I WENT TO HAMI IN 1992, ONLY FOR 2 YEARS COUSE I HAD A BABY, BUT DOES WERE SOME OF MY BEST YEARS, LEADERS COME FROM THAT SCHOOL PEOPLE WHO DONT GIVE UP,,SO KIDS NOT STOP IF ONE COULD MAKE A DIFFENCE, TWO COULD MAKE A CHANGE AND 3 COULD RIPPLE THE DIFFENCE INTO A CHANGE THAT COULD NOT BE BROKEND...ONLY KIDS WITH MINDS LIKE HAMIS STUDENTS COULD UNDERSTAND THIS COUSE THERE SOUL IS MOVED MY MELODI THAT SPRINGS LIKE MUSIC TO THERE EARS ,,,,,,LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!!!!!!!
pft. these kids didn't walk out of school to protest anything. they walked out of school so they wouldn't have to go to school, take tests, or hand in their homework. give me a break. I hate it when people take kids being slackers and try to turn it into some sort of political activism to suit their own ends.
@carltonbauheimer we missed one period. and a lot of these kids are good kids who turn in their work and are very responsible. we just wanted to have our voices heard. we didnt trash anything we never cameoff the sidewalk we did what we set out to do which was protest.
I attended Hamilton High in the late 90's. Hamilton is probably this best school in Los Angeles. This is my first time hearing about the possibility of them closing down my beloved school, this has driven me to tears. I think this would be on of the worst mistake, and could greatly affect of community. Hamilton is a school where the creative can hone their skills, dancing, music, and art. I truly hope this school can make it, and turn out more positive people in this society.
Please let there be a class of 2015. I'm an 8th grader and i just found out that i got into the Music Academy. I was told by my band teacher, Mr.Taguchi (yes the same one that taught at Hamilton for 15 years), that the music program would still be there next year. Let us hope this is true.
As a teacher here from Florida, I am so very proud of those students for standing up for what they believe in. You students are very special and are a direct reflection of the excellent instruction you have received from your educators. Teachers everywhere are very proud of you.
Right on Hamilton students! Right on to the folks who posted the video! If you are down with what you saw Hamilton students doing, search "Two teachers and a mic." Check out the song and help us stand against these stifling cuts to our public schools! Get on the phones, y'all!
Two Teachers and a Microphone stand in solidarity with Hamilton HS students, parents and teachers. The arts are essential to our intellectual, emotional and social development - MUSIC EDUCATION FOR ALL!!! The voice of the youth has been decidedly left out in the struggle for our country's public education system. Continue to make noise - RISE UP and demand what is rightfully yours!
Proud to see several of my ex-students in the mix. Fight for your education. Make your voices heard! They can pretend they don't hear you.....but they do. The arts are very essential to our lives. Those who think defferent have dead souls! may other schools support and copy your efforts. GO HAMILTON!
@osanavy7 if you know anyone who got footage of BIT, CAA and GS speeches, please have them post it and share! This passionate and evocative film is just one viewfinder-view of the day...it includes only a fraction of what was said, played and felt. So, post more!
Don't feel--and don't BE--divided, people! The "Powers That Be" depend on us NOT being unified because when we are, well, we'll send them rolling backwards with our roars!
My son and I were there. I was moved to tears. The students organized this whole thing using facebook and word of mouth. It was amazing. My daughter is hoping to attend HAMI next year. We were there to show our support for my kids' future high school. The Hamilton kids/speakers were so articulate! These are our future leaders. Why isn't the state investing in what it needs...EDUCATION OF OUR YOUTH! It was inspiring. Make some phone calls people!
yes, save our schools, but what about the other academy's at hamilton. Music and humanities got least of the pink slips, where's BIT, CAA, GS?! i kno they gave speeches too.
