Sorry to see what heppened to your 5. Mine caught fire too even though I had the inline fuse fitted to the anti perc fan. It turned out to be the wires to the temperature sender on top of the exhaust heat shield shorting.

As lee3r24 said they are well known for the perc fans causing fires.

Perc fan = electrical

I would say the moral of the story is not necessarily remove the perc fan but fit an inline fuse. Alot of the 5's were recalled for this exact reason, perc fan siezes up draws too much current melting the loom causing a fire.
