Mike, I've never seen anyone spell out the Basic Jazz Pattern as well as you have here. And I've been playing for 23yrs & have studied with drum guru Peter Magadini (among others.) Also, you've an excellent professional disposition to teach, IMO. Great job! :)
He says to play your Hi-Hat on two and four but when I count he's stepping on the triplets.. He should elaborate a little with the counts of the metronome and rhythm so that it wont confuse ppl.

I don't actually play the drums. I'm an electronic music guy and I program a drum machine, but I've been watching these videos and they're really giving me a lot of help with coming up with more natural beats, that sound more like drummers, and less like a guy with a computer. The 4-on-the-floor pattern is so played out, I can't take it anymore!
i have always been a rock an metal/punk drummer, im looking to study jazz drumming to open up my co-ordination,....iv never come up against such co-ordination difficulty as this ever!
jazz drumming realy is a wolf in sheeps clothing dude!
i've been messing around with some jazz exercises, and i've found so far that thinking of the entire beat in triplets helps with some more complicated stuff. anyone have some opinions on this?
Hi hat demonstration was a little too obvious

So where do you teach the feathering part?
I feel like you skipped that important part of the lesson.
