  • Oluwatosin Ayoyinka Olumide Abasi, you are the master of technique for me.

  • Really really nice. Not many guitar players can use their thumb. Keep up the great work

  • Obviously CGI

  • hahaha ur username is perfect

  • Tosin you should really further with this, perhaps put it on an album. I know it's really different from what you have written and put on the album, as this has a much more happy feel to it (don't get me wrong, there's happy on your albums, but just a different mystic kind of it), than many of your songs so far. I really like the classical, even baroque-ish feel to it. Think it could fit in really well as a break part :) Greetings from Denmark :)

  • His guitar has dreads too!

  • The metronome play by Tosin

  • I hear slap, but see no slap. So confused

  • Whenever I see a youtube username like xnextgtrgodx I think ''What a fucking egoist''

though in Tosins case its fully justifiable lol

  • why did he get rid of his dreads?!?!?!

  • guitar slap sux

  • what model is this! do they make 6 string ones?

  • @cheese0tron Read the video description. It says what guitar model it is... >.>

  • I love how his youtube is "next guitar god". If only he knew 3 years ago he'd soon need to change it to "THE guitar god"

  • please make this into a song please

  • will since God himself doesn't clip the ends of his guitar strings then from now on neither will i

  • A video of a metronome practicing to tosin abasi.

  • If I was black I would so have dread-locks, no questions asked..... so jealous

  • @seth3556r why cant you have dreads now

  • nice guitar ! and taping solo!!!

  • What the. I don't even.

  • Wao!SuperPlay!!!

  • Robert Johnson on Electric guitar!!

  • How much do you ask for your hands? I pay anything.

  • Crap, that is one hell of a hitchhiker's thumb

  • I remember when I first found this video through bulb wayyyyy back, and it had like 6000 views. bwaha. It's insane how big they've both gotten...

  • Yeah, I give up.

  • did he ever play bass?

  • Jesus...

  • Tosin isn't playing to the metronome, the metronome is playing to Tosin.

  • Metal musicians/listeners are the most tasteful and appreciative to other genres and anything really.

  • enter your text here

  • This is the only guy i have ever seen who uses all 7 or 8 strings of his guitar well..almost all others just play a drop tuned guitar..

  • ...Ive never loved a black man..until now.

  • He MUST do a song with it, like named: "The Jungle of Agitation" or sth. this is awesome and I love rmsolympic1's comment xD

  • I know youve probably gotten this question before many many times but how often did you practice a day when you were younger and how often do you practice daily now? Or rather how many hours did you practice

  • are those dreadlocks

  • 7 strings too easy for him :/

  • yeh slap dem strings they've been verry norty

  • The metronome sounds almost in time with Abasi

  • Still my favorite of all the guitars I've seen him play. I'd surely buy this if it was a production model........or it he were to sell it.

  • @GuillermoSmyser He did sell it

  • sure none of us would probably be able to play it be you should really make out sheet music for this... XD

  • tosin... i love your technique and your playing, as well as your band but finding out that your name in youtube is nextguitargod disappoints me, makes you look arrogant, and nobody wants their artists to be arrogants. now people will flame me.

  • @NekGuitar I was thinking the same thing :/

  • @NekGuitar Yeah, but he is guitar god :D If I'll be lucky enough a I will have chance to talk with him so I can tell you if he's arrogant or not ;)

  • @Shenkeey Misha is Co. Writer too :P

  • metal definitely opened up my mind to lots of other music...but at the same time, there was a point in my life where i looked down on everything that wasn't metal. i was stupid then.

  • Tosin and Bulb in one band... what music that would've been<3

  • @wowaccpass

    It'd be so... blissful

  • @wowaccpass Animals as Leaders = Tosin and Bulb (co-writer)

  • @wowaccpass That's exactly what AAL's self titled is...

  • he sounds perfectly in time with the metro to me.

  • O.O

    omg

  • Tosin Abasi was on time with the metronome the whole time.

  • @alzedtri You don't get it he meant the metronome was not right for tosins timing that means that tosin is more accurate !

  • @websterx9 I know he meant Tosin is more accurate. Its just that some people seem to think that, at some point in the video, he and the metronome aren't together.

  • @alzedtri I see....

  • He makes those pickups sound like a hang drum -- fan-facemelting-tastic.

  • gonna see his band next week , amazing guitarist

  • tosin abasi's mom is part gecko if she had him

  • Tosin had to get rid of his old metronome, it was paying too much attention to his skills that it couldn't maintain tempo

  • Is it just me or does that guitar neck look too small for his hands?

  • ummm... omg. so gooooooood! =]

  • @jonrg77 Because he's not tearing guitar to pieces with alternate picking!? Tosin is a completely different player. Tosin owns you!!!

  • @jonrg77 Racism!?

  • @jonrg77 And you're a silly cracker. This guy has more talent in his giant hands than you have in your whole body.

  • @jonrg77 lol, everybody's going mad.. i found it hilarious

  • That Ibanez RG is friggen gorgeous... I wish I was endorsed so I could get something like that... closest thing from the looks of it is the RGT320Z which is gorgeous as well... I guess I'll have to make due with my Prestige hahaha! Great playing and I'm super jealous...

  • I would like to see someone "expressing passion" whilst playing over a 4/4 to 5/8 back to 4/4 and 3/4 then 4/4 again time signature change... You have to focus to play that.

  • Everytime I see him play I wanna quit playing guitar :(:::

  • me and my step dad nicknamed him gorilla hands his hands are the size of my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL thumbs up if u agree

  • what's the point of playing guitar after watching this . :(

  • Im calling bullshit! HES A ROBOT, nice try cyborg.

  • @saltytsp hahaha 'nice try cyborg"

  • I love your playing. It makes me feel like I am a dragonfly.

    Thanks.

  • always lookin fresh. always fly as hell.

  • what is LACS mean?

  • @littletingoddess96 Los Angelas Custom... Something.

  • @Plague413 haha..

  • @Plague413 k thanks

  • he makes it look so easy.... not

  • noice

  • i dont feel the passion. the life in his music. its as though it was only meant to impress and not to express his own feelings. i find it dull and monotonous.

    just an opinion people.

  • @mr20barefoot i hear passion. Go see him live. The man puts heart into his music.

  • @mr20barefoot i can agree with that at some points and for some songs and if you see him live he doesnt seem too passionate cuz he's so focused (unlike vai or satch) but i do suggest then listening to some of his more ballad-y songs like "point to point", even "on impulse" but ESPECIALLY "modern meat"..that songs is nothing but feeling....hope that helps

  • @mr20barefoot Listen to animals as leaders. It's in his picking, his tone, the way he uses dynamics and the way he knows the way to express a note, rather than to play it. Just because he tears up runs doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. He knows just when tickles you and to stop running and start explaining what he's trying to say. When he plays an arpeggio all nuts, it's like he stops and plays the melody out just to explain what he wanted to say. Like a man unlocking his troubles.

  • this is awesome, the only issue is the metronome is distracting, otherwise great stuff!

  • I want that guitar !!!

  • @rubiconuk1981

    Agreed! It's a HOT guitar!

    - Wulf

  • wat kinda pickups r those o.O?

  • Im glad he is showing that double thumb and double pluck technique.

Check out Victor Wooten if you're interested in this technique yourself.

Just a heads up Wooten does it on bass, but try it out.

  • i seriously hope this riff is on the next AAL album!

  • I'm pretty sure this excerpt is in irregular metres, so the metronome is just meant for a background pulse to come back into the main riff.

  • Comment removed

  • @koranae agree.

  • He is a guitarist and he slaps better than me. A supposed bass guitarist. It's kind of sad.

  • The dreads should come back

  • Its funny how metal has opened so many people's eyes to other different kinds of music. This video is a good example, considering most of us are probably here because of Animals As Leaders, which most of us probably wouldn't have ever heard if it wasn't for our preexisting taste in metal.

  • @lakai944 I'd say actually for the most part it makes people more close minded ^^

  • @TheModCon It can go both ways imo. It's true I think that metal has made people more close minded, but it has also been a gateway to other styles of music for a lot of people as well as maybe opening their minds to ideas/themes musicians have talked about through their music.

  • @lakai944 Although the ending your comment is somewhat smug, I agree :D

  • @lakai944 Or pre-existing taste in Progressive

  • @lakai944 this isn't metal this is pure art

  • @lakai944 D --> Haha, I actually came across them by luck. I never listened much to metal with the e%ception of Mortal Treason and As I Lay Dying. I mostly listen to Buckethead and Coheed and Cambria, but I love instrumental music, jazz, and heavy sounds, so I fell in love with AAL. Fucking amazing band. Gotta love Tosin.

  • @lakai944 metal has led me all the way to old blues artists like robert johnson, son house etc. thats pretty cool

  • @lakai944 Couldn't agree more, I found animals as leaders from periphery, i found periphery from sikth, found them from protest the hero and so on...

  • @lakai944 its not funny...its brilliant

  • @lakai944 lol true that man

  • @lakai944

It's because of metals ability to blend with anything. Anything that can be done in music can be done in metal. I can't say that about any other forms of music. When people listen to metal they are hearing other things mixed with metal from pop to Indian music. Metal is the ultimate eye opener to someone who wasn't introduced to great forms of music at very early stages of their lives. Some things just shouldn't mix with metal though, like rap and autotune.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I've often just thought of metal as intensified forms of other music, which can also go back and forth between a more typical metal sound and another genre. So, yea. I'd agree. Metal is one of those genres that should be viewed with the same sort of status as jazz and classical.

  • hahah the first riff sounds like some intense ass diddy kong racing!

  • hillbilly metal!! your amazing tosin!

  • I WANT THAT GUITAR

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • AndyAngelZ do you have a basic feel of rithm, cuz i think you dont have, listen more carefuly the metronom!

  • @NEGATIVE87 He's inferring that his playing is perfect.

  • I saw a suggested video on the side was Dino's 8 string demo and I couldn't help but laugh.

  • I give up.

  • Here I thought I was the only one to play victor wooten ideas to guitar. :S I feel like such a shitty guitarist watching this. XD

  • Did any one catch Tosin's mistake?

    Yeah, neither did I.

  • I miss the dreads

  • Thumbs up if hearing this makes you cry on the inside.

  • It amuses me how Tosin's youtube name is "xnextguitargodx". I think he's already a guitar god.

  • that ibanez is ridiculously nasty. almost as much as 3 guys one hammer.

  • see how this video has 215,290 views?

    215, 289 are me.

  • haha white box! at :33!

  • could somebody tell me : what's this hell guitar ? looks like a RG 320 but with 7 strings... (i'm french sorry for this try to speak english!)

  • @jockercyril It's an LA Custom Shop Ibanez, so it's specifically made for him.

  • How did I just find out about this guy??? Damn rocks I sleep under and the meds that keep me there...

    All hail TOSIN!!!

  • I think your username is wrong. You're the xforevergtrgodx

  • hahah he had an X on his hand looks like he couldn't drink at a club.

  • @Mrbigboygay Ahahah, nice catch.

  • how he do that?

  • 00:33 "Enter your text here" ......I quit.

  • Double thumbing... I have to learn it

  • Tosin doesn't work to a click, the click works to Tosin.

  • As far as I can tell he is right on time with the metronome, it's called n-tuplets.

  • I'll tell ya... more brothas should dump on their shitty blingy hip-hop and get down to their roots again.. fishbone, living colour, bodycount, hendrix.... now this guy. he's clearly a guitar legend already. cant wait to hear more aal.

  • @CancerianChris I like that you speak about black roots and the musicians you mention are living colour and bodycount lol... how about some Cannonball Adderley, some Count Basie, Miles Davis, Coltrane.

  • @JByer777 you forgot victor Wooten... you should be hung and stoned to death..

  • Oh God... the inside of Tosin's room O.o

  • @madmartyr17 i bet there's a wave of babies in the closest

  • What model ibanez?

  • Tosin is a BEAST!!!!!!

  • DUDE YOU SUCK! lol jk :)

  • tosin's metronome is the first one in history to sweat.

  • @latinjguzman Haha, yes indeed: the metronome is practicing with an Abasi to become a better metronome.

  • @rmsolympic1 hahaha

  • @rmsolympic1 LMFAO!!!!!!! NOW THAT IS FUNNY AS SHIT LOL

  • @rmsolympic1 L.M.F.A.O.

    ain't that the truth!!! hahahahahahahahaha

  • What can't you do???

  • @LaceratedBalls be different color

  • OMG your playing a 7 string probably the only one i have seen without a 8 lol

  • i think the metronome is off his timing

  • @AndyAngelZ The metronome hits on the upbeat of his playing.

  • @AndyAngelZ He is perfectly on timing with the metronome. expand your vision as a musician

  • @Jfuck420 Haha dude I think he was making a joke saying that Tosin has more perfect rhythm than the metronome.

  • @AndyAngelZ no its not

  • @AndyAngelZ try it

  • @AndyAngelZ i just lol'ed during a lecture. cheers :P

  • It's weird how the music is so frantic yet he's so calm

  • Comment removed

  • no where as good as tosin but watch this! /watch?v=a74aDUvSPak

  • i feckin luv his hair :)

he has epic guitar skills aswell ofcourse

  • holy fucking shit. he is by far one of the most inspired guitar players out there. i mean...fuck, i wish i could do that. Omar Rodriguez, Pete Townshed, I don't know. Adam Jones? Simon Posford. Akerfeldt. Abasi fits in, he truly captures something unique.

  • In all respects as talent goes, I think I'd like to call Tosin the best guitar player I know, technique-wise and his varying genre playing. Just, he's amazing.

  • After all the years I finally find out I haven't been using my thumb to it's fullest potential, and all this time I thought it was just another appendage.

  • I need to learn how to use my thumb like that....I don't get how he does it.

  • slappa da bass... er... guitar

  • Holy shit man, this is amazing. Kudos.

  • i am born anew in his genius

  • 11 Guys Are Spiders And Can`t Move Her Legs Like His Fingers^^
