  • Miguel-

You sir, are Squire-rific. I just found your channel- I love it! Thank You for all of the fine work- I really enjoy it.

  • @troutster70 Thank you very much. It's a joy to be able to share my clips!

  • You sound GREAT, sir! Can you tell me what equipment you used to record this video? It looks and sounds so clear.

  • @Basseroni1 Thank you. I used just an old creamware Luna II soundboard and a Sansamp bass driver DI

  • Omg I'm soooooo jealous that was awesome what a fantastic bass line from my hero chris squire, you did him proud my friend I wish I was half as good as you.

  • @SuperDeano1974 Thank you very much. Don't worry, just keep enjoying your playing, that's the most important thing!

  • Damn those are some tasty jams.

  • @taylib90 belated thanks for watching!

  • That guitar/bass riffing is plenty proof Yes didn't "dumb down" during the 80's.

  • @eddievhfan1984 Back then I only knew "owner" and nothing more.... I thing this song was way ahead of that time IMO.

  • sounds pretty sweet

  • @TmasterREY Thanks :)

  • That jazz bass really does sound like a 70s Rick, more than other Jazz basses if I say so myself.

  • @CorvetteCoonass Yes it can sound very Rick-like. Other example is Greg Lake's J-bass at "pictures in exhibition" live concert. Thanks for writing.

  • @miguelbass Hell, to an extent, wasn't the J-bass created to complement the Jaguar/Jazzmaster and directly compete with the 4001?

  • What year is that Jazz? Looks and sounds killer!

  • @iloverush123 Hi - the last time I tried to track it's year I got 71-73. It's still from the light weight ones.

  • Nice clean bass. Ohh awesome for mixing !!! Lovin' it !

  • @robertsutter Thanks you! Glad you like it!

  • Your bass sounds sexy!!! Great playing too

  • @drumsticks135 Thank you very much!!

  • Excelente, loco...saludos desde el sur de Argentina saludos Fabian

  • @lagocardiel No sul da Argentina!? Cumprimentos ao Cruzeiro do Sul! Gracias, Fabian!

  • thanks to you im thinkin of pullin out my 85 percission and jammin to yes!

  • My pleasure! Next step... jam it on YouTube? :) Thanks!

  • In fact, forgot to say, the graphics in your post are also excellent, they are really most evocative of 90125 and those times . . . . ;-)

  • They are made from the album cover :)) I just used some very zoomed portions a bit to make it more less direct ;)

  • Absolutely BLINDING Miguel, can't put into words how good this made me feel, took me back to school where I 'bunked off' to "go and get the Yes tickets" for Wembley, not dreaming I'd be right up front and making eye contact with the lads, one of the best gigs of my life, sharing these memories now thru your post and all the official videos with my lovely new girlfriend even tho we are a bit older, thank you so much! In fact we saw Yes at Hammersmith a few weeks ago . BLOODY GOOD WORK MATE !!!!

  • Thank you very much for sharing the good memories my friend! I Saw Yes in Hammersmith too, but that was in 98 and 2001 :))

  • Toledo...? Yea 84-85 rocked.

The chicks were cool too. Now they are either young or drama queens.

Screw you Toledo 40 and 50 something women. Thanks for nothing. You difficult non partying bitches.

  • Wow... now there's an original story/comment :) Thanks for sharing your memories!

  • very nice! do you remember the settings on the bass driver? it would be so helping!! =)

  • oops I really don't! But I will soon put up my basic settings for my sound on my site's FAQ. Hope it will help! Merry xmas!

  • Great job! Nice green screen effects too.

  • Thanks for being here! Hope you like the rest of the clips!

  • No flag... it's a green screen. The artwork is mixed on the video software. Thanks!

  • kick kick kick kick kick

  • Great song, great line, great sound, great player: BRAVO!

  • by far the best song on 90125

  • I also have some more favourites like It Can Happen or Cinema. Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you so much Alessio. Now you *do* play incredibly good!

  • Nice playing :)

  • A great great honour for me :) Thank you so much for your input & all the best to circa: from Miguel's HQ ;)

  • put it this way...if chris squire pops his clogs they will call you, incredible bass..

  • I'm really surprised this song isn't better known. I think it's pretty amazing. Proggy and complex, but catchy as hell.

  • fantastic...

where you take the bass line of this song ??

    uuuuuuaaaaaa

    i can't play intro !!!

  • I take it all by ear, don't worry you'll get there too, just practice :)

  • Bravo my friend! Thank you for the excellent presentation. Please keep them coming!!

  • thank you my friend, i will!

  • Great playing Miguel AGAIN!!! I love the Ric 4001/4003 but that Fender Jazz sound very nice for this tune, just like Squire and Geddy Lee you obtain great sound from the Jazz bass :-)

  • thanks Guy. It's cool to change once in a while. I use my other basses whenever there is a non-RIC song.

  • Well Maestro, in your hands any bass will sound good!!!

Thanks again for posting this song. The bass line on this song is so amazing melodic and happy.

  • Very cool bassline, unexpectedly enjoyable (because I haven't heard much of that album). Rock on Miguel!

  • Gracias Alex. It has it's good moments, but I understand you should prefer other material, especially with Steve Howe.

  • Keep rocking miguel!

  • Great performance!

I can't stop listen from 3:49 min to the end (including 4:01 min).

  • i loved it

  • Thanks!!

  • That just gave me chills. AWESOME JOB to a terrific song.

  • Hello Steve, thank you very much! It's indeed terrific ;)

Bjinhos!

  • I like what you wrote above in more info. Well, you know how to treat the music - good and rightly, with respect. Good work.

    Regards,

    alienavelar

  • * * * * *

  • A national treasure!

  • Happy Birthday to Chris Squire! 61 years old today 3-4-09...

  • Here's to "Our Chris"!! :)

  • Superb playing as ever. I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of Yes stuff after (and including) 90125. All went a bit 'twee' for me. This bassline is an example of that for me. CS trying his best to put something interesting over what (I think) is essentially a pop song.

Hope this isn't where you and I fall out Miguel. :)

  • Hi Steve, I recognize the change that occourred on music and that reflected on Yes too. Maybe because I was started on Yes already on the late 80's, I accepted all that was before - easier - and I didn't suffer the "shock" of all those 80's line-up transitions... Being a bassist and Chris being on all of those incarnations, I agree that made it simple for me. That doesn't forbid me to have most and least favourite songs... even some songs that I only listen to because it *is* Yes :))

  • Fair enough Miguel. I'm definitely one of those sticks in the mud that (usually) prefers earlier stuff. This seems to apply to just about every band I've been into (Yes, Rush, The Who, Genesis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Faith No More & Miles Davis). You may also notice that I tend to prefer bands with great bass players. I do like some of the later Yes material but I don't love it. My brother does though as does a couple of my mates so I'm in a minority around here.

  • Always a pleasure to wach you Miguel. Excellant!

  • Thanks Josh!

  • Miguel,esti cool frate!te asteptam pe la noi,curind sper!

  • mulţumesc mult Johnny. Pe curând atunci, sper şi eu. Salutari pentru voi

  • Hi Miguel, I'd forgotten just how hot this bassline is....typical CS! It's nice to see you "in front" of the band...very smooth! I remember your audio version of Tempus Fugit...it smoked! Would sure love to see you perform it here!?!

  • Hello Bruce, I will get to Tempus Fugit yes. I remember back on the audio file I used this same bass. Thanks for writing!

  • Superb as always. I like the mix, I like hearing your playing out in front like this. Obviously you could tuck it into the mix and make it hard to distinguish from the original but if I wanted that I'd go watch a Yes video. I like being bowled over by your playing.

  • Hi Phil, there is a fine line, i guess. If i make it too loud it can disguise notes that I play differently simply because the original bassline can't be heard anymore. I'm trying to find the correct balance so that my bass tone is well distinguished and you can still enjoy the original track. That is important too because there are some visitors on my channel that were actually started on Yes through my clips and that's cool too! Thanks as always for your thoughtful comments.

  • great job!

  • Hey, thanks for watching!

  • Wow! Amazing bass, amazing bass tone and bassline!

  • Did you hear the bassline before? I think this one really shines, considering all changes that the 80's brought to Yes... there are always great bass moments on this album. Cheers

  • Yeah this bassline really does. its quite good.

  • i bet chris would've like having this bass for this song, it sounds awesome!!

  • Apparently it was the T-Bird, I thought the J-Bass sounded cool, glad you agree!

  • Miguel!!!!

You're the most talanted!! me gusta mucho

  • Muito obrigado & spasibo bolshoe ;)

  • Absoulety Wounderful. Your a great talent. Always enjoy your posts and Iv been a Yes fan since the 70s. Seen them only once in 78 in Kansas City. Keep em coming.

  • Lucky you - '78 must have been on of the best tours ever... thanks for being here.

  • Damn Good bass guitar playing Miguel,I'm sure Chris would dig it...Rock on dude!............

  • Thanks trooper!

  • hey Miguel, do you ever play without a pick? You lose some staccato, but you gain a smooth fluidity. Keep playing, amigo, from Mustapha, the scythe of god.

  • Hi Mustapha! For the bass covers, my point is to recreate the original bassline playing, so it's not a preference of mine, it's supposedly played with the same original technique. However for my personal playing, I use pick, fingers, even used the funk fingers, it depends of what I think applies to the song (John Deacon, is a master on this). However I use the pick most of the times (not always) I guess because of my influences. On my "Svatba" video I played one of the lines with fingers. Thanks!

  • Now that's some serious bass guitar. Pure genius. Thank you so much for all your hard work and posting this. Always a pleasure to hear you play. Very inspiring.

  • Always welcome "scary"! Was a pleasure to make the bassline cover for you to listen to.Thanks!

  • what a beast

  • Thanks :) It's an early 70's Jazz Bass

  • I give up, Miguel!

Your playing is too awesome for me, man!

    Love the Jazz Bass!!!

  • Hey Robert! I thought it sounded really nice, the strings are approaching 1 year old (Parallels clip) and they still sound very good! Ah yes and it looks really cool along with the primary colours from the 90125 cover. Thanks again my friend!

  • Great job Miguel !

And for the video too ! Those flashy colors bring more dynamic !

    Encore !

  • Thank you very much Jo!

  • Hi! Chris' T-Bird II (non reverse) is such a cool bass, And yes it was used at least on that tour, you can see one clip at my favourites section, pity they are so rare! Thanks!

  • Amazing,as ever.

  • thank you Paul!

  • WOW

Miguel, you're all over the neck on that one! I was surprised to see the Fender, was there a reason not to choose the Rick?

  • I looked on the internet but no one knows for sure the bass used on this song. It's not the rick to my ears. I figured it could be the Jazz Bass but anyway it was the bass I have that allowed me to approach that particular sound. Thanks :)

  • Sounds great Miguel...really cool how you got the YES album logo progected! How did you do that?

    ***** -O__O-

  • Hi Bob. I used an off-the-shelf effect called chroma-key. You will find info about it even here on YT. I used a similar effect on the Run With The Fox video. Then I tweaked some parameters here and there. Thanks for being here again!

  • Excelente! Só tenho uma pergunta, tu arranjas pautas ou é tudo de ouvido?

    Prabens pelo video :D

  • Obrigado :) Eu tiro as linhas todas de ouvido, depois claro que as tenho de praticar :)) Abraço

  • Dude, once again (as always) you nailed it. Thank you for sharing with us!

  • Music has magic, and you have a lot of it!! Thanks for a great YES cover once again.

  • Thanks Guy!

  • Mais uma maravilha deste fantástico Miguel.

I never get tired of beholding his work.

    P-A-R-A-B-É-N-S!!!

  • Obrigado amigo, um grande abraço!

  • Normally Yes's newer stuff, i like, but not as much. However, this song in particular has really grown on me. And who knew the bass part so complex! (don't answer that)

Thanks again Miguel, and I hope there's more to come!

  • Hopefully will be more. My pleasure :) Thanks for being here again.

  • Nice cover like always. :)

  • thanks :)
