This series was ground breaking. The only useless character on the series was Latka Gravis, played by Andy Kaufman. The only thing I ever enjoyed about Kaufman is when he wrestled and got his neck broken.
@fran9860 are you fucking retarded, he was one of the greatest parts of the show. kaufman was a fucking comedy genius, you really don't understand shit. jon from the first season was far more useless than latka, u just lost your privilege to comment on youtube, in fact, go kill urself, ill be glad when ur off the planet.
I always use Louie's line, "The boss had my butt for breakfast!" to this day, when my boss has indeed consumed mass quantities of my ass because she's a big fat lardo pig with the personality and face of a bulldog!
@stursey Yeah, playing a guy named Frank Reynolds. Before the series hit air, for some reason, I thought he would be playing the late ABC news anchor of the same name.
The actors deserve the greatest praise but also you must give the writers kudos for they were the comical genuises to come up w/ such funny material show after show after show .Real classica stuff & one of the many great comedies of the previous century.Hope to see more genuises in the future because no can seem to come up with some really good clean comedy.
Lord have Mercy, I will never forget this scene, I laughed so hard at those rolling down the steps noices, I almost suffocated. It must have taken forever to do this scene live.
I thought I had seen every episode of Taxi multiple times when Nick@Nite was running it, but I do not remember this!? Great stuff! Ignatowski is probably the greatest character in sit-com history.
True story, my dad swears that was his car horn, he recognizes it, he was honking at an old lady crossing the street on Ventura, a week later, he heard it on an episode of The Rockford Files.
Haha good to see this show, my father watched this every night before he went to bed. He commutes from jersey into New York. I remember being like 6 years old and the opening scene song is stuck in my memory forever.
We were so poor we only got one channel and that was NBC. Taxi wasn't moved from ABC to NBC until their last season, when I was about three years old or so. But even so, the theme song and opening credits are so distinct, I remember them too. Then when I was in my teens I rediscovered the show on Nick At Nite. They need to bring that show back to their schedule.
LOL!!!!! That ending was classic...boom boom..tata-tata-tata-tata.......boom boom tata-tata-tata-tata! LOL! It's really too bad they don't make shows like this anymore. Today's tv really sucks with all that idol singing, dancing "stars" and braindead "funny" home videos. Viva Taxi, Three's Company, Happy Days, Gilligan's Island, and many more older fun shows.
I used to watch this in re-runs, on WPIX-TV, New York, at 11:00 PM, then Carson, back in the 80s...wow, how time goes by, and how TV has changed...it used to be funny and clever. One time in New York I got in a taxi and I could not believe my eyes...the driver really looked and acted like Jim Ignatowski...he replied "Ehhh...I hear that a lot...what did you say????
Yeah, me too. I lived over there in the eighties. Letterman, then Carson. I can remember Dave when he had the sneakers, the blue blazer and used to throw himself at velcro walls. This was great too.

This music is bad ass! Who composed the show's incidental music?
oranjuly 1 year ago
@oranjuly Bob James did the theme song "Angela." He probably did the incidental music too.

all they had to do is run her name through the criminal and civil records and they could have worked out a deal.

It wouldn't have been a full episode if they had thought of that. Future as a situation comedy writer, huh? Not.

Listen to the car horn @ 0:13...that sound effect has been used in countless films and TV shows over the years and decades.
Just offhand, I've heard it in Hitchcock's "North by Northwest", among other places.
