If people begain to have a negative outlook on BP and stop buying their products, it doesnt help. The money they can be earning could be sent to those effected. There was an accident in which people should be compensated if they were harmed in a way that affects their ability to work or has caused loss of income or value. There was an oil spill just off the coast back in the 70's, and it took them forever to cap that too. So it has nothing to do with how far out it is, but it does have everything to do with dumbasses wanting to drill oil even though it doesn't benefit us at all.

A couple million barrels of oil dumped on our soil actually sounds a lot worse than a couple million dumped in our ocean. But what environmental regulations did or didn't do is irrelevant, as BP failed to actually abide by them, and the rig has been drilling in deep water since 2001.
But you seem to be painfully ignorant about environmental regulations outside the US. The only countries with looser industrial standards are third-world countries and China.
BP constantly stated almost from the beginning that they would pay. They were paying claims before the 20 Billion. They were paying before Henry Waxman wagged his ugly finger at anyone. That's probably why they act unfazed because they know they are doing what they can but they have to be hauled up so people can get in front of a camera and look important. It won't help in November.

Just look at the estimation reports they gave to the US government week by week on how serious the spill was. It's obvious they didn't want people to know how bad it truly was. Honest to god the Americans are really getting on my nerves here. It was an accident tha BP has so far spent a billion putting right with another 20 billion ear marked to help. You do nothing but bitch instead of helping out. Obama is attacking BP to take away from his useless period in goverment so far. All i hear is BP was cutting costs. Where is the proof? They are blocking any criticism or difficult questions from the facebook and youtube pages they have set up as part of this campaign. If this was a "man contest" they would fail miserably. If you think sitting on your back side watching tv is going to do it then great, carry on. So far BP has spent over a billion and plans to spend at least another 19 billion more. Who knows, maybe they made a mistake but they are putting there money in there pockets and trying to put it right. Hearings! great but not going to clean up the mess is it!!!

There was an accident in which people should be compensated if they were harmed in a way that affects their ability to work or has caused loss of income or value. What will be compensated for and by whom is decided by LAW. Sadly we have a govt and ignorant portion of society that wishes to make decisions based on emotion and populist anger instead. See Chavez rulemaking for a better example.

We have a legal system to compensate people for wrongdoing which has been at work for hundreds of years. This is just political extortion to win points and it's illegal. It saddens me to see so many people buying into the propaganda. BP had already announced several times it would compensate and had set up the system to do so. Now instead of people wronged getting compensated with this money, most will likely go to Lawyers.

Were there not such heinous environmental regs here, which by the way the rest of the world does not have to adhere to, we could drill on land where humans can actually work and stop the sucker much much much easier. There was an oil spill just off the coast back in the 70's, and it took them forever to cap that too. So it has nothing to do with how far out it is, but it does have everything to do with dumbasses wanting to drill oil even though it doesn't benefit us at all.

No other country will go through all this and they are the ones you want us to be like. Except for that of course. We need to buy our oil from them. A couple million barrels of oil dumped on our soil actually sounds a lot worse than a couple million dumped in our ocean. But what environmental regulations did or didn't do is irrelevant, as BP failed to actually abide by them, and the rig has been drilling in deep water since 2001.
But you seem to be painfully ignorant about environmental regulations outside the US. The only countries with looser industrial standards are third-world countries and China.

BP constantly stated almost from the beginning that they would pay. They were paying claims before the 20 Billion. They were paying before Henry Waxman wagged his ugly finger at anyone. That's probably why they act unfazed because they know they are doing what they can but they have to be hauled up so people can get in front of a camera and look important. It won't help in November.
