@jogmas12 the plot is actually based on ideas on opposite spectrum of international relations theory (neorealism). Balance of power theory, security dilemma', ect. Basically, the state make decisions on based upon fear because no state can be 100% certain the intentions of other states. Of course there is more to it than that
@joanoliver1953tcd743 This is true... I remember the local station blocking the scenes of the Thetan(alien)... at the same time in Ohio (northeastern OH) somewhere ,the U.S. Air Force was flying aircraft above during that summer which produced 'sonic booms'. At exactly the same time I remember catching a glimpse of the alien and (from above)BOOOM!...BOOOM!.. i ran to bury my head in the couch and got a bloody nose....true story. I love The Outer Limits to this day
FYI: just posted a 4-part "The Outer Limits documentary" with interviews from William Shatner, Harlan Ellison, Robert Culp, et al. Check it out if interested.
I love how they just let anyone walk aroung the top secret laboratory where all the rooms are left unlocked.
Also, the ending was kind of anti-climactic; I wanted to see the humans react to the alien.
Kudos to the producers of this episode, however; this might be the earliest example I've seen of a movie or TV show featuring a black professional, albeit in a tiny non-speaking role.
One of the most fascinating things, for me, about watching old episodes of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits is noticing how they have influenced other things I've seen. This episode, clearly inspired Alan Moore's comic book Watchmen (the movie left the alien invasion part out). I also have to believe the people who wrote District Nine were influenced by this episode. If it weren't for these programs, modern day Sci-Fi stuff would be much different.
"Why is she empathetic to his pain? Twice when he feels pain, she feels it."
...I got the idea that he developed some kind of telepathic or psychic powers during the hormonal treatment. Evette was pregnant with his kid so she might have made a connection between them.
i am i great fan of the outer limits!...since 9 years old! i can still suspend modern judgment and still sink in to them! here is a thought i had after watching this again at 56....knowing he was the youngest man, what if everyones torn paper read...alan leighton?!! cue..entrance shock music!
...That's a pretty bold statement. It's arguable that The Twilight Zone was the greatest of any type of series ever. I don't know why they could never do it again, all those "New" TZ and OL shows just fell flat.
Although I did really like the 80s horror shows - like Monsters, The Hitcher and Tales from the Darkside - that were popular when I was a kid in the 80s.
Poor Geraldine Brooks. In the first season she's married to Robert Culp, who mutates into a space alien. In the second season she's married to William Shatner, who mutates into a space alien. This lady has no luck with men at all!
Supposedly this is currently being done by the US Govt.------ Do research on "programmed life forms" or PLFs. And look for a false-flag alien invasion in the future for an excuse to put more weapons in outer space.
@skeletonbite americans have been conditioned over many years to become slaves to government, to the point where they arent even able to recognize their loss of liberty.. there was once a time when men would rather die than submit to the rule of other men, yet now, most men are shocked if you dont want a democratically elected leader...very sad... most people are now completely brainwashed into believing that we cannot exist without government ruling over us
"most people are now completely brainwashed into believing that we cannot exist without government ruling over us"
...What kind and size of government is best is a real debate but just because someone recognizes the need for some form of government doesn't mean they are brainwashed or want to live under authoritarian rule. The Fouding Fathers limited the size of the fed government but they were still the ones who created it.
@jimbrown257 ill just say that no free man is ruled by other men.. i harm nobody, yet i am governed as if im a slave.. they require licenses and permits for everything under the sun, they force me to hand over the products of my labor, pay them tribute for property i own, tell me what plant im allowed to smoke, what my kids will be taught, and this list could go on and on.. and on... but why bother.. if these examples dont show enslavement, i dont know what will
Robert Culp is always good! I was happy to find the video of the pilot for his wonderful series with Bill Cosby, I Spy, at You Tube.
I also found the I Spy reunion of them with their kids on a mission that kept getting bungled (maybe YouTube? maybe not?), but it was too stupid and silly, only a pale shadow of their former great chemistry. Whoever wrote the rotten script should have had their head examined, but it was still good to see them together and reminisce.
I believe that a common enemy gets people to work together. It happened to me at work. A person I didn't get along with ended up having the same enemy as me, our boss and we ended up uniting and getting that person removed to another position. Then we became friends. Strange I know.
This monster in this episode was so scary that some ABC-affiliate stations blacked out the monster's face during the last act. Some other ABC stations decided not to show this episode until 11:00 pm
@huskyjerk : Agreed. Back then, the monster was probably really scary. Especially to little kids, but these days, it's funny to look at. Cool story it was though, and XD @ them thinking world peace was gonna happen all of a sudden just because there was an alien that they had to kill.
@Notebookwriter1 I think I saw this at the timed that it originally aired and I did not see the horror of it all. The creature seemed more lovable than frightening. It is kind of "cartoonish" in its appearance.
Creepy, nightmarish aliens and monsters... great stories... an eerie music score and top acting talent! The "Outer Limits" is the stuff of classic sci-fi blockbusters on the small screen! Many a night, I went to bed after watching these otherworldly horrors invade my living room in the 1960's.... and couldn't shut my eyes for fear of what may have been lurking in the shadows at the far end of my bedroom! Today, I own this complete series on DVD! Classic TV at its BEST!
Thank You, I shan't go into the incedible importance of Sci-Fi and the conseqeent influence it has on all FREE-THINKING readers AND VIEWERS of well written sci-fi, from 40 yrs ago or from last week-you have done the public a SERVICE...THANK YOU!!! Luv's n Kisses-call me

they are trying to create fear to solve the world's problem. Sounds like another liberal idea bound for failure.
