Brilliant cover... a complete reinvention., personalized to the point of being unrecognizable, but very recognizable... haunting, profound and deeply moving.
I had the good fortune to see Barb and Michael Parker perform in London in the late 80's....sensational...and like a good wine she has gotten better with age. Stylish rendition of Bobby Zimmermans lil tune...!!
just listened to Joni's Both sides now, 2000 and it remnded me of this superlative performance. Can't bear it - so much great talent, so little time to waste at work!
A beautiful version of the song. She brings out hidden depths in the song, fills it with sadness, sorrow and compassion. Somehow seems more appropriate for 2008 than the original. Almost like hearing it for the first time. Very moving.
Amazing! she does it beautifully, vaults right past the dangers (the songs identification with its era and composer) into her own interpretive strengths. KO'ed.
I like this. Barb has a great voice and has made some great records. Perhaps the performance is too theatrical for some to stand the close scrutiny of up close visuals/tv, but this was a performance on stage to a live audience. Has anyone got a clip of her singing Waterloo Sunset they could post? Her version (or versions) is very beautiful.
This isn't going to appeal to everyone but to my mind it attached far more meaning to the lyrics than Dylan's original. Whereas Dylan just got across the anger, Barb Jungr brings in a blend of pity and derision too. The arrangement is technically competent and Barb is in perfect control of a stunning voice. Dislike it, by all means. But don't just dismiss it as shit.
Imagine for a moment that you are a songwriter who had success with a tune. Now some old lady re interrupts your lyrics and brings a whole new audience to your song. People who wouldn't understand your song the old way. BUT Jungr ignored the original hook. Unacceptable. But not shit.
Another outstanding performance. Barb has always done well with Bob Dylan songs. She has always shown be the beauty of his lyrics through her performances. Great job Barb as always. Thanks Misodread and Youtube for sharing this video. Outstanding!!!!!
My, how she reminds me of the French singer Barbara.

a shame about the poor sound and picture quality as this is one of the best interpretations of a great timeless song.

When Barb mouths the words "How does it feel" its spine tingling.
Superb

A very nice rendition, you can tell she's really LISTENED to the lyrics - not just "sung" them like so many artists do with lyrics.

I have loved her voice since she used to appear on TV as Jungr and Parker.
Ashamed to say have no recordings of her voice - all that is about to change!!!
Sorry to hear of her recent sad bereavement - all best wishes for 2008, Barb.
