preciosa interpretacion, he estado tratando de encontrar un album que el hizo con the beatles llamado The burt bacharach orchestra and the beatles, en donde sta alfie y muchas mas todo en instrumental, please consiganmela
It's fascinating to see the "inner life" of a song. I never understood musical theory, my music teachers at school all became desperate, but I love watching your videos :-)
You are amazing! May i ask how you do the notes at the top? Im just 13 and i like writing piano music and i need something like that! Ive been looking everywhere...Thanks :)
@americasgottalent97 I record the scrolling score in GarageBand as it plays the midi file. I use MidiKeyz to record the digital keyboard. I use ScreenFlow to record the screen and to layer the three videos into one. Thx.
@7notemode Thanks :) If you have any free time could you please send me a message explaining how it works? I really want to transfer my piano playing to sheet music but i dont know what i need or what to do...Remember only 13 :)
Nice interpretation of this song, overall I didn't like it very much. You failed to keep the melody alive because you were improvising so much. After awhile I forgot what song you were playing and thought you were just making up your own piece.
i really enjoy your arrangements, your harmonic knowledge/taste is impeccable and it's very generous of you to provide the sheet music. It would be nice if there were chord symbols as well. Bravo.
Your renditions are very enjoyable. Just wondering if the scrolling transcriptions are available anywhere. I would love to have it. You're a very good jazz pianist.
Read somewhere you said "Ivory sings to me emotionally at x-level..." or similar. Don't know you said this before or after you got the Galaxy II. For people not as professional as you are, they might not really want to have both Ivory and Galaxy II. So what do you say to these guys? Galaxy II or Ivory in terms of just Steinway piano for the emotional type of piano playing and Jazz? SSR, playable, iLok, ..etc.? What do you say?
nickchip5, I marginally prefer Ivory although I play both for variety. I can get a little bit more tone coloration out of the Ivory, which is more important to me than SSR. The problem with these instruments is that you have to buy them first before trying them, so it's always a risk. I don't mind iLok.
Impressed with your interpretation of this fave Bacharach composition. Nearly forgotten the lyrics come back, "as sure as I believe" as may be said of your perfomances. I've never been as certain about anyone how your compositions touch our hearts. Thank you for posting this one.
The new piano tone is very nice, it gives me a feeling of listening to some Dave Grusin a few years ago (in a good way)! Your piano tones seem to have some soul to them so good choice.
Very nice. I agree with Jazz2511 about the touch, it's rare to see a performance with such expressive touch. Scrolling music is great, I almost cconvonced myself I could play along!! lol :)
I've always loved the distant feel of this song...there's so much you can do with it...you really captured the intent of the internal key changes that subtlely take place. I'm really surprised more pianists don't take advantage of this great tune...Thank you for this lush arrangement....you really caught the intent of the song and didn't overdo the improv...I love the fact you kept it basically simple and relied on alternate harmony to accentuate this great tune.....thank you
Beautiful Tom - so tasteful, not just in the wonderful subs you use, but in your touch. This is so important I think, especially when improvising in free time - dynamics, articulation, pedalling. Most just worry about getting the notes, but so much could be learnt from studying (copying(?)) not just what you play, but how you play it.
And the scrolling notation helps to 'decode' some of your fresh ideas on this great Bacharach song.
Bravo! Great harmonization. Best version of Alfie I've ever heard. The end of this song always seemed to strangely hang without adequate resolution. You solved that problem beautifully.
Since I don't do LH solo in this piece, the LH plays a supportive role. LH helps to define the chord voicings, provides occasional counterpoint melody and rhythmic support. I didn' use many LH only voicings, with single RH melody line like in traditional trio playing. Mostly I used two hand voicings.
Nice teaching upgrade on the three components w music...I don't play this song but now will try it out! Thanks so much,it's an uncomplicated and pretty arrangement that's easy to listen to.
Fantastic playing. Well done for all your hard work and practise. It's paid off beautifully. tilleytunes.co.uk

Wonderful version....But a little bit too technical....Bill Evans's version is perfect. It's deep, complex and so touching...

Tom - could you do a tutorial on Alfie. Yours is by far the best arrangement I have heard, including Bill Evans'.

Thank you jthaw. Bill Evans was the foundation of this version. I'll put it on my list.
