Why are people so offended? If you don't like the idea of a animal eating another animal... then don't fucking click on the video! Fucking simple! Plus, there are lots of videos out on discovery of snakes eating other animals, wolves hunting down and eating caribou... fucking grow up
I know this isn't meant to be really too enjoyable, but I'm used to this. I thought this was pretty amazing to see a fennec enjoying a little snack. I love fennec foxes, and it's so amazing to watch them whether it's gross and bloody (like killing fresh food) or cute and playful (like an owner keeping their pet happy). Thank YOU for posting it!
Thank you for uploading this video! Your little fennec is so adorable, and it's good to see her senses aren't being dulled by not being allowed to catch and kill live food.
It's pretty sad that people don't understand things like bugs and live rodents are a naturally part of the fennec diet in the wild, so it only fits to allow them to eat what they would be used to.
This is just a part of nature, even if little Keyah is in a domestic home.
to be honest, this is nature and it doesnt bother me, and this is how a fennec fox eats. Nobody can say that this is offensive or is for entertainment displays, its
Why are people so offended by this video? An animal has to eat! What do people think foxes eat in the wild? Live rodents! Plus, it can be hard to make sure pets get the enrichment that they would get in the wild, so feeding live food is another enrichment item to help make your pet's life more exciting. It helps give the pet fox a way to use its natural instincts. And in this vid, the fox is probably just playing a little with its food like a cat would.
My fennec fox always flips the mouse i give her all the time kills it first then plays whit it then comes over to me and eats the mouse right by me if i move she stops eating picks the mouse up and follows is that normal i thought they dont like to be near anyone when they eat?
So, according to about 60% of people who comment on animal videos on YouTube, I'm an evil person for feeding a friend's pet snake its natural prey. Gotcha.
Holy crap, lol. My farm cats didn't eat mice with the same dramatic prose as your fox! Do you have to feed him live prey? I've just never seen it done before (but I'm new to the concept of pet foxes, I must admit.) Looks very different but rewarding.
I personally don't mind people feeding their animals mice (when I had my snake I fed him live), but do bear in mind it would be better to feed her thawed mice rather than live. Unless you breed them yourself, you never know when the mouse could be carrying disease. Conditions in pet stores aren't exactly ideal. The mouse could also bite her and that could become infected. Just food for thought. Keyah is cute and you obviously take good care of her.
fennec foxes are my favorite animal!!XD but one question. what made you want to record it eating a mouse? no wait two. is that what they always eat? what's their food?
@Gemthehedgehog He recorded it to show people a fennecs aggresive behavior as he said in the description, and tame ones( please note i said tame NOT domesticated just to stop forum ragers before they respond :P) normally live on dog / cat food and have a mouse as a rare treat now and then.
thats so cool this dosnt freak me out at all i used to feed live feeder mice to my ball python after he stopped eating frozen mice my only question is were do you live that ur able to own a fennec fox? is he a pet of yours?
That was... shockingly clean and efficient. My cat would catch birds, let them lose inside, and watch as they died slowly. And then would always leave the head and intestines. Compared to a cat, this isn't aggressive or gory at all, and it really makes me feel better about people owning them as pets.
@demetriouscharles No. It's dangerous for her to let her roam the house unsupervised. She's too frail to sleep with. If you roll over on a Fennec you could crush it. Their bones are like bird bones.
The Fox is So Stinkin Cute!!! I Loved All The Sounds They Make. Your Video Isnt The Only One That Has There Fox Eating Live Prey. Not Sure Why Everyone On Here Doesnt Agree With Mother Nature.
While I was watching this I started to laugh a little cause in the background to the, newspaper, there was a girl like smiling! :D Love the fennec so cut! Getting on next year!
Anyone coming to this video should know what to expect from reading the title. If they come and then complain about it, it's as ignorant as the people who go to certain music videos to say "lulz this sux."
As sad as it is for the mouse, it would have probably just been eaten by something else if not by the fennec fox. They are (and I assume this one is anyhow) specially bred feeder mice.
omg shes super adorable =) was she making those noises because you were so close to her or does she make those all the time when shes eating? im looking into getting a fennec fox myself but i have to move out of cali before that can happen sadly. but that gives me lots of time to research! i especially liked the part where she rolled over for you! like a puppy lol
Hahaha the part when s/he started barking sort of made me think of a money at first and then my dog started barking at the laptop. I think its important to feed pets like this live food.

STFU and get off your stupid soap box, this is life! Animals eat! And if you don't like it, you were warned. So, please do all of the world and this responsible owner of his pet a favor and go suck PETA's dick somewhere else.
Hmm. I never knew Fennec foxes ate so cleanly. Barley any blood was spilled. I'm sure if it was a slightly bigger animal it would have been a bit more messy? No need to respond to this, i'm just questioning myself <3.
Lol I like how there's a newspaper add in the bottom right hand corner that reads 'gratification' as she's eating. When she starts making all that noise, is she being aggressive or is she just 'talking' to you?
My fennec fox got live mice too. He was a lot quieter about killing them though. Animals need the whole prey including hair, bone, tendon, gut contents, etc to keep their nutrition complete. Oddly, he refused to eat rats and made friends with them. He and his rats roamed the floor. They groomed him and chased his tail trying to tail surf on it. He was absolutely pathetic about begging for their attention.
I hear it's better to give em froozen mice cause live could get em sick and isn't that high picht suppose to be happy? xD Doesn't seem like it having food and someone bein close to it would make it happy. .lol
so Paulzilla, is one mouse of this size about equivalent to one meal for a fennec? is she not hungry after this mouse kicks the bucket? just trying to get a sense for the appetite of a fennec.
why the strange noises when she's running with it around the room and then eating? is it because she's enjoying it so much? i know it is domesticated, but still, it's kind of strange to me, i guess that they are not so loud in the wild, as it might draw more predators, right?
I had a snake many years ago. I was fascinated by the way it captured and devoured its prey. However, this cute little fox is much more exciting to observe.
Nutritionally, do they require live prey? I understand it may keep them in a more 'normal' frame of mind for the kind of animal it is, but can they be fed off of purely non-living(dead or cooked meats, vegetables) foods? I've been interested in foxes as pets for a few years now. I realize I'm 18 right now and I have no plans to attempt to find one for myself for several years yet, but it would be nice to have some information early to either continue my fancy or look elsewhere. Thank you!
You don't have to feed them live. Frozen is good too as long as it's raw. Cooked foods lose a lot of the nutrients. I give my fennec commercial cooked pet food for vitamins, etc. but supplement with live animals, insects and reptiles and raw fruits and veggies.
my mom likes to raise wild animals. the last one we had was an african serval, whom we would feed minnows in our bathtub. would a fennec take to the water?
Is it weird of me to think that her eating the mouse was cute? I mean not the whole gory gross mouse gets eaten thing, but just they way she reacted to it was hilarious, and at the end when she was laying down all happy and chattery after her little meal was ADORABLE!
I now LOVE FENNECS! Yes, I hate mice, have a wonderful cat -- a great mouser -- and would love a fennec too, but realize that it's not a pet for me. Still, Keyah rocks!!!
may , i ask why you have a fox as a pet? there was a family of 15 of them living in a pipe by my house . about 14 babies...I wld feed them canned dog food everyday ...tilll the mama took them somewhere else.I wouldnt want to keep them out of their habitat.
You won't find this fox in a pipe near your house unless you live in Africa. Feeding wild foxes is usually not a good idea unless you are experienced with that sort of thing. Fennecs make good pets simply because they are the most social breed of fox. I have one as a pet because I wanted one. I love her and wanted to give her a good home. She was born in captivity and needs to be in a home instead of the wild.
i have a fennec fox and 2 rats i like rodents so instead i feed him goldfish to make it fun for him i put em in a bowl full of water and he slaps at the water till he knocks a fish out i do this cuz i like rodents by the way why is she so chubby? no offense
I do have to say, this vid was interesting. Not the prettiest thing, however I was interested in it after seeing the first vid. She goes from vile predator to lovable pet in like two seconds at the end. lol.
Hahahahhaa. It sounded like she was really into her food. If you tried to grab it from her while she was happily munching on it, she would have bit you for sure. HAHA (: Very cute though.
Diverse diets are always great for pets, exotic or otherwise. I used to give my turantulas little mino like fish on rare occasions, some people give there larger species mouse pups but i never had the heart to do that.
When the little fellow thought someone was gonna steal her prize though, that was funny how catlike she behaved, only to be all nuzzly and roll over for a bellyrub afterwards XD
Why was he growling? o.o I'm curious were you touch while he was eating?(I'm pretty sure you wouldn't do that at all though XD) Or was it because you were like upclose videotaping him that he was just growling so he can protect his food? Or is it just because he does that all the time or that the mouse was moving?
Yes, she's growling and screeching as a combination of excitement of having one of her favorite treats, and also warning. Nobody's taking that mouse from her! Nooooobody!
Uhm, I have a question, if I would like to have a fennec fox, do I have to feed him with living animals or can I give him, just meat instead?
Thing is, I would really love to have one in the future, but I can´t do that what you´ve done here in the video. So, could I still have one even if I wouldn´t feed him with living things?
Wow, those are definitely REALLY different noises from the playing video. She's *really* loud. xD
Even though I always feel bad for the prey, I understand that these animals *need* it; I bet you got a lot of ironic comments about how keeping foxes is unnatural and cruel, but feeding it live mice is also cruel, as if they wouldn't eat even *more* live prey in the wild. *eyeroll*
That is so cute how she flops on her side afterwards. xD Maybe mice have a sedative effect like turkey.
Why are people so offended? If you don't like the idea of a animal eating another animal... then don't fucking click on the video! Fucking simple! Plus, there are lots of videos out on discovery of snakes eating other animals, wolves hunting down and eating caribou... fucking grow up

She could definitely eat more than one but you have to limit their intake as they can become overweight like any other pet.

is that the fox making the noise? it reminds me of abú from aladdin!
jnoey 2 years ago
why the strange noises when she's running with it around the room and then eating? is it because she's enjoying it so much? i know it is domesticated, but still, it's kind of strange to me, i guess that they are not so loud in the wild, as it might draw more predators, right?
nathanel1313 2 years ago
It's not domesticated. Domestication takes years of selective breeding. Fennecs make the same noises in the wild. It's just rare to hear them.
Paulzilla 2 years ago
Wow, amazing. Thanks for replying.
nathanel1313 2 years ago
Why is she making such loud noises as she eats? does she feel maybe someones gonna try to take the mouse away from her? x3

I had a snake many years ago. I was fascinated by the way it captured and devoured its prey. However, this cute little fox is much more exciting to observe.

MJGHavoc22 2 years ago
Nutritionally, do they require live prey? I understand it may keep them in a more 'normal' frame of mind for the kind of animal it is, but can they be fed off of purely non-living(dead or cooked meats, vegetables) foods? I've been interested in foxes as pets for a few years now. I realize I'm 18 right now and I have no plans to attempt to find one for myself for several years yet, but it would be nice to have some information early to either continue my fancy or look elsewhere. Thank you!
gladedreamer 2 years ago
You don't have to feed them live. Frozen is good too as long as it's raw. Cooked foods lose a lot of the nutrients. I give my fennec commercial cooked pet food for vitamins, etc. but supplement with live animals, insects and reptiles and raw fruits and veggies.

lol at the end i thought it was you coughing

my mom likes to raise wild animals. the last one we had was an african serval, whom we would feed minnows in our bathtub. would a fennec take to the water?
christiewhits 2 years ago
My fennec hates water. Doesn't like baths at all.
Paulzilla 2 years ago
i might get one. when do you feed her once a day or once a week or what please let me know
rbanderas49 2 years ago
Oh man.......your pet fennec is soooooooo cute. Do you happen to know any breeders in Western New York? If so please PM me.
Justinswaytotube 2 years ago
Is it weird of me to think that her eating the mouse was cute? I mean not the whole gory gross mouse gets eaten thing, but just they way she reacted to it was hilarious, and at the end when she was laying down all happy and chattery after her little meal was ADORABLE!

I now LOVE FENNECS! Yes, I hate mice, have a wonderful cat -- a great mouser -- and would love a fennec too, but realize that it's not a pet for me. Still, Keyah rocks!!!

I can't let her run loose outside without a fence. She is really fast and if she decided to run I would never be able to catch her.

may , i ask why you have a fox as a pet? there was a family of 15 of them living in a pipe by my house . about 14 babies...I wld feed them canned dog food everyday ...tilll the mama took them somewhere else.I wouldnt want to keep them out of their habitat.
coxgirl67 2 years ago
You won't find this fox in a pipe near your house unless you live in Africa. Feeding wild foxes is usually not a good idea unless you are experienced with that sort of thing. Fennecs make good pets simply because they are the most social breed of fox. I have one as a pet because I wanted one. I love her and wanted to give her a good home. She was born in captivity and needs to be in a home instead of the wild.

i have a fennec fox and 2 rats i like rodents so instead i feed him goldfish to make it fun for him i put em in a bowl full of water and he slaps at the water till he knocks a fish out i do this cuz i like rodents by the way why is she so chubby? no offense
rat2107 2 years ago
I feed mine goldfish too. She is spayed so she is a little heavier than some fennecs but she is well within normal weight range.

When the little fellow thought someone was gonna steal her prize though, that was funny how catlike she behaved, only to be all nuzzly and roll over for a bellyrub afterwards XD
reock123 2 years ago
haahah wait is that fox kinda like a little dog? And why does he make that noise did the mouse bite him or somthing or is he just excited?
niggabartlebee 2 years ago
No, she's a fox. A fennec, specifically, a subspecies of fox from the Sahara desert in Africa.
Jetman123 2 years ago
Why was he growling? o.o I'm curious were you touch while he was eating?(I'm pretty sure you wouldn't do that at all though XD) Or was it because you were like upclose videotaping him that he was just growling so he can protect his food? Or is it just because he does that all the time or that the mouse was moving?
ArianaMajek 2 years ago
It's explained in the previous comments. :)
Yes, she's growling and screeching as a combination of excitement of having one of her favorite treats, and also warning. Nobody's taking that mouse from her! Nooooobody!
Jetman123 2 years ago 3
Wow, she sure is a loud eater. Or maybe it's just the bathroom tile amplifying, I dunno.
FenristheRedWolf 2 years ago
Why cat food?
NorbPwn 2 years ago
Because cat food has more taurine.

Tobibrocki 3 years ago
You don't have to feed live. There are other alternatives but feeding live also provides stimulation for the fox as well as nutrition.
Paulzilla 3 years ago
Just a question how do you have time to take care of the animals you keep? Just curious :3
Sgofyyah13 3 years ago
It's not easy. I have to make the time.
Paulzilla 3 years ago
Wow, those are definitely REALLY different noises from the playing video. She's *really* loud. xD
Even though I always feel bad for the prey, I understand that these animals *need* it; I bet you got a lot of ironic comments about how keeping foxes is unnatural and cruel, but feeding it live mice is also cruel, as if they wouldn't eat even *more* live prey in the wild. *eyeroll*
That is so cute how she flops on her side afterwards. xD Maybe mice have a sedative effect like turkey.
