  • @greenNroses Tom delonge use EVH Flanger and T.C Electronics G-Force Multi Fx Unit for delay

  • I basically have no clue what they said, but it all sounded fancy shmancy...

  • anyone know the settings for the blues driver???

  • can you give me the settings ?

Love his tone, I have a Plexi 1959 Reissue with the cascade mod, I think that is like the dookie mod!

  • know anything about tom delonge and blink 182???

  • @greenNroses Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, most of the time with the marshall 1960 cab. He also has the gibson tom delonge signature that has only a gibson dirty fingers at the bridge.

He now uses AC30's with AVA.

  • @fdxx00 Yea i know all that stuff, i want to see his current effects like delays and flanges he uses! I just got his old sig strat and running it through a Triple Rec and a JMC 900 sounds just like old blink!

  • @fdxx00 ..and he used the Fender Tom DeLonge Strat until blink-182's first tour in 2003.

  • @greenNroses Yeah!

  • What strings and string gauge bille Joe use for his guitars

  • @101guitarest Ernie Ball Super Slinky

  • the little green screens at the bottom are the receivers for the wireless transmitters on the guitars. from there it goes to the Marshall heads and to the cabs

  • Would you mind explaining how the whole rig works? Like, maybe sort of a chain diagram (where do they plug in the guitars? What else plugs into what?) That's not explained very well in the video, do you think you could clear it up for me?

  • @2cooldoyle53 They both use marshall superlead 100s

  • How are the guitar amplifier mics positioned

  • what marshall cabs and heads do they mainly use

  • I hate it when they don't show you the guitars

  • I hate it when they don't show you the guitars

  • Do ya know what the settings of the blues driver are?

  • @ROBandTHEfuzz you see the yellow wire covers? all the cables are hidden inside and under it. the pre-amp that runs from the marshall heads are all connected then run to the cabs.

  • wheres the clean and mid sound coming from and how are they wired up?

  • @HaydenAottg The clean and mid sounds are coming from the 3+SE preamp, which is switched in using the RG-16 audio switcher. If I recall correctly, the Boss Blues Driver is also switched in for mid-gain sounds (like the first few chords of American Idiot).

  • How are the two marshalls connected to eachother?

  • Comment removed

  • @RevolutionRock101 @rjmmusic I'm pretty sure it's just a splitter like a y-cable.

  • are those marshall heads and whatever else heads they use wirelessly connected to the amp cabinets, which i am guessing are marshall cabinets

  • @ROBandTHEfuzz No. A tube amp turned on with out a load will burn itself up. And a speaker cab kinda needs the power and signal from the head to be useful. There is no system that allows heads and cabs to operate wireless from one another... at least not without other power amps and nonsense that would be rediculously expensive and would make their tone sound like shit.

  • @ROBandTHEfuzz No, the amps are connected to the cabs in the normal way.

  • this was 2009 and i've never seen this. thank you GDA.

  • You never think about the back crew lol

  • Is that a PLEXI?

  • @seeker909 Yes, they use 1959SLP Plexi reissues modified by LA Sound Design.

  • NO WAY! Now those three chords they play over and over will sound crystal clear

  • @pegasuslover97 lmao.

  • I Want Guitars!!! DO THE GUITARS !!

  • It's a modification done to Marshall Plexis and JCM800s that is part of Green Day's sound. LA Sound Design does the mod.

  • What is all this shit ... loops? Pre amp outs? Power amp ins? Can anyone explain it to me in laymans terms? I plug my guitar straight into my JCM800, sounds fucking great...why would I want more?? Someone enlighten me...

  • Why is everyone bashing Green Day. They clearly aren't the most elaborate band, or the most talented; but they do what they do for their fans and they put on really great shows. They aren't assholes like many other bands, and they care for their audience. He doesn't have to use fantastic guitars or anything... He plays power chords through a string of distortion pedals. Why would he need anything more than just a Tele or a LP Jr? Green Day has character. That's something some of you should get.

  • all of this top of the range equipment. thousands of dollars worth, and Billy uses a les paul junior. The worst guitar in the world.

  • @theinck ya and somehow with that guitar and his "Blue" guitar he makes the best music in the world. the guys a fcuking magician

  • @theinck The les paul junior is the worst guitar in the world? I'd love one...

  • it would be great if they wold show billies guitars!

  • Does anyone have a Good Charlotte vid I want to know what they use too :I

  • Who the fuck would want to emulate Green Day's guitar sound let alone give two shits about them in the first place lol?

  • @MindstormRecs Who the fuck would watch a video about Green Day just to comment on why would anyone like them? Oh wait...

  • In my opinion a bit too much gear for a rhythm guitar player

  • sellouts fuckin sellouts

  • Hey! I saw a video like a year or two ago where billie joe himself was showing us some stuff like blue and i cant find the video anywhere. do you guys have it? or maybe know where it is? Thanks! :D

  • @rjmmusic could you get a picture of the amps also the blues driver settings to this would be greatly appreciated

  • Hey guys!

an SM7, a Sennheiser 421 and two Neumann 103s are used for each of Billie’s two Marshall heads (going into the two 4x12s).

    Cheers

  • How does Jason White get the tremolo effect with the Line 6 DL4??

  • @FerSalem117 I read in Guitar Legends (I think that's what that magazine was called), Billie said that what they did was that they recorded it with just the distortion effect, strumming at each count. After recording only they used the tremolo effect from the recording program. He said they did it that way so there won't be any inconsistencies.

I manage to get it on my POD XT Live. I set the tempo to the song, tremolo effect set to 16 beats (forgot what's that note called XD)

  • @silentcypher Thanks ! =)

  • so, does Billie use the Dookie modded Marshall for their pre-American Idiot songs, while the Lead modded amp is for American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown? i wonder which amps he uses for which songs.

  • @guy6666657 Billie's stage sound is BOTH heads at the SAME time. It's the different guitars and Billie's playing style that dictate what comes out of the cabs.

  • @rjmmusic @hansblooey what mic does green day use on their cabinets

  • @hansblooey Okay thanks that helped! But whered you get that info?

  • @2cooldoyle53 @hansblooey is the guy in the video (at least in most of it). I'm the guy hiding behind the camera.

  • @rjmmusic Shit dude really sweet! I took his advice on my marshall amp and it actually made it sound better thanks .

  • i can see blue in the background

  • this would be better if green day were in the video.

  • @powertotehchord I agree.

  • what marshall amp does billie joe uses?

  • @102938475698 marshall 1959 slp

  • Ok everyone, there's 2 marshalls. The dookie gain is at 10:00 and the SELead is at 11:00. output for both is at 11:00. Billie's tone does not come from the amp settings. It comes from his hands. Does Brain Stew sound like slayer? I keep suggesting to people that they turn the gain down to give their sound more dynamics. The BD2 is simply an overdrive to add drama at certain cues. and to t0psecretshit, it takes 7 loops to facilitate the Clean, Mid and Big switching.

  • @hansblooey Hey, can we get the EQ settings on the amps? Thanks.

  • @hansblooey is it true that Billie's bridge pickup on blue is the Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck Jr? several different websites say that so I was wondering if its accurate.

  • @motor4832 Yes, Seymour Duncan SH-4. It HAS to be angled, perpendicular to the strings won't sound right.

  • Comment removed

  • @hansblooey

could you give the excact amp settings please and blues driver plz

  • @hansblooey could you please tell something about the black les paul jr like which year it is from. And also can we use an eq pedal instead of a preamp. And when you say billie's tone comes from his hand, do you mean where he hits the strings, and how hard he hits it?

  • @hansblooey slayer uses jcm 800's to

  • Greenday use ruffly the same amps as AC/DC

  • how does green day get there distortion... is just from there amp or is there a pedal or something

  • holy fuck its rocket science and i thought punk was simple.

  • @stankler this is as simple as racks can get i guess

  • what kind of mics are placed in front of the cabs?

  • @clust90 The silver ones are Condenser mics

  • @clust90 yeah maybe it's true......the silver ones seems like the audio technica at4047 do you think the same?

  • dead simple incredible tone, thats really all you need!

  • isnt it sad to have a rig like that... and waste it all on power chords

  • @Haveada someone has obviously never listened to any green day

  • why use a switcher for just one effect? ridiculous.

  • @t0psecretshit They also use it to switch between the Marshalls and CAE preamp, and I think they use it to control the channel switching on the CAE as well (not 100% sure on that last part).

  • @t0psecretshiI

It allows the few effects they have to be completely cut from the signal chain, bypassing those circuits completely. The less circuits the signal passes through, the less noise.

  • Does any1 know wich venue that is?:D

  • There is a video of Billie Joe doing this video but he's showing us Blue and a picture of him as a child on it and I was wondering if you guys might know where it is on youtube?

  • Hi Ron.

Do you know what microphones do they use for the Marshall caps? Thanks a lot. :-)

  • @rschilch i have no idea but i can take a random guess. looks like 2 mics on each cab and the black one looks like a shure sm7 B that ive seen videos of mick jagger and james hetfield recording with in the studio. as for the silver one idk. maybe a neumann? im sure greenday can afford those.

  • did he say dookie?as green days album or just something else...like he means one amp for american idiot and one for dookie...?

  • @Billiewhat13 The mod that's done to the amp is called the Dookie mod, because they did the mod at the time they were recording Dookie. They still use the same mod today - no changes that I'm aware of.

  • @rjmmusic do they use their distotion from the amps or the cae

  • @rjmmusic What was the "Dookie Mod?"

  • @Winkler96 shure u4d

  • the secret must be the blues driver pedal

  • whyy the hell do they have so much gear? All their music sounds the same and consists only of power chords

  • @AngryLlamaz Yeah, its brilliant.

  • Another question, sorry :). In a rig photo that I saw there were 2 poweramps, a Marshall 9200 and a Samson S700. Why do they use 2 and what are they driven by? Thanks again.

  • @bluepingu345 i dont have the answer to your question but just a fwi, thats the oold rig from the american idiot tour

  • @yutuubfreak Thanks :)

  • Do you know what the unit near the top, which seems to switch the guitar input (labelled 335, R8 etc.) is called? Thanks :)

  • @bluepingu345 That's an input selector, built by Bob Bradshaw. Now replaced with one I built for them. :) It switches between all of Billie Joe's wireless units (he has one per guitar) and selects which one is currently on.

  • @rjmmusic Thanks a lot for the super quick response :)

  • @rjmmusic is it possible for you to tell us his amp settings

  • where ends the patchcable in jasons heads at 2:07? thankyou

  • @gitaard those are the imput cables to the amps.

  • i love how billie joe still goes pretty much straight into the marshall head. very easy and very punk

  • Green Day has always had a great crunchy Marshall tone.

  • Those guys seemed pretty pissed that they had to do that interview lol.

  • @cordanscedo Not at all, they asked us to come down and were very cool to us. Although, they, like me, probably aren't used to being on camera. :)

  • @rjmmusic Oh, that's cool then. The first guy just seemed really crabby or something. God, I'd love to have that job! Cool video and cool rigs!

  • Some people will say they don't like Green Day. However, Billie Joe has ALWAYS had a great sound.

  • where do these bands get their racks from.

  • i have a 100W vox vt100 combo amp. It has a general "UK 90's" preamp option and a tube phase that lets me get a decent dookie sound. However, i would really appreciate any advice y'all have to offer (i'm going to be playing live soon and really need to get this tone ironed out.)

In my amp, the guitar signal first passes through the "Gain" stage. Next it is filtered through the preamp that i have selected. It then goes into a "Volume" stage. Next, the EQ's then Master and finally the tube stage.

  • @HandsomeMrMoe I would greatly appreciate any advice on what the Gain, EQ, Master, etc. should be set on. Any advice on how to simulate the modded preamp stage used by Billie? The tone i'm going for is going to be used for "Welcome to Paradise." I need that kind of pulsing, crunch sound, if that describes it :p I'm not sure if I want to get all over-driven or not.

P.S. I think that my "UK 90's" preamp is much more gain-y than the standard Marshall super lead head.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP

  • @HandsomeMrMoe Wow, triple post. (sorry, but im obsessed)

My current settings are: Gain, Volume, and Treble all a little less than 3 o'clock, Mid at 1 o'clock, and Bass and Master at 12 o'clock. (The amp has a variable Wattage, so i can make it louder w/out cranking the master and getting extra distortion.)

  • what city were greenday playing in

  • wow, this guy doesnt know anything about these rigs, he didnt even know what that white pedal is in that second rig. looks like a bb preamp.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheRealErob wow. i guess you don't either. now go jump on some boxes.

  • @rjmmusic Hey Ron, do you have any pictures of the amps or contact with Hans. I've been desperately searching for the settings of these amps and all I've gotten are blurring pictures and very vague answers. I've spent a lot of time, money and patience in getting this exact rig together. I sent Hans some messages through YouTube, but seeing that he hasn't logged on in 2 months, I don't see him answering any time soon. Any tips on the settings? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David.

  • @hansblooey - Hey Hans, can you please help an avid Green Day fan. I own every single piece of equipment in this video and have invested a lot of my time, energy, money and patience into putting this rig together. The only thing I haven't been able to get are the settings for Dookie and American Idiot songs, even though I have been doing research for 7 months (that's how long I've been waiting for Dave and Martin to mod my Marshalls and send them back). Any info would be great. Thank you, David.

  • @yutuubfreak can you send me those pics of the rig you were talking about earlier. i've been dying to find something related to the eq settings because i own the same exact rig BJA has in this video. it would be greatly appreciated.

  • do they use the Line 6 rack pod for anything or is it just there in case BJ comes along and says "hey i feel like using a different tone today"

  • so is the distortion coming from the cae or the marshal? also is one of the marshalls going into a dummy load and the other marshall powers it?.

  • which amp does the blues driver drive? the cae or the marshalls?

  • @Equestional The Marshalls, I believe

  • @Equestional marshall watts 100 and another word in it i forgot

  • @Equestional

the CAE is a marshall. its a SLP head with the CAE, or custom audio electronics, mod.

  • @greendayrokr actually the CAE is a preamp, not a marshall. its called the CAE +3 preamp. its the white 2 space unit with 3 channels, sounds awesome. the marshall mods were done by Golub.

  • thanks for the tip!

  • what bridge pick-up does billie joe in his guitar "blue"?

  • seymour duncan sh4-jb

  • wow all that is really confuseing

  • i only use an orange tiny terror to get their sound.....

  • so much gear.

    whatabout skills?

  • What are the Amp settings?(Treble,MIds,Bass, etc) and how were they modded?

  • i just saw some pictures of billies rig. its bigger and alittle different. im wondering if this is the new one or if the pics i saw were newer.

  • @yutuubfreak bigger how? i'd like to see which era of BJA rig you saw. there are 4 of these rigs in existence at the moment. these 2 stage rigs and 2 in the st. James' basement where the american idiot broadway musical is playing. anyone know how to attach pics onto a video response?

  • @hansblooey i can send you a link. i found out the big one is older because of the shure wirelesses are the older model. porb form the american idiot stadium tour.

    ill send you the link

  • @yutuubfreak Hey yutuubreak, can you send me the link, too?

  • it wont let me post a link in the comment so ill message it

  • @yutuubfreak Hi, please could you message it to me too? Thanks :)

  • @hansblooey the rig can be seen at the cae website under the legend section

  • I wish I knew what size speakers they use for recording. I'm love Billie's tone and am trying to decide between a 4x10 combo or a 2x12 combo.

  • @conkerjb09 2x12. a ten inch cone will never sound like a 12 inch. another characteristic of combo amps is the open back cabinet. you could try a mic in front and another in the back. might be too much phasing and cancellation to make it worth while though.

  • how is the se lead mode modded exactly? What preamp valves are being used ?

  • how is the se lead mode modded exactly? what sort of preamp valves are added ?

  • @Winkler96 Standard Marshall 1960B cabs, I believe.

  • @rjmmusic can you tell me in what consist the dookie mod?is been changed something in the circuit?

  • @clust90 I don't know exactly what is done, but it's an extensive modification of the amp's preamp for more gain.

  • @rjmmusic Does Billie Joe only use the blues drive for effects and then all the distortion is from the amps? Also does he use the same dookie mod for all his other songs or are there other mods because when he plays american idiot it sounds different and then when he plays dookie stuffs it sounds different and then when he plays 21st century breakdown it sounds different

  • @ZDALI14 The sound stays the same. It's the different guitars. The black junior for Idiot. "Blue" for the old stuff (Eflat). 21CBD is a double cut Special similar the BJA Junior WITH the same humbucking pickup that everyone bitches about.

  • @Winkler96 No, it's a 1959 SLP (the non-handwired version of the 1959 they made in the 90s and 2000s). A handwired could be modified in the same way though.

  • Jason has a beast rig

  • i dun think that the front speakers r just for esthetic...im sure they have some other function for like welcome to paradise, when he needs to use feedback on the amps, along wit the end of brain stew/intro of jaded when jason white uses feedback as well...explain?

  • i think the back ones will be miked quite low, to capture the tone and send it out through the p.a

but dont know about the others. i imagined they were to give the front rowers the on stage sound. not channeled through a speaker to their sides. :S

  • @1039SmthdOutSlpyHrs

    There are pedals for feedback...

  • thanks a lot rjmmusic!

  • thank you very much, but can i only get that distorsion with this specifically preamp? or can i get (a similar distorsion) with other type of preamp/pedal?

    Thanks!

  • @pedrosaura I think you'd be able to get that sound with a pedal - a more classic sounding overdrive or distortion pedal should be able to do it. Try a few at your local music store - it shouldn't be hard to accomplish.

  • Well 2 of the cabs pointing forward are plugged in. The guys wanted to feel some of the cabinet "thump". All of the cabs on stage are loaded. We consider them to be "spares" not decoration :) ill try and post a pic of the dookie settings.

  • @hansblooey Thanks, Hans, you rule. :)

  • @hansblooey that would be awesome. thanks for the info man!
