  • Your version is my favorite version of this song.

  • lovely. The streets of laredo was obviously written by an old cowman who'd heard this song at his mother's knee, and remembered it fondly.

  • Excellent version

  • A superb rendition of a classic learned at my Mother's knee. Thankyou

  • great!

  • Check out The Streets of Laredo.... Same melody altered slightly with years of separation across the Atlantic... The Scots Irish brought it to America.

  • Kevin, we have cried to this song, loved to this song. The line "light hearted boys make the best of old men" is a sentiment we shall live our lives to. Your voice has such a soulful quality, the man you never got to play the song for...his heart would have been full. Thank you , Dawn xx

  • This was played on the fiddle at my Uncle's funeral - he was an Armagh man living in Glasgow - I have been searching for a good version for my dad since then - this beats all others hands down. Fantastic - love your other videos too - Limerick Rake is the Mutt's Nuts !

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Yes, hhartely35 is right - a real pleasure it is!

What is that in the backround?

A recorder or what?? Anyway, beautiful!

I'd give it a more prominent spot in the mix

  • A tin whistle. I was not 100% happy with the sound and I wanted to add a sort of ... 'followed the wars' sound. Hence the drum beat and the whistle and it was background. But I think you're right - i think I will try a remix one of these days!

    Hope you're well my friend!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • I love it, too, Kevin. My mother's father's family (McCord) is reputed to have come from Armagh, and I used to work with a young woman whose parents (Hearty) were both from Armagh.

  • Thanks Stiophain. McCord is certainly a name I would associate with that area although, I must admit, I have never been there!

    Thanks for the support.

  • I love it.

  • Thanks Chris.

  • It's funny when I listen to you, the Irish neighberhood I live, in Montreal called Point-Saint-Charles, suddenly seems more beautiful. In the middle..no surrounded by giganstesque railroad wards since 1860, the Irish with poor french canadian worked then almost as slave to built the Canada coast to coast railroad engines. A bit as the Chinese who built the Rail out west, they where treated as shit, after being used and abused. It was a deep slum for long. Getting better now. Salut my friend.

  • Thanks for that Boucrate. People I am from don't know much about Irish people who went to Canada. The US and England were the usual destinations, or maybe Australia. But interesting to know about the folk that headed your way.

  • Bit too much of sound effect for my taste but,

    great song, very well sung!!!

  • An old problem of mine to be honest - the options I have alas.

    Thanks for watching anyway!

  • Great stuff mate!

    5*

  • Thanks as always bear!

  • Keeping these kinds of songs alive is a solemn obligation and you perform something far greater than a song when you share them with the world. Excellent performance, Kev.

  • Thanks Luis.

  • though not our world, it's beautiful none the less.

  • Thanks for watching and for commenting :o)

  • Haha, on the frontpage I only read "The Bard of Armag..." and I thought "..eddon" :D

Great song, but where did the percussion and the flute come from? ;)

  • LOL.

    Hi Andreas,

Well, I had the percussion playing in my ears as I recorded and I added the tin whistle later. And I am busy listening to different versions of your 'request' - soon!
