  • Good info

  • great info!

  • Hey Jimmy quick ? Is there such thing as eating to much fat? I am eating on average about 168.5g fat per day which is about 67%. Protien is 149g at about 28% and carbs are at 32.5g at 5%. Are these good levels to be at? Please let me know your thoughts.. thanks

  • Nope, but there is such a thing as too much protein. And while your fat and carbs are in a good position, you really need to back off a bit on the protein to get it down closer to 20% of total calories.

If you'll recall from this video and the one we did on gluconeogenesis, excess protein turns into sugar in the body through the liver. Moderating your protein intake keeps this from happening and you replace the protein with more fat.

Keep your carbs where they are and add more fat. :)

  • Jimmy thanks for this video. Man have I ever missed some great information since the last time I had my home computer. It's amazing what one can miss in just a few weeks. I may fall under the too much protein or not enough fat intake. This past month I lost 25 lbs. but I felt like I didnt' because I stopped walking and I feel lazy....Have a great one..

  • Small tweaks can make a BIG difference!

  • Also, why not recommend healthy fats, such as Extra virgin Olive oil, as opposed to butter??

  • Fat, coconut oil, lard and all sorts of saturated fats are extremely healthy for you when you are limiting your carbohydrate intake. EVOO is overrated.

  • Please explain how they are healthy when you eat low carb, but unhealthy if you aren't eating low carb.

  • Sure, although I never said they were "unhealthy" ever. But when you mix in carbohydrates with fat, that's a dangerous combination for your heart health because of the carbs. That's why restricting your carb intake is critical because fat becomes passive in the absence of carbs. When you introduce carbs, they lead your weight and health down a path of self-destruction. The only fats to avoid are trans fats.

  • If you are only doing house chores and not losing weight for a long period of time, it is something other then muscle growth. You can not gain that much muscle by just simply doing house chores..

  • THANKS for your comments. We never claimed muscle growth alone would stall your weight, but it can be a contributing factor. I appreciate your feedback!

  • Another great video guys. Christine looks wonderful....ok, you both do. Keep up the great work!!

  • THANKS so much for watching! :)

  • Hi, Jimmy!

It´s good to help people to see what is stopping them.

If somebody looses weight and it suddenly stops it might be because of melting fat from the belly which releases all the stored poison in it. Additional vitamin C and lots of water can take care of that poison. Dr. Atkins wrote about it. I don´t know, I think it was the book "vita-nutrient solution - your complete guide to natural health!"

  • How about a video on easy ways to get more fat and calories in the diet, especially when one is on the run all day? This evening I thought about what I ate during an exceptionally busy day, and it was a salad with romaine, black olives, tuna, LOTS of mayo for lunch and a chicken breast with mayo for dinner. That's not anywhere near enough, but because I don't get very hungry on low carb, and because I am busy quite a lot these days, I know my body has to be hanging on to weight for dear life.

  • The best way to get calories up is to get fat up. The best way to get fat up is to eat full-fat meats and cheeses, heavy cream, butter, nuts, coconut oil...anything with fat which acts as fuel for your body in the absence of carbs. We've hit on this many times in our videos.

  • YES U CAN GET THE MONITORS FREE...but those dang strips are EXPENSIVE...do got Dr to give me prescription for them...life is good...well it will be when get this dang 25 lbs back off. had to buy new pants for summer..and not the smaller type...gesh

Hopefully i can stay off the Motrin and now that i know i was over kill on protein and needed to add more fats...i hope my week gets better.

  • We'll talk about that in our video. :D It's only UP from here!

  • We also have 'THE FOOD INDUSTRY "NEW MATH"' since there is no rules for what a net carb is there are some products that are making it up as they go...i now test my blood sugar if i suspect something has funky math...

CRUNCH CRUNCH...ME EATING MY MIXED NUTS...5 CARBS...4 FIBER...PLANTERS HEALTY HEART MIX.

  • That's a SMART thing to do. We'll be doing a video soon on blood sugar monitors and why EVERYONE (not just diabetics) needs to have one.

  • OMG...u r a life saver...I was just whinning again today that i am not losing weight that i gainned this winter ..which i didnt know why i gainned...i have been a low carber for many years..so what happen..

NASIDS...AND TOO MUCH PROTIEN...so now i can figure it out and see if i cant get things moving...again...sure would hate to put that 200 lbs back on.

Thanks guy...watch that pain killler...those are buggers to get off...I KNOW.

Give kitties a hug for me.

    Kski

  • Happy to be there for you Kski! :D

  • This is true, so VERY true!

  • Happy to be there for you anytime Kski! :D

  • Hey Jimmy, you forgot the most important reason =) Not actually knowing what low carb is and trying to wing it.

  • Luv your videos. Today is day 1 for me the hardest day i think..I'll be watching.

  • Yes, Day 1 SUCKS the most, but push through it. This is the WORST it will be for you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

  • well lost 1o pounds in 2 weeks since we spoke last but this past few days scale doesn"t seem to be movin.

i eat eggs made in butter.

    romiane lettuce salads.

    beef

chicken breast and lots of water

supplements include multi vit. and fish oil.

    is this decent pace

  • Weight loss isn't constant...you'll have ebb and flow. Looking at your sample menu, I'd say you're doing pretty well. Feel free to add some extra non-starchy veggies and even more fat.

  • Thanx Bro! You r help is great.

May you go from strength to strength!

    Bless you!

  • Happy to help anytime! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

  • So if one was to eat mainly salmon, eggs and Chicken brest you feel there could be issues. what would you do to add fat.

  • Possibly. Add fats like butter, coconut oil, cream, full-fat cheese, lard, and nuts...this should get your started.

  • I really enjoy these web shows. Thanks for the great information!

  • Happy to hear you like them! THANK YOU for watching.

  • I am older than Christine and been doing low carb for 5 years. I did find out that going through menopause has actually messed me up. I have had to combine low carb and I have had to watch my calories too. Now I am not discrediting what you have said in the past but I couldn't drop any weight until I dropped my calorie as well as combining low carb. Now I am not talking a starvation diet but just watching what I eat.I had gained about 15 pounds and doing this the scales finally moved for me.

  • What calorie level do you eat now, Skeeter? I would contend it is still within a healthy range for you. :)

  • Probably less than you might think I should. But I am very short only 4 ft 11. I eat about 1000 a day sometimes a bit more or a bit less depending on my hunger level. But always close to 1000.

  • Well, that's probably equivalent to about 2300 calories for somebody like me who is 6'3" tall. :D

  • Well thank you for not jumping my case. I have reached pretty much my goal weight again and tonight I splurged and ate about 1/2 cup dream fields pasta topped with a spag meat sauce from Ragu light and mozzarella cheese melted over it. Being menopausal isn't very much fun.

  • Glad I don't have to deal with it! :P

  • In a round about way you will. Your married. LOL!

  • Tis' true, tis' true. Now why did you have to go and REMIND me about it. :D :D :D

  • The sky is falling on me!!! Jimmy, you're such a dork! (But we like you anyway. :-) )

I've been eating a little bit of peanut butter! I thought it was okay... guess there goes that one.

Another one you didn't mention is coffee & alcohol. (Both that seems I'm going to have to cut out... not happy about that!)

Thanks for the video... a reminder that I certainly needed.

  • Once a dork, always a dork, proud to be a dork! :D

Yes, coffee and alcohol are culprits too and perhaps we should do another video with 7 MORE Reasons Why You May Not Be Losing Weight.

  • Lifting 4 days a week? Hopefully that means you are doing splits. 4 days a week of lifting can be dangerous if you don't do it correctly. Lifting is important, but you can actually injure your body badly if you don't get the recovery time in. You probably know all this, but for some of the folks who don't. The recovery period is where your muscles and strength actually grow.

  • You are EXACTLY right. Overexercise is a trap so many people fall into and they don't give their body time to grow muscle during recovery.

  • I do about 60 minutes of cardio 6 days a week and it is moderate to high intensity. I also lift for 60 minutes four days a week. I actually listen to your podcasts when I'm lifting :) So far I don't feel worn out. I fear that if I cut back I'll stop.

  • As long as it's working for you, DO IT! But be aware of adrenal fatigue and listen to your body if you are worn out.

  • Good video. The one thing I would add that can stall you out is not getting enough sleep. It's very important to get enough sleep.

  • Right! Again, this was not a comprehensive video on every possible reason why you are not losing or even gaining, but it was some of the more common ones. We thought about mentioning the sleep issue since so much research is coming out about that right now. GREAT ONE, dmgm01!

  • Great info! Lookin' buff Christine! :) I've been getting between 75-95 grams of protein a day. Is that too much? Not that I've had a problem, its just that the weight loss is VERY slow

  • It depends on your individual needs based on a lot of factors, rachiebaby24, so I don't know for sure if that's too much. Based on a 2,000 calories/day diet, your protein intake is around 15-19% which would be in that "moderate" range you want. But my suspicion is you are consuming less calories, maybe 1600-1700 and you're probably getting too much protein. Back off on the protein and replace it with fat to see what happens with your weight loss. You'll figure this thing out! :)

  • Excellent video as always guys!!

I fell yet again from the LC Lifestyle and just climbing back on after just under 2 weeks :(

  • It's okay to fall but the key is to get right back up again and DO IT for life this time! NEVER GIVE UP or GIVE IN!

  • Your Right!!!

At least I caught it within the two weeks and realise the need to continue LC. I watched the videos I made while in full swing and I am so much happier and determined in them.

I can kick myself for thinking the grass was greener on the other side lol.

Never mind, a minor set back!!

    Thanks as always

  • Minor indeed!

  • One last thing!

I plan to do 30min of cardio on the bike per day, in time I may add in a little weight training.

In your opinion, would this be ok for health and steady weight loss.

  • GREAT QUESTION! From all the people I've interviewed about weight loss and exercise, most of them say cardio is pretty much useless for bringing about the fat loss desired. That's why I talked about resistance training and high intensive interval training instead. It's not the quantity of the physical activity you get, but the quality. Make it count and it will count for you! :)

  • Fantastic and thanks!!!!!

I am away to read up on HIIT

  • I think it will help your efforts TREMENDOUSLY!

  • In my view, 30 mins is fine. I actually do 25 minutes. The only question I have is are you doing intervals on the bike? If you are doing steady state cardio for 30 minutes you really aren't getting much out of it. If you can add some intervals, (riding faster, big hills, etc..) it would be more worthwhile.

  • Ah there is where I am going wrong, I'm doing a steady 30 mins (was 40mins but I have cut back)

Fantastic information and thanks for that!!

  • Just one other thing and then I won't comment any more. I just noticed you said you were doing the cardio everyday. I do cardio twice a week and it's only high intensity interval. Don't try and do High Intensity Interval everyday.

  • No, I don't do cardio everyday. I'm aware of HIIT and incorporate it into my fitness schedule. These days I play competitive volleyball twice a week which gives me quite a workout with all the running, jumping, and such that makes it a fabulous workout. THANKS!

  • Thanks Jimmy and Christine... that was great info... I found that in addition to all of those that you mentioned... is not drinking enough Water to eliminate the fat burn... I wanted to ask what the "Induction" Fat to Protien to Carb ratios % should be... Then also the OWL ratios % should be... thank you for your direction. I am starting Atkins again !!! and want to make sure I was getting the correct ratios in me diet... thank you... Best regards, SLIM QUEST :)

  • THANK YOU SlimQuest! This is by no means an exhaustive list of reasons why you may not be losing weight, but a lack of water is certainly a part of that.

On your question about ratios, I wouldn't worry about micromanaging your low-carb lifestyle like that. Just eat a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb diet and your ratios for fat/protein/carbohydrates should be around 75/20/5 during Induction and maybe 65/20/15 in OWL for most people. But customize YOUR plan to fit YOUR individual needs.

  • Hey you two, thanks for this video. it really helps in understanding. Take care

  • It's our pleasure! :D

  • An excellent installment, may help my husband out. Except he doesn't care for the videos too much... maybe I'll get him to read the blurb...

  • Are we too goofy for your hubby? Sorry, we like to have fun! :D

  • No.. It is the high pitch sounds. It bothers his ears. Like with the "see ya'" and sometimes other things. He has trouble with really high sopranos as well. Same problem as my dad.

  • Hmmmm, I've been tweaking the sound lately to improve the levels so they're not distorted...probably wouldn't help with this issue. :(

  • No.. but no biggie. I watch and listen and then I pass along the information.. It really is too important and too useful for both of us. And I enjoy the videos. Otherwise, when I first found them I would not have spent hours going through them! :-)

  • THANKS so much for your support! We REALLY appreciate it. :D

  • THANKS Caprice! What's funny is we KNOW these things, but when we see a 2-pound gain on the scale it just freaks us out, right? Thank you for your super kind comments and Christine is gorgeous ALL THE TIME to me. :D Of course, I'm biased, too. :)

  • Thank you for this video, I really needed to be reminded/informed on these points.

I must tell you both...I LOVE YOU GUYS! and Christine, you look really pretty today!!!

    Have a great week!

    hugs,

    Caprice
