  • @JesseBAndersen so next time don't just talk show the real action cuz i'm to confused what u say shut down and turn back on!!

  • @tomsimon080 Yes. I'm sorry about that. I could have done this video a lot better.

  • @LOLgerasim The information has been given. There are 7 videos about this, and a written blog post. You can find the answers there.

  • will it it work with external ExpressCard slot?

  • is an sd mmc a pci express card

  • @wolfmp5 No.

  • @JesseBAndersen ok thanx anyway

  • @JesseBAndersen So if I don't have an express card then I need to find anotther option for an external graphics card?

  • @utleykyle Besides the ViDock method there really isn't an external graphics card method. There are hacks that can be done, but they aren't very practical. Basically you would solder the ViDock's connector to a "Mini PCI-E w USB" slot. It's too much work for most people and wouldn't recommend it.

  • is this compatible with a thinkpad t420 4236 nvg?

  • @oliverthedrummer Does the ThinkPad T420 have an ExpressCard slot? if it does then the ViDock could work with it.

  • @JesseBAndersen ah yes it does, thanks :)

  • Please respond! i have an hp pavilion g7 laptop. if i got this vidock and the same graphics card as you, do i NEED to have an external monitor? and would i be able to play High end games like call of duty and skyrim on my laptop? i have 8gb ram, Intel Core i3 processor, 2.4 ghz , win7 64bit.

  • @TehFtwGod Yes, no, maybe. /watch?v=g1YOWUAtpWc good luck.

  • @JesseBAndersen thanks!

  • @TehFtwGod Yep.

  • When do you disconnect the monitor from your computer and put it into the ViDock?

  • @ubernerd4 The monitor can be connected to the ViDock at all times. It does not have to be disconnected.

  • @JesseBAndersen Great, thanks a lot for your help!

  • @ubernerd4 Yep.

  • @JesseBAndersen Sorry to have left so many comments, but my laptop already has a Nvidia graphics card and i plan to get a Nvidia graphics card. Will the drivers for both cards be able to function together?

  • do i need to have to uninstall the intel hd software

  • @nobellium1997 No. Do not uninstall the software. All you are going to do is to "disable" it.

  • hey can i apdapte it with an adpter to usb please respond

  • @Flashbaggs No. If you need more information check the wikipedia pages on "USB" and "PCI-Express". USB is slow compared to PCI-E. Graphic cards need the PCI-E port anyways so a USB adapter will not work.

  • youtube changed

  • @RAAMSbigtoe All of Google's tools have changed over the last year. :-)

  • So is this not possible with a macbook pro 13 2010 model with the 320m? I currently own a macbook pro 2010 and almost exclusively use the windows portion of my laptop. I was hoping to make it more powerful

  • @jimmyjxia Does your Macbook have an ExpressCard slot? Rumor goes that the company that makes the ViDock is making a Thunderbolt version.

  • @JesseBAndersen Unfortunately, I just read up the specs of my macbook. I mistook my SD card slot for an Expresscard slot. Biggest letdown of the week right there. Sadly I don't have a thunderbolt either. I guess it's the end of the line for me. haha too bad. Also, apparently thunderbolt is 10gbps while the expresscard is 2.5/5.0 gbps. wow

  • @jimmyjxia That's too bad. With the advancement of laptop specs the market for the ViDock is getting smaller.

  • @JesseBAndersen Well if you're looking for a real performance boost, the best desktop graphics cards are way better than their respective "m" versions, so in many cases people would always be willing to upgrade (if only the Vidock itself was cheaper)

  • @jimmyjxia There are do it yourself ViDocks. Usually there's no case/enclosure, and no power supply.

  • @JesseBAndersen Hey,

I have a 2011 macbook 15.4" with thunderbolt port. Asides from building separate gaming pc, the vidock seems a good solution for improving my machines graphical capabilities.

However my mac doesn't have an expresscard slot, but what i could get is an expresscard to thunderbolt adapter. Do you think this is a viable solution, and do you think that the graphic card would be be limited by the adapter?

thanks in advance, great informative video.

  • @jimmyjxia I doubt an adapter will work. The Vidock requires the PCI-E interface. Thunderbolt is very different. FYI the company that makes the Vidock has shown interest in making a thunderbolt version.

  • @JesseBAndersen heh you don't say, hmmm if that's possible I will be extremely impressed.

  • @gsharpshooter80 Thunderbolt ViDock would be interesting for the Mac fans. I haven't heard of a Windows laptop that has the interface yet...

  • hey what kind of computer is that you are using..? is it the IBM thinkpad t42?

  • @projectALO Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet.

  • I tried for four hours to get it to work today, and I'm coming across two major problems. The first is that my laptop refuses to boot with the ViDock plugged in, it just sits on a black screen. The second problem is that when I try to update the drivers, my laptop makes the sound of an external component disconnection, like when you unplug a flash drive, and the update fails. I can't find a way around this. Please reply, this is giving me a massive headache.

  • @dadope20202 maybe u have code 12 or ur useing a splitter

  • hey, i'm about to buy one of these but do you really need a monitor in order for this to work? I'm thinking of using this one with an Nvidia card. which one would you recommend?

  • @Hnashs I have heard that some Nvidia cards work with the laptop's screen. My experience is based off an ATI card and that required an external monitor.

  • I am quite curious about this. As I know, Nvidia Optimus technology allow you to accelerate the graphic on the internal monitor but somehow it is slower than running at external monitor due to cloning process. How far are the performance difference between two of them ? (Internal and external monitor)

  • this might be a dumb question but im just curious. the express card is where u put the wireless card in right??if so im definately getting one of these guy and goin ATI.

  • @yogi1226 Check Vid 7 of 7. I also recommend that you check wikipedia and Google Images to find more info on the ExpressCard slot. There are other ports like SmartCard reader, Sd card reader, mini PCI-E, eSata and others, but they won't work with the VIDock.

  • @TheFranklin214 In my case using an AMD card yes. Some Nvidia cards don't need it.

  • thx lot

  • @xiaofan0328 Yep.

  • Hey Jesse Can you please help me, I checked the compabiity list for the ViDock 4 and I was wondering if this one will work with ViDock 3,it says in the compability list, but I wanna be extra sure. If it doesn't work can you please send me a link of one that works in ViDock 3; please. I'll send yu a message with this comment cause youtube doesn't let me.

  • @Rexatom Responding to your message now.

  • @JesseBAndersen

    k thnx

  • ok im running a Compaq Presario CQ56 3.00 RAM and 2.20 GHz processor and im looking to upgrade and the first step would be graphics card i do not know if this laptop is compatible or not and i have litrally searched for hours with the information i have is there a easy way of finding out if i have an express card slot.yes im aware im a noob

  • @xXsamlockeXx Use google or bing images and type "ExpressCard slot" and check your system for a port that looks like it. FYI it's bigger than the sd card slot.

  • @JesseBAndersen i dont but is there any other way for me to upgrade because i cant get a graphics card either?

  • @xXsamlockeXx No. Without the ExpressCard slot you cannot do it. Sorry.

  • Do know if my sony vaio VPCS111FM has express card slot?

  • @MarcoThe961 According to the CNET review that Sony has an ExpressCard slot.

  • @JesseBAndersen oh thanks is a express card/34 slot right?, and am colombian can i still buy vidock?

  • @MarcoThe961 Yes it's the 34 one. Check their website to see if they will ship to Colombia. Most likely the ViDock would get very expensive.

  • i have an Acer 4530 running on AMD Turion 2GHz and 2gb ram, is this device compattible and what are the possible GPUs I can use and the upgrades to make for it to work?

  • @speedtobeat I have GPU details at my blog. Basically if your computer has an Express Card slot then you can use it.

  • what graphics card do you have in your laptop?

i have an ati radeon 5730, when i tried to play crysis 2 it starts to freeze and lag. so i was thinking of purchasing this. I want to know how much difference it really makes. I also heard that the pci-e really limits the gpu in the vidock and not allow it to function at full potential? is that true?

  • @SpartanXx666xX The X201 Tablet has integrated graphics. ExpressCard 1.0 does limit the ViDock + Graphics card. ExpressCard 2.0 has a lot more potential with the ViDock.

  • What if the laptop has its graphics card integrated with the motherboard??

  • @KoolCatsProduction You would probably have to disable it via Device Manager just like I did with the Intel HD Graphics.

  • I have an Intel Core Duo. 2.3Ghz.

    Will ViDock work?

  • @TheDeRitter I think it will. I would consult with Villagetronic's Support page.

  • Are vidocks compatible with all laptops?

  • @LysergicandDank No. Usually you need a decent system CPU and an Express Card slot (34mm or 54mm).

  • help, i restart my laptop and it says cant find displays

  • @TheLobsterOfFate Is this with the ViDock attached? If so then remove the ViDock.

  • @JesseBAndersen But i cant follow your steps then?

Can you give me detailed instructions on how to install the vidock 4 please, I tried watching your videos, and going to the site, I still dont understand I disabled my main card in device manager, I shut down the system and plugged the vidock 4 in and it wouldnt go on any screen, says vga not detected, So

could you please help me? thanks

  • @TheLobsterOfFate Your system might be different than mine (I tried it with a Lenovo X201 Tablet with Windows 7). What graphics card with the Vidock4 are you using?

  • @JesseBAndersen xfx radeon 5770 hd

  • i only play for a few minutes because my computer sucks so badly its not that fun to play

  • hey can you use the vidock 4 by connecting it with a usb? or something else because my laptop doesent have a express card slot.

  • @TheJooooker The ViDock 4 needs an express card slot. It won't work through USB.

  • i deleted all of my old comments i think :-)

    keep posting...

and to the person who guessed i was 15, wow!

    your good...

    school/college was stressing me out...

  • im not a horrible person, i just had a horrible day... and i could surprise some of you people as to how much i know about computers, so dont criticise me if you dont know me...

  • @MrAcme15 We all have good and bad days. :)

  • @JesseBAndersen sorry... i forgot how out of order i was... i dont agree with what i said anymore... you have my sincere apologies...

  • @MrAcme15 It's all good. Peace.

  • screw you all... i meant that i thought you could use the laptop graphics on the laptop screen and the external on the external screen... and its supposed to be hot swappable... this doesent make it sound very hot swappable to me... this seems pointless, cos you have to mess around with loads of settings to use the external, and then mess around with loads of settings to get it back again...

anyway, i had a bad day the day i posted all the negative comments, sorry to jessebanderson...

  • @MrAcme15 From my tests I could not get the ViDock to display on the external screen and have the laptop's screen working at the same time. If it's supposed to be "hot swappable" I could not get it to work that way. My last video shows a lot of trial and error.

The ViDock seems to be a solution for those that need to use it for lots of continuous hours. Or for laptops that are docked 24/7. For most mobile needs a dedicated discreet graphics is a better way to go. (like Alienware PCs)

  • @JesseBAndersen yeah... problem is i forked out loads of cash on a laptop before i realised that i wanted to do gaming on pc... i might build a gaming rig at some point, that will save all the confusion that you probably had to go through... sorry again...

  • @MrAcme15

    Now you talking,

keep going that direction of nice words in the feuture.

    Don't reply

    - Mrwonnabee

  • @MrWonnabee im replying just to annoy you xD

  • @JesseBAndersen

So sorry, if me and MrAcme spammed your channel...

Hope seeing some new great videos form you!

    - Mrwonnabee

  • @MrWonnabee It's no big deal. There's bigger problems in this Universe... like people trying to create black holes... ;) hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAcme15 So you got the better guide? Thanks.

  • @JesseBAndersen sorry... had a bad day... the vidock is a really confusing piece of kit... well done for cracking it...

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAcme15

Chill a bit and let him know what you like and not like instead of telling him.

I cant see you uploaded any guide like this for the Vidock 4.

So until you come up with a better guide/introduction stfu or atleast behave.

  • @xitahr Thnx. I do acknowledge that the video doesn't show the steps and MrAcme15 has a point. Sometimes I don't have time to create the full step by step guide. If someone has a better guide then please share it. It is annoying when someone critiques something, but never offers a solution. That was the case with MrAcme15

The "Switching graphics" shows some steps. The Try and Try again vid has plenty of blue screens, and plenty of mistakes and proves that I have 1 working method. Again thnx.

  • @MrAcme15

Mracme15, i guess you are 15 years old, then stop comment on these exelent videos!

Where you from kid? China? i guess you are from a Zoo!! YOU IDIOT!

  • @MrWonnabee i am 15, only thing you got right.

i am not from china, or from a zoo, you idiot -.-

i do go to school -jerk- -.- tell me a shcool that tells you how to install a vidock.. retard...

actually i do... i have built 5 p.c's, an oc'd i3 rig w 5770, a phenom II x4 rig with 5870, and a couple of old p4 rigs with radeon x series cards, and i fix peoples p.c's for fun...

soz, g2g and fit a new psu in my mates p.c (y)

and o.k, if i ever do waste my money on a vidock, i will do that...

  • @MrAcme15

Ahh, So you are proud now?

U built 5 PC? and? who cares? It's only some screws, not more than that

My 8 years old little brother built his own PC a little month ago.

He is absolutly fantastic, and he learn everything about computers, so fast.

He is a nice guy,but... you are not a nice guy...thats the problem...

How do you fix others computers? i might have an idea... you update the GPU?

Wow, that was a hell a lot of work -.-'?.

Please, delete your negative comments spam!
