@cacoethes138 yeah, of course nothing materialises out of nowhere, this is a thing called inspiration, very true. Two years on: older? wiser? maybe. Here i can answer my own, aformentioned question with the answer: Fish, from Marillion =)
What she read-all heady books, she'd sit and prophesy; it took a tatooed boy from Birkenhead to really, really open her eyes.----You gotta love those lyrics!
the best version of this song is the one of the "rank" live album,,its blistering ,,it follow the opening track the queen is dead, which is also the best version of that song, kind advice..
Morrisseys voice has been with me for over 20 years and it sounds like to me he is suffering from a cold during this lol I could be wrong but more than likely, can you hear it? I love you Morrissey, always and forever :*
'how come someone hasnt noticed that im dead? and decided to bury me, god knows im ready.' - moz has got to be the best lyricist ever, if anyone thinks theres better please reply cos i want to know why a person can be so deluded! lol 'ps. if theres a tatooed boy from birkenhead, get in touch aswell...haha'
@wasagoodkid I was a true fan of this song from the very beginning, and everytime I hear the lyrics I notice they were abou ME and of course, I needed a tattoed man from Birmigham (in counterpart of the boy from Birkenhead) to really really open my eyes...
this is my favorite smiths song. I love how hopelessly sad and depressing morrissey is. Hes sad that hes so different from everyone else but at the same time embraces it because he doesnt want to be like the people around him.
I understand how you'd see that with the very beginning riff right? But I personally dont think anything else sounds the same. Johnny Marr has alot of funky riffs in different songs that are like this but not so much like blondie. Or atleast not intentionally.
@someonenoticeimdead Hmm, Marr did sometimes nick riffs from other artists (and put them in a total different context), and he liked Blondie a lot! So it could easily be.
PS: I now see that this comment is two years old, oh well..
this song is pure smiths. deeply morbid with despair. morrissey injects it , however with energy and passion to appear as if there is hope. such a classic.
To pick a favorite Smiths song is impossible.
