They have a ride in our theme park here in my state, NC That used to be called The Eastern Airlines Needle Ride. It takes you so many feet into the air and it goes around in circles and shows the park and the nearby city, Charlotte, they just call it the Needle Ride now.
Ahhh - only in the free world can you go from rooster to featherduster in a decade or in other worlds - only in the west can you go from 2nd biggest to bankrupt and take all your customers and employees with you overnight...
Did`nt they used to write "Whisperjet" on the tails of their noisy 727s? Hehehehe. My mum used to work for Eastern back in the 70ties, and they were all so proud of their "whisperjets" . :)
Wow....Sweet.....Enticing.....AWESOME....NICE DISNEY-LIKE MUSIC! Sweet.....@ 0:26-0:31 WAAAAAAAAAAAH! OMG! INCOMING AIRPLANE COMING AFTER YOU!!!! EEEK! GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!
hahaha that has to be one of the funniest comments ive ever seen on this type of video, a 747 coming out of the screen, now that would be something :D
I remember the little pilot's wings too! Only difference is, when I was little, I flew Piedmont Airlines. They also used to give out foam airliners you could put together and use as gliders! And they still served hot meals then too. Even in the eighties, commercial was so different than now.
Every ad like before 2000 said that "the are the largest or second or third or whatever! in the free world. Why? Are communist airlines more popular or what?
aeroflot was the largest carrier in the world during the cold war. Pan Am was second overall and first in the west (free world)... from a marketing standpoint 2nd sounds a lot better than 3rd
It's Orson (needing the money, as usual, lending his distinctive voice to a number of services and products during the '70s and '80s to sustain his extravagant lifestyle- he was usually "in the red"). Paul Frees was one of the few people who could deliver an accurate impression of him, but Eastern settled for the "genuine article".
SOMEONE REALLIZES THAT THE VOICE OF THIS COMMERCIAL IS OF ORSON WEELS

That was when Eastern, like many other airines, used the incomparable Boeing 747.

How I loved my trips and layovers in Mexico City and Acapulco. Eastern was the best airline to work for back in the day.

@guy666
Those were the days when a voice with character sold the product. These days slap happy personas do the selling.

Before the end of the Cold War, Aeroflot was the single, largest airline in the world.

Weren't Soviet military craft painted and included as "Aeroflot?" I imagine that would make the airline significantly larger.

In previous years, Eastern used Alexander Scourby's distinctive voice in their ads...
fromthesidelines 2 years ago
do you have any examples of the ads with Alexander Scourby?

The voice over is Paul Frees.

Ah, yes....Boris Badenoff from the old "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoons. Frees was a classic talent.
