No he is 13-14 years old (we think). He is absolutely a very spoiled teenager (human years).

We estimate his age to be between 13-14 years old. We were told he was one when we got him and we have had him for 12 years.

Woooooooooooooooow!!!! That may seem old, but I looked up their lifespan on Google and it said 50 to 70 years!!! I'm glad Tongo's going to live that long! :D

I have two greys and they are the sweetest ever. Theyre still young, less than a year old each and our girl, Jemoke is the princess in the house. So far she whistles and says "you" in her sweet voice meaning I love you.

Weve got 12 parrots in all (including our glorious scarlets) and I cant say how lovely it is to have them. I wish you the Best of Luck with Tongo!

When Rico starts to speak more clearly there will be an explosion of words. It took Tongo a few months to start talking because we adopted him out of an abusive home. But after he learned his first phrase his vocabulary grew daily. You will see, It is amazing.

My bf and I just got our grey back. Poor Oscar got mentally abused. I found out that Oscar wasn't allowed outside the cage for a year or more. Now Oscar is staying with me. He still doesn't trust human very much. Only sometimes he wants me to pet him. Still refuses to come out the cage. He had poor diet (got couple of pink feather). Oscar also lost some feathers :( Seeing your video made me even more determine to turn Oscar around :)

Tongo had been abused as well. Do not overwhelm Oscar as he is not used to too much attention. Leave him in a quieter room and visit with him often for a week or two. Leave a radio on. Also speak softly to him.

I showed Oscar Tongo videos, he calms down alot before bed. Possibly because Tongo showed such confident with happy tones, Oscar instantly picked that up. I thank Tongo for Oscar :)

Oscar is doing better today. He finally played with his toy yesterday in his free time. He also finally took his bath like he used to in his water bowl. He was still cautious how would react that he splashed water every where. I guess he didn't expect I would praise him for taking his bath. He calmed down from there. I've just made a video of him playing with his toy. I had to take the video from a far or he would freak out. The video should be up soon. :)

I know what you mean about video cameras. The way we got Tongo used to it was we set ours up on a tripod and left it there. After a few days he got used to it and it does not scare him.

We adopted Tongo when he was around 2 years old. He is now about 13. We were never told his hatch date so we celebrate his bird-day in December.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering because my family just got a little girl grey in May. Right now she can only say "hello" but she seems quite smart and can do about a dozen other tricks on command. I hope she becomes as talkative as Tongo is! (My favorite video is the one where Tongo announces his poo-poo and then puffs and whistles a cat call. Classic!)

Keep working with her. Greys are the best. We love our parrots, we used to tell people about Tongo all the time but he would clam up around strangers. So we decided to tape him. The advent of youtube is our way of showing people how incredible a Grey can be. They are so cool and they have a sense of humor. Enjoy your girl, when they start talking things kind of explode. We used to write down all of Tongo's words and phrases but lost count at 400.

I am from Brazil. I have 2 Amazon Blue Head Parrots. The female talks more than the male.

But they are not inside the house, they live in a cage (fair size for both).
