Why can't people just enjoy the movie ? Oh that's right, we must understand its meaning first.. I remember it as a damn good western..been cool if their were 4 goods guys waiting in the town and one bad guy getting off the train..Wouldn't have been a movie then...
This movie irrespective of the time period in which it was made is a metaphor against tyranny and one of its worst aspects in american society was Macathyism and the utter fear and distrust it speard in its wake. And as in the film only a few brave people were prepared to challenge it at the time knowing that they will face dreadful challenges on the way to freedom.
I like this Movie because he Will Kane as played by Gary Cooper had show bravery, and a willingness to face men trying to kill him.True he was techinecally no longer the town Marshal, but he still feels that it is his duty to face those criminals. That is what I personally admire in any Human Being. The only thing that I hated about this Movie is the outright cowarddice of the Towns people. With three exceptions: a young man,a town drunk, and Kane's wife who at the last moment runs to his side.
Esta película y su protagonista siempre ha representado para mí, lo que es un hombre consciente de su deber, justo y valiente. Gracias por esta enseñanza.
I understand this was "just a movie". However, the script and the characters portray exactly the way of the world...evil is recognized by the masses but no one has the guts to confront it and stand up to it. Every once in a while someone comes along to do just that and the world pretty much hangs them out to dry. Ah, yes, the writer of this story knew it well...
@ilonloc01 I agree with you,i can't imagine what JW meant by that comment,i have three favourite western's (and he is not in any of them);Gunfight at the OK Corral,The Big Country and this classic one.
I read that Gary Cooper was suffering acid reflux and gas due to an ulcer and this accounts for his constant swallows and gulp's which look like anxiety to us.
One of the most famous American songs ever written was composed by a Russian -- Dmitry Tiomkin. BTW, Irving Berlin with his "God Bless America" and other patriotic/holiday songs, was also born in Russia. life is fool or strange things :)
My late father used to play this song on his guitar and sing along. I think he sang it better than Frankie, but I'm a little biased. Enjoyed this video, thanks so much!
I must say nelbrewster that behind every good man is a better woman. At 70 it has finally dawned on me that it is so. I will never tell Barbara of course but I suspect she knows. Fabulous show, brilliant acting and what a poignant song. I first saw this as a teen and only again recently - same as The Man who shot Liberty Vallance. I caught up with that again. Warmest to you Graham Melb Aus
Spoiler Alert, Cooper's character did not fight the gang alone. His wife saved his life by killing the guy about to shoot him by shooting him in the back.
Frankie Lane! The singer of the Love Theme to Blazing Saddles!!!
Mel Brooks said his liner notes for the singer indicated he should be "a Frankie Lane type." He was, of course, thrilled to get Frankie Lane himself :)
god bless you dad ..loved hearing you sing this in the olde legion in rhyl..a proud chairman an a bloody lovely gent.missss you every day love you dad xx
Not Tex Ritter but it works. In fact, I could make out all of the lyrics and I don't think I could do that with Tex' version. Photos are HD sharp and well selected. Stills have power that video doesn't. WELL DONE!!
@pook1711 pook? you've gotta be kidding me. that's what my dad used to call me, i hated that. pooky. well anyway, good video, i love trains, gary cooper and that black haired girl. was high noon a series, or just a movie. and didn't the funny chinese guy, and the blond haired guy (also in night at the museum) in a movie called high noon?
Danke!!!!
"High Noon" is my pick as the greatest Western of all time. The casting was superb. By the way, Grace Kelly was an attractive lady, but I want someone to convince me that there has been a more beautiful actress than Katy Jurado.
Gary Cooper was not scared. He did not want to create a mess in the town. It were the people of the town that were afraid...too afraid including Lloyd Bridges. At the end, Gary Cooper fought alone and won.
Lee Van Cleef was given a role without any dialogues since he could not talk well on screen at that time.
@RealMusicKing Are you kidding me? He did not did NOT fight alone. Had his wife not shot Ben in the back, he would have died. Geez. A little detail often left out!
Gary Cooper. Wow! Super actor.......I always thought he was the perfect hero in High Noon---a man who was scared of what was coming, but was too good of a man not to do the right thing, no matter how frightening it was.
@Khamug is right that this is not the original sound track from the movie. But if you will forgive me I think this is a better version than Tex Ritter. That voice sound like Frankie Lane to me and he also made more than one version as did several other artists.
A good cover of this song....thanks for posting it... I am inspired by pogue34's list to share my own list of fave Westerns: 1) The Shootist 2) High Noon 3) The Mountain Men (Heston & Keith) 4) Big Jake 5) The Searchers 6) Judge Roy Bean (Paul Newman) 7) Three Godfathers 8) the first part of The Cowboys, especially where John Wayne's character confronts Bruce Dern's 9) How the West Was Won X) Old Gringo (Gregory Peck)
My personal Westerns are as follows 1. True Grit 2. Young Guns 3. Wild Bunch 4. High Non 5. Django the bastard 6. Magnificent 7 7. 3:10 to Yuma 8. The Searchers 9. The Good The Bad and The Ugly 10. Once Upon a Time in the West
i think also that the trilogy of sergio leone should be on the first place, especially The good, the bad and the ugly. Then also Last train from gun hill, Rio Bravo...an d the Karl May western(especially for the actors, not for the directing itself). I'm curious to see rawhide...any remarks about it???please...
The Classic Westerns would have to be: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly/High Noon The Magnificent Seven/Shane Gunfight At The O.K Corral Once Apon A Time In The West Rio Bravo/Rawhide (Tyrone Power 1950) Jesse James/Man Of The West Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence Vera Cruz/A Fistful Of Dollars For A Few Dollars More/El Dorado
No way! 1. The Searchers 2. Stagecoach 3. High Noon 4. True Grit 5. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 6. 3:10 to Yuma (the good version with Glenn Ford, not the crappy remake) 7. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 8. 3:10 to Yuma 9. El Dorado 10. The Cowboys OR maybe Unforgiven
Great job by Frankie Laine;only Tex Ritter did it better.1)Once Upon a Time in the West 2)The Good, the Bad and the Ugly3)High Noon 4)The Magnificent Seven 5)Red River 6)Rio Bravo 7)Nevada Smith 8)Hombre 9)Sons of Katie Elder 10)She wore a Yellow Ribbon
In my opinion and in no particular order the greatest westerns ever filmed were High Noon,True Grit,Once Upon A Time In The West,Unforgiven & Tombstone.
