Tosin you should really further with this, perhaps put it on an album. I know it's really different from what you have written and put on the album, as this has a much more happy feel to it (don't get me wrong, there's happy on your albums, but just a different mystic kind of it), than many of your songs so far. I really like the classical, even baroque-ish feel to it. Think it could fit in really well as a break part :) Greetings from Denmark :)
I know youve probably gotten this question before many many times but how often did you practice a day when you were younger and how often do you practice daily now? Or rather how many hours did you practice
tosin... i love your technique and your playing, as well as your band but finding out that your name in youtube is nextguitargod disappoints me, makes you look arrogant, and nobody wants their artists to be arrogants. now people will flame me.
metal definitely opened up my mind to lots of other music...but at the same time, there was a point in my life where i looked down on everything that wasn't metal. i was stupid then.
@websterx9 I know he meant Tosin is more accurate. Its just that some people seem to think that, at some point in the video, he and the metronome aren't together.
That Ibanez RG is friggen gorgeous... I wish I was endorsed so I could get something like that... closest thing from the looks of it is the RGT320Z which is gorgeous as well... I guess I'll have to make due with my Prestige hahaha! Great playing and I'm super jealous...
I would like to see someone "expressing passion" whilst playing over a 4/4 to 5/8 back to 4/4 and 3/4 then 4/4 again time signature change... You have to focus to play that.
i dont feel the passion. the life in his music. its as though it was only meant to impress and not to express his own feelings. i find it dull and monotonous.
@mr20barefoot i can agree with that at some points and for some songs and if you see him live he doesnt seem too passionate cuz he's so focused (unlike vai or satch) but i do suggest then listening to some of his more ballad-y songs like "point to point", even "on impulse" but ESPECIALLY "modern meat"..that songs is nothing but feeling....hope that helps
@mr20barefoot Listen to animals as leaders. It's in his picking, his tone, the way he uses dynamics and the way he knows the way to express a note, rather than to play it. Just because he tears up runs doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. He knows just when tickles you and to stop running and start explaining what he's trying to say. When he plays an arpeggio all nuts, it's like he stops and plays the melody out just to explain what he wanted to say. Like a man unlocking his troubles.
Its funny how metal has opened so many people's eyes to other different kinds of music. This video is a good example, considering most of us are probably here because of Animals As Leaders, which most of us probably wouldn't have ever heard if it wasn't for our preexisting taste in metal.
@TheModCon It can go both ways imo. It's true I think that metal has made people more close minded, but it has also been a gateway to other styles of music for a lot of people as well as maybe opening their minds to ideas/themes musicians have talked about through their music.
@lakai944 D --> Haha, I actually came across them by luck. I never listened much to metal with the e%ception of Mortal Treason and As I Lay Dying. I mostly listen to Buckethead and Coheed and Cambria, but I love instrumental music, jazz, and heavy sounds, so I fell in love with AAL. Fucking amazing band. Gotta love Tosin.
It's because of metals ability to blend with anything. Anything that can be done in music can be done in metal. I can't say that about any other forms of music. When people listen to metal they are hearing other things mixed with metal from pop to Indian music. Metal is the ultimate eye opener to someone who wasn't introduced to great forms of music at very early stages of their lives. Some things just shouldn't mix with metal though, like rap and autotune.
@Fluffypopcicle I've often just thought of metal as intensified forms of other music, which can also go back and forth between a more typical metal sound and another genre. So, yea. I'd agree. Metal is one of those genres that should be viewed with the same sort of status as jazz and classical.
I'll tell ya... more brothas should dump on their shitty blingy hip-hop and get down to their roots again.. fishbone, living colour, bodycount, hendrix.... now this guy. he's clearly a guitar legend already. cant wait to hear more aal.
@CancerianChris I like that you speak about black roots and the musicians you mention are living colour and bodycount lol... how about some Cannonball Adderley, some Count Basie, Miles Davis, Coltrane.
holy fucking shit. he is by far one of the most inspired guitar players out there. i mean...fuck, i wish i could do that. Omar Rodriguez, Pete Townshed, I don't know. Adam Jones? Simon Posford. Akerfeldt. Abasi fits in, he truly captures something unique.
In all respects as talent goes, I think I'd like to call Tosin the best guitar player I know, technique-wise and his varying genre playing. Just, he's amazing.
After all the years I finally find out I haven't been using my thumb to it's fullest potential, and all this time I thought it was just another appendage.
