@chinglengvang Yes! - you always need backing regardless of what fish you are chasing!

1/ the backing helps increase the arbour of your reel (the diameter) so that your line is not tightly coiled against the center of the reel. By increasing the arbour, you also create a bigger diameter with which to reel in against. I.e the bigger the arbour the less turns it takes to reel in a given amount of line.

2/ Once day you are going to catch a big fish - you'll need that backing!

I have a question. I'm getting a fly pole soon but im not sure what size to get. It to be small enough to cath bass and trout on in lakes and rivers and some ponds but also big enough that i could take it out and catch the pink salmon that will be running soon, and maybe a steel head here and there. @kay0tee0em Hi, you're probably going to need two rods if you're going to chase Bass and large steelies and Salmon. My best advice would be talk to someone knowledgeable at your local fly shop

@kay0tee0em Hi, I live in the Northwest and fish for all those species you mentioned. You should really get an 8wt..I have caught steelies,Chum salmon up to 26 lbs, Humpies galore and Bass as well with my Loomis 8 wt..Hope this helps..

@kay0tee0em I'll answer that for ya. You can pretty much fish most water with a 5/6 rig with a wide arbor reel. This would only exclude Steelhead over say 5-7 lbs. or so and small, streams and lakes choked with brush. It's a good beginners rig for that reason, it gets you in on most of the action. When you become more discerning and decide you like one species over another, you can be more specific. Have a Blast!! and Good Luck!! Oh, and don't call it a "fly pole."

How many frames per sec are the parts with the casting of the fly. i like how you see every movement of the line and very nice shots in there, Never knew they also feed on the mice. I was never rly into fly fishing untill i saw this dvd, planned a vacation to denmark to flyfish this summer.
