Oh man, I freakin love this jam! I bump this on my way to wednesday night bible study! Me and my homies like to roll the windows down and scream out bible versus at random ppl passing by lolz, John Reuben is the definition of hard.
This album was when he was in him prime. Every album he has made after this has gotten progressively worse (Although I did like hindsight but it was still not nearly as a good as Are We there Yet).
@Bemersd actually, Jesus was a real man. Mixing rap and religion is just another way to praise God, so I really don't think that it is dumb. Many people do believe in Jesus and His salvation as well, I would wonder if you had heard/understood the message because if you had I wouldn't think that you would be saying this (:
@PeachyBoyForChrist LOL...I have no idea. Or maybe it was to attract those viewers seeking fleshly things to listen to this and be enlightened. Then again...who knows...
I actually met john rueben in a concert at my church! He rocks! thinks he is a awesom and when i say awesome i mean AWESOME! christian rapper! lol! love you john! keep rocking and rappin!
I must disagree, KJ 52 is decent enough and I actually got one of those (LP?)'s he released but John Reuben is more my type. He may not rap so much but his message comes on more then words and a looping beat. Not all wrong (Big respect for Mars Ill, T Bone, Red Cloud, ect) but John's better with word play and feeding people "Brain Food". It comes down to your preference. Just my 2 cents. Peace
You know, I wasn't all that impressed with this song, but he was a Christian hiphop and I just wanted an alternative to Enimem, but now I listen to this and find it good both lyrically and meaningful. His raps got better the older I got.
I'm not trying to be pro-east coast underground or anything, but when you compare the lyrics of today's Christian hip-hop to stuff from 2000, we've steered away from great poetics and hard-hitting messages and more towards banging beats with a shallow message (actually that's hip-hop in general). That DJ Premier sound with turn-tablism and lyrics like John's are the definition of great Christian hip-hop. If only flavour like this was still common today, cuz it ain't old skool.
Haha mann what a good video, John Reuben knew how to keep it old school better than any other christian artist i know of. Even in his music today he keeps it old school. D.C. Talk, Newsboys, Pillar, P.O.D., Skillet, and a few others had some of the best old school music, but it's just not the same any more :-(
Ah of course you can never forget KJ-52 one of my favorites. My dad and I really like the song plain white rapper in a plain white minivan. The words are hilarious. My dad is not a fan of rap at all but he likes how plain white rapper debunks the rapper stereotype.
ok the vid was a bit cheesy but i get the message the song brings. the last like minute though was sad 'cause in so countries though u can not do "what u do when u rock" (in other words share ur faith w/ other ppl)i love though the vibe the song gives off- u can't tell me t be quiet so u just betta get used to what ya hear- type of thing ya know?
I luv this song. It has a good message. But i dont get da music vid...Can someone tell me? My fave part is " do not tell me wut i can and cannot do when i rock"
sigh... i wish reuben would get back to his roots. i miss the old stuff. his first 2 albums were his best, in my opinion. pro rapper was good but you could hear the transition to that more electric sound. then he threw that annoying buzzy synth in every song on boy vs the cynic... which i think had its moments... word of mouth was a little better... i just really hope his new album is more like hindsight. i really really miss that old school style.
well i know hes his own person but a goofy white christian rapper? its been done before that being said im not saying i dont like him i just think its kinda repetitive BUT the only thing that matters is that there both christian and love God and wanna Live for him so all this ranting im doing is pointless haha.
man i used to love this album. i saw him in concert and from ther eit was on. i havnt been followin him since after this album so i might have to again. this song is alot sicker now that im 20/ haha
"I create for the creator but not to impress you" I love that attidude he has. its just great. His lyrics really challenge people to take a look at themselves and figure out what they are living for and who they are really trying to impress. When it comes down to it the only one worth impressing is God.
Ha. And people say that Christian music,R&B/rap sucks. This is the perfect song that shows it's just as good as any other rap music out there. Because today, there are many rap artists that can't even rap clean..which to me, is pretty hilarious.
The video is in the workds of John Reuben himself "an icecream man that want's to perform so bad he startes breaking down perfoming in front of kids who don't care."
as for a clearer meaning of the songs read the words and it makes sence.
ScienceGeekJesusFreak The song is about a guy who is desperate to preform and rap about God on stage, noone books him so since he wants to rap so badly he starts rapping in front of kids who clearly don't care and just wants their Ice Cream :). I like this song
I hope you meant the VIDEO is about that. Cause obviously the song is about people who have all allowed themselves to be stereotyped into a mold and he wants people to break free of tradition but remain respectful and loving human beings...
