I don't speak Afrikaans, but I hear the word "Boer" used frequently in this song. Growing up, I was always told "They're not Boers, they're Afrikaners" as though "Boer" was somewhat demeaning.
Is this one of those words that change context depending upon who is using it?

@Anekantavad Boer is the Afrikaans for farmer. This song refers to the Boer War, where the Afrikaaners' army consisted of just farmers. Some people try to use the word Boer in a demeaning sense from time to time, to call Afrikaaners it. Although it isn't much of an insult. As most Afrikaaners that are not farmers will just look at you like you're a little bit mental instead.

I have a question, is there still hope for the boers in Africa? I have searched and read about South Africa for a long time now because i was thinking on emigrating there. But all i read is there is nothing else there but broken dreams, a broken people that are said to be ashamed to be what they were once so proud of. Then so too would English not be a "real language" either because it too was once just an Anglo-Saxon dialect before its speakers locked themselves away on an island for hundreds of years & started to speak English. Afrikaans is a distinct language as it grew out of the contact between the diverse cultures dumped at the Cape by the VOC & has European / Asian & African roots. Nothing is more scary than the vilification of an entire ethnic group.
