chord progression, yet it is insanely hard to play! Zappa could turn easy to hard in a minute!

  • what chords

  • Fantastic version of a boring song.

    I love this.

    Hate sheik version.

  • 1977, not 1979.

  • who are those keyboardists on City of Tiny Lites?

  • Tommy Mars with the goggles, and Peter Wolf, who looks like the typical stadium soft rocker

  • this first part i believe is actually called Cosmic Debris

  • Well, Cosmik Debris but close enough. :)

  • Great vocal by Adrian Belew.

  • These is my favorite Zappa song.

In particular when the solo launches.
