I like this game, but can't get it to play anywhere near this well on my old 2004 era computer. Do you need a supercomputer to play Dosbox? Terminal Velocity works okay.
@axecalibore Yeah you need a pretty fast CPU if you want to play 3D Games like this because the emulation seems to be very complex.
However, it is recommended to use the lowest resolution for 3D games. I also played Cybermage in 320x200? Don't know exactly what it was although I must admit the graphics get very pxelated at such low resolutions ;)
My favorite FPS when it came out. I still have the disc and the comic that came with it. I want to remake the game in a newer engine I know source, unreal and id's tech engine just gotta really plan it and figure out what one would be best suited for this game. I actually stumbled upon this video searching for overhead map shots to help with this purpose.
@necromx I would not recommend tryin to rebuild the maps from cybermage because some of them are really just blocky mazes. And some of them are so big that the minimap can't get you a good overview (also because of multi level areas.)
I would recommend watching a walkthrough of the game on YT or playing it yourself and then try to re-imagin/design the maps to fit them into newer standards.
And the UDK would be good because then it could be a standalone game. ;)
@NostalgicGames I've played the game a million times and that's what I was planning on doing but overheads of the originals help with getting the general proportion of the levels right. Yea when it came out it looked really good but by modern standards the maps are really simple and plain layout wise. The beginning for example i would make the caves more cave like instead of just square blocks looking like they were carved through a rock textures. Don't worry I know what I'm doing lol
If anyone wonders about the random weapon switching/firing and inventory/menu opening sometimes it has to do with a problem in dosbox. I had to cut the video into 5 parts and everytime I stop/start recording I have to push ctrl+alt+F5 and ctrl is for firing so yeah you see the result :P
im going to try to run it again on a k6-2 333mhz
and i knew about this game when it was announced a year before it came out
and i also remember it being the first game that i can remember that you could get inside vehicles in the air or land and shoot stuff...great fun
ya im a nerd and been playing pc games for about 23 years now lmao
oh and i do have a career and a family and did my military time also before i get flamed i had to put that out...

Now this makes me wonder as to the story of CyberMage with all of those robots saying "Only the strong deserve to live !"
