I am glad that you brought up the use of the SOM, the EAL, Rotary instrumentation, however, I was disappointed that you would even wear loops and use loops during an Endodontic procedures. Moreover, if you really believe that doing Endodontics takes minutes, in a single appointment, you are either fooling yourself, or your patients. It is rare that a molar tooth root canal SYSTEM can be cleaned, shaped, and obturated in a single appointment. That is NOT to say it is not done that way 80+% of t
@DeepFill86....Everything you talked about below can still be picked up from a pre- and post-op radiograph. I do not believe in exposing my patients to a bunch of radiation. This is why i typically do not take check films. If you need to take check films then please do so. I know many dentists that do, and many endodontists that do not. If an endodontist has the kno- how and expertice, there should NOT be a need to take multiple check films(increased radiation) like many residents do.
The apex locator does eliminate all check film X-rays during the procedure. Approximately 95% of cases in my practice are without taking "check" films. Before Apex locators were used many "check" film X-rays were taken during a root canal procedure. Please remember that even endodontic research shows us that Apex locators are significantly more accurate than taking check film X-rays when determining the length of canals. With all that said, 1pre- and 1post-operative film are still needed.
You show your lack of understanding of of how "check" films are used. WL (check)images are not used merely for working length determination. They are also used to monitor canal SYSTEM /root position, possible multiple canals/foramina, anastomoses and centeredness ( missed extra canal?) . All of this radiographic information is important for proper endodontic case assessment both before and during endodontic treatment.
