People only tend to see what they want to see. Anyone with eyes and without an agenda could see that JP was struggling. But his friends were all so consumed with being in couples and wanting to make sure everyone else was that they can't see that he was drowning right in front of them. A lot could have been avoided if someone, anyone would have actually taken the time to get him alone and ask him what was going on in his head. The more they pushed the more confused he got.
