  • Who are the 24 knuckleheads who don't like this.....greatest classic country song ever....

  • This man had "soul" as did his music! Just ask Ray Charles!

  • Quality sound!

  • Just heard the Joe Brown version, but this one is truly the BEST!!!!

  • One of the best...

  • This is a beautiful song :)!

  • Logging in from Wellington, New Zealand. This is one of my all time favourites. Thanks for the post.

  • said it once before... say it again.... totally ... EPIC

  • only don can do this song

  • He also recorded a 'country' version of this song. Also great!

  • Masterpieces are impossible to explain.

  • You can find music like this nowdays! True country right here.

  • @clcowboy2004 Sorry to say this was not true traditional Country Music but its successor

The Nashville Sound, but it did work very well. As for Don Gibson, his roots were firmly planted in Country Music but, being a survivor, he evolved. Excellently.

  • bomm bomm bomm ....=)

  • <3

  • one of my favorite songs by Don Gibson. --- thanks for sharing

  • lost love is there any emotion more heartbreakingly human? just rips my heart apart a sign we re alive!!!

  • the song is bigger than the voice, but together they make the Great Pyramid look tiny. Love this song so much but can't find any logical explanation.

  • OOOOOHHH! He's just sent me into a trance! Don Gibson--Mr Magic!

  • Best recording of this song, ever, and I've heard most of the others, regards trev

  • BOM BOM BOM. love it

  • one of the best.

  • One of the best in country music ! :-)

  • Don didn't write this one but he was certainly one of the very best combination singer-songwriters of the 20th century.

  • The best of the best of country music.

  • great song!!!!!

  • if I'm not mistaken, my hero Chet produced Don Gibson. One thing Chet did recognize was a great voice and writing, and mixing that bass drum more in front, that was cool. A good song is a good song is a good song.

  • I could just listen to this song on repeat for days.

    It's just that good.

  • Un très bon chanteur que Don Gibson. Très belle musique aussi, qui nous rappelle de bons souvenirs .

    Bravo pour ce choix musical.

    Merci, Ghislaine

  • My Don Gibson CD is always engaged when I'm driving! Thats why I always love getting on the road and driving wherever!

  • bom,bom,bom.

  • CLASSIC! The base "intrusion" (right on time), has always given this song a greater depth than it would have otherwise had. LOL, at age 65, I remember when it first came out. Good times, bad times

  • @OkiAlumni agree, as a kid I would giggle my ass off every time my mom would imitate the bass singer in this...what a great song...

  • When you go back and listen to music like this it brings tears to your eyes, not only because the music is so good, but because all the modern music sucks so much compared to this.

  • @knearhood8 Yep... You got that right. I may be an old fart, but this brings back my 16 years full of piss and vinegar. As a porfessional musician, seems that today people have shit in their ears !

  • Great, takes me back.Mr Lillie also loves this

  • 19 people have broken ears. My ears work perfectly well and I hear the greatness in this song.

  • Im 63 herd all kinds of music this is the best

  • Great Song,One of my all time favorites!

  • great

  • I love these old country songs and that isn't right for a 17 year old...

  • @RandRacing1 Enjoy your music like this from Don Gibson - always melody

  • I remember my dad listening to this song in the UK.Because of that I have an appreciation for some of those older style country music songs.

  • Ah yes! 1957 all over again, sing it now Don.

  • A GREAT SONG BUT I THINK SONGS ABOUT THE SEA SHOULD BE LEFT TO SAILORS AND FISHERMEN

  • @BRICKHARRELL007 This song is not about the sea, it's about the heartbreak of losing some one, the sea is just a metaphor ......

    lol

  • this has got to be the best version ever!!

  • Don Gibson--You are up there with the best of them! You made beautiful music and I dont think enough people have had the chance to appreciate it Not over here in the UK anyway!

  • I love this song.. :) Story of my life lol lol :)

  • that sounds like johnny cash doing the boom boom boom part haha

  • it would bring a tear to a glass eye! why is it all the great go first

  • Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BEST MUSIC IN THE WHOLE WORLD......

  • Always think of Heartbreak Ridge when I hear this.

  • Great song, and opening song from Clint Eastwood's Heartbreak Ridge....ooo rahh !!!!

  • Always a favorite.....great cross over from C&W to Top 40.

  • No one, now how, no way, could ever sing this song the way Don Gibson does.

  • @inthemidstofnow Listen to Robert Gordon's version of this tune..... close, very close to Don's rendition.

  • Amazing ! How you can mix such a cheerful backgound with the upbeat piano and women singers to a sad man suffering. Brillient!

  • and 1,579 do

  • i love this song m hobbs 65

  • I remember buying his album when it first came out!

  • WOW!

    Fantastic singer,great song.

  • I never tire of hearing Don Gibson sing this song, beautiful Music!!!

  • the original, and by far the best version :)

  • Love this guy. Incredible songwriter, great guitar player and carried on the long and proud tradition of C&W pill poppers. Not much of a country fan but Gibson transcends genres like Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family -- hell, too many to mention. Maybe I'm a country fan after all. I definitely would be if they were all as cool and talented as Gibson.

  • nineteen people have no idea what great music is

  • @brendated commenting on likes and dislikes is boring, not original

    and pointless.

Can you enjoy a song without caring if anyone else likes the song or

    dislikes it?

  • @brendated You are so RIGHT ..

  • @brendated I don't believe 19 people don't like this - one micreant posting 19 times.

  • @brendated You can say that again so true ..

  • what a voice! what a song!!

  • agreed i love this song! great songs always have great meaning!

    ryme and reason!

  • @11humboldt now 20 don't know great music when they hear it!!!!!!!

  • great song....at the end he looks like steven seagal

  • Beautiful, beautiful song.

  • @Inkysdad - It was WEBB PIERCE, who built that guitar-shaped swimming pool, not Don Gibson.

  • Just fantastic...!! TY...

  • This IS by Don Gibson

  • Still gives me goosebumps. What a song!

  • Heard Nick 13 sing this live, and I loved it! Original, even better! <3

  • Now this is country as country should be!!

  • i have trouble not crying when hearing this in heartbreak ridge

  • @thisisyourgrandma Love Heartbreak Ridge...

  • Jim Reeves NEVER sang this song....get it right palonejr

  • This is Don gibson period. Jim Reeves never recorded this song .

  • Oh yes it's Don Gibson.

  • ...and he's a Mormon.

  • love this song, my dad remembers Korea whenever he hears it

  • I'm a Danish die hard Clint Eastwood fan. Saw Heartbreak Ridge for the third time on tv and simply had to hear this song again. What a film and what a song -from two great men. God bless.

  • What a great song, love live Don Gibson!

  • Awesome.

  • Gibson has the perfect voice for this song. No one sings this song like he does.

  • This is the voice of a real man. Oh that they would sing like this today.

  • I love this song! I wish that I could met this singer! I wish that I was younger!!

  • Wish he would have sang Wayon Jennings's Don't Think Twice song. It would fit his voice perfectly. Love me some Don! Bom! Bom! Bom!

  • Oh how I love this song, makes events of my chilhood come flooding back. There is only one word for my thoughts ....Nostalgia(sentimental yearning for a period of the past )

  • Yes...I recall listening to this song when it was brand new and thinking of a particular girl with a longing that made my stomach queasy. One listen and it all comes back to me 50 years later.

  • boom boom boom, great track

  • Mr. Gibson re-recorded this in the Sixties and as good as this version is, the re-record is even better! But, this is, as always, a wonderful listen. Thanks for posting it and continuing to promote the memory of a fine entertainer!

  • Man they had great back-up singers in the '50's and '60's didn't they?

  • Such a beautiful song and a brilliant voice:)

  • Don Gibson was so handsome! He appears to be a Native American, does anyone know if he was? He has such beautiful facial features, very strong and handsome. Anyway, he also made some of the best country music of our time! Still enjoy and appreciate listening after all these years!

  • Great song , great singer, so simple so easy, what more could you want, love Johnny Cash version also, Bom Bom Bom

  • what A great memory!

  • ...god bless you don

  • Don Gibson was a great singer.

My parents liked him and I do now.

    *****stars

  • THe BEST I EVER HEARD WOW!!!! <3

  • love it, Heartbreak Ridge is playing tonite in Texas~~~

  • My 2nd all time favorite song. I don't have a favorite!!

  • As I said to Hillbilly; I am proud we shared the same ancestors. My Grandmother and his father were siblings. 3rd cousin I think.......And yes . It is Shelby's son......

  • Don Gibson: Genius. To have had a voice like that and to have wrote all those fantastic songs. My late brother and I would sometimes sing the Everly`s version, in harmony, key of G with the drop down chord of F. This would be in the early 60s. Cant believe it`s over 50 years since I first heard this song. Still gets to my heart and soul, even after all this time.

  • DON GIBSON HAD THE HIT RECORD

  • Greatest version of a great song. I wonder if it was sort of a "reply song" so "Sea of Love" which came out a year or two earlier.

  • Wow. Never heard of him before, even though he wrote important songs recorded by Ray Charles and Neil Young. Fantastic. Now I'll have to see "Heartbreak Ridge."

  • Sea of Heartbreak is a song written by Paul Hampton and Hal David and recorded by Don Gibson in 1961. The song has been covered by other artists a number of times, including Johnny Cash. It has also been featured in several movies, among them the Heartbreak Ridge starring Clint Eastwood

  • I have no idea what Heartbreak Ridge is, but I've always loved this song, grew up with it...with or without some person or movie making it famous...good song no matter what!

  • I love this song. Perfect song for the movie Heartbreak Ridge.

  • One of the best

  • Love it,always have,always will,brings back a flood of good memories. (MrCountrynut)

  • Great video & song, Thank you for sharing

  • Nothing like Jim Reeves.

  • THIS FOOL NEEDSA GET LAID

  • not like but LOVE without a doubt THE greatest country song ever sung by a man!!! no disrespect meant to all the brilliant country singers but this song has never been equalled much less surpassed!!! it is a heartbreaker!!!

  • this song is a absolute classic.....thay just don't write 'em like this any more!

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung, and that sexy line - 'come here to me'... Don Gibson is a treasured memory in my heart. xxx

  • 17 people...ahh never mind. Great song.

  • What can I say - my dad had the original 1961 record, loved it when I was a kid, love it now.

  • i am solid gone

  • Great voice

  • don gibson awesome. RIP my friend.

  • I dont care what you say , country music just aint the same as it once was , this was country music !

  • wearing out the replay!!!

  • simply the GREATEST country song by a male ever! no disrespect to Hank or anyone else; however to repeat this is the #1 of all time!!!

  • According to Wikipedia, this song was recorded in 1961, yet in the film "Heartbreak Ridge" they show footage from the Korean War while the song plays in the intro to the film. Almost 10 years apart chronologically, but somehow it fits beautifully. Clint Eastwood is a genious.

  • One of those rare things: a perfect rendition of a classic song! Don Gibson was one of the great singers!

  • One of the true great classic artists with a gem of a song. I really miss hearing these sort of songs on radio, all we get today is downright rubbish from so called singers, what a joke, they couldn't lick the boots of yesterdays performers, who would stand in front of the mike and just sing, without having to wear obscene outfits to distract people from their lack of talent.

  • Jim Reeves did sing another Gibson song, "I Can't Stop Loving You," and described it as the "greatest song ever written."

  • Talk about being taken back 50 years in a time warp. Great song.

  • This was the single that really put Don Gibson over the top. Probably one of the most expressive vocal performances ever recorded. It didn't hurt to have Chet Atkins playing gut-string lead on this record, either.

  • cool as cubes

  • A great song !!! took a 60 year old bloke back to his childhood... Fantastic Voice

  • A great song I had not heard for years to a 60 year old back to his childhood

    Fantastic

  • what tone deaf 17 oafs could dislike the most life enhancing country song ever sung? well I fall to pieces could tie Mr Gibson!

  • @nfsfilms this song was also in clay pigeons. Eddie spaghetti does a great cover. Hot track suckers!

  • This is so great.

  • Don Gibson filled my Teen years with Romance the young ladies back then liked Don `s Music Alott . If they liked it sooooo did I !

  • What a great singer!! Too bad nothing this good is being done today.

  • the most brilliant country song EVER sung by a man(i fall to pieces the female first).Timeless and heart breaking this is humanity revealed.did they know all those years ago that then was country s most moving had been recorded? just hit the rewind button for hours!!!

  • I remember before Heartbreak Ridge, when this song could barley reach 1, 000 views, now it's halfway to a million views. The whole world owes a debt to Clint Eastwood for ensuring this song won't be forgotten and lost forever like so many other beautiful classics we'll never be able to hear.

  • @nfsfilms correct me if I'm wrong here, but a film from almost 20 years ago ... kinda predates this video on youtube. Am I missing something?

  • @nfsfilms I didn't think many people watched Heartbreak Ridge. It's my favorite movie.

  • @nfsfilms you're kidding right?

Heartbreak Ridge came out in 86 so This song had like 0 hits before the movie cuz youtube wasn't even around.....

  • @nfsfilms dude no offense im pretty sure heartbreak ridge came long before youtube lol

  • @nfsfilms WTF are you talking about with that "before Heartbreak Ridge" comment? You do know that the movie came out in 1986, don't you?

  • love this song,

  • i love the "BUMPBUMPBUMP" it makes me happy :)

  • BRILLIANT SONG

  • extreme talent very rare now or not allowed to shine

  • Great singer. great song,

  • Saw him in LONDON he was great R I P Thomas Haverstock

  • Brilliant song by Mr. Gibson. I have the CD to prove it. Everyone I have introduced this to loves it.

  • Don Gibson, definately, unmistakenly.

  • I love the way he did this song, no one else could do it better.

  • Don Gibson----so good!
