This series was ground breaking. The only useless character on the series was Latka Gravis, played by Andy Kaufman. The only thing I ever enjoyed about Kaufman is when he wrestled and got his neck broken.

We were so poor we only got one channel and that was NBC. Taxi wasn't moved from ABC to NBC until their last season, when I was about three years old or so.  But even so, the theme song and opening credits are so distinct, I remember them too. Then when I was in my teens I rediscovered the show on Nick At Nite. They need to bring that show back to their schedule.

I used to watch this in re-runs, on WPIX-TV, New York, at 11:00 PM, then Carson, back in the 80s...wow, how time goes by, and how TV has changed...it used to be funny and clever. One time in New York I got in a taxi and I could not believe my eyes...the driver really looked and acted like Jim Ignatowski...he replied "Ehhh...I hear that a lot...what did you say????
