if you dont know anything about transformers then you dont understand the g1 series go read war within those are the real transformers the movies have absolutly nothing to do with transformers.
This was without doubt a complete and utter turd of a movie. The Japanese must be laughing themselves to tears. Go and watch a real Anime/Manga Mech move like Patlabor or Macross Frontier for a truly great Robot/Mech film. Bay should never work in movies again.
On a related topic of CGI and Sci-Fi flims, I just went to see a film called District 9. Just came out the other day over here in America. (Oh wait, I keep thinking you're still in Japan!) You're back in SD. You might've seen it already then. But if you haven't, I'd recommend it. I did NOT love this movie. But it was worth the $12.50 admission I paid. It was different. Amazing effects. Highly enjoyable. A bit too heavy on the political overtones, but it had a message. Go check it out soon.
Completely awful movie. Every character except for Optimus Prime, the Decepticons and Megan Fox were comic relief. About at the part where they were in the jungle I was wanting to walk out. I thought maybe something cool would happen at the end so I stayed. Nope. Nothing. Just a boring, dumb, and depending on your thoughts on the gold-toothed minstrel characters, completely irredeemable.
I won't watch another Bay film unless I read the reviews first again. What expensive trash.
funny thing is that all the autobots have colored armored and the deceptions are their black, grey or brown. the only difference is that devastator is colored.
i totally agree with you on your review.. i was in denial after i finished watching the film because i thought... look.. it's transformers.. it HAS to be good.. but seriously the film was really disappointing, overly long, lacked plot, was too cliche.. and despite me watching it in imax.. the sound system was complete crap which lowered my enjoyment of the film....
i agree with your review. i don't know what happened to part 2. i saw it last night and i had a small headache from all of the explosion sounds and drawn out robot fights. didn't like it too much.

Cool - I'm glad you liked it. I agree that movie fans should see the first movie before seeing the sequel. But my guess is that many millions of people that watched the first movie never saw the cartoon. And in the 2nd movie, they introduce a bunch of new Transformers who are never given names or screen time to develop their character - so yes, it was tough to tell them apart some times. This same point has been brought up in many reviews of the film I've read online.
i think the reason you didnt understand anything was simply because you just dont get into movies at all...if you seriously couldnt tell which was which then you need to look at movies another way. Transformers was great i loved it. it had like 1 or 2 flaws but thats it
that's an interesting opinion. I have about 19 vlogs on this channel talking about movies and DVDs I like, so I think I "get into" movies all the time, but I'm glad you liked the film and felt it was money well spent. I'm sure there will be a Transformers 3 very soon.

Yep. It was so bad, except for the action scenes. Even spiderman, batman have some depth to them and the reasons why they do things. In this movie the autobots are just one dimensional, flat. Nobody cares about the humans, it's supposed to be about the Transformers, like the name of the movie. lol

Yo...I'm 33, an adult...I thought it was great. There was a adult couple beside me that really enjoyed it as well. So, don't just say that the teens will just like it. Not probably better than the first but a lot of action which is what I wanted to see. It could have done without humor, it had errors, there was very little story but i didn't care. I liked it. I could tell who is who man. People need to do their homework on the Transformers so you know what they looked like and who they were.
I was into the Transformers cartoon back when I was a kid. After the movie and the Galavatron crap, I stopped watching it. Got too rediculous. This movie reminds me of the cartoon because it was a lot of Transformer on Transformer action. Where the first movie you had to get introduced to everything and everyone. The first movie dragged until the end. Atleast in this one, we jump right into the action 4 years later. I really liked that.

Not everybody is a transformer fan and there are tons of newcomer to the franchise. To say people need to know the characters beforehand is pretty absurd; isn't that what 'stories' are for? To explain to the people?
I saw the movie yesterday and I thought it was awesome and I'm past my puberty sir -lol- I can understand why people wouldn't like it, but for me, I just wanted to see giant Transformers battle each other and that's what I got, so yeah.. I liked the movie and I'm definitely gonna buy the DVD - Peace

Interesting comment regarding few people in the theater because I experienced the same thing when I saw Terminator 4 and Watchmen in Japan. Maybe Japanese people are smarter when choosing the movies they see in theater or maybe it is the 1800 yen price tag.
One interesting point regarding movies in Japan. Here it Tokyo you usually get a discount matine late night as opposed to early day matine in USA.

man i heard it was packed like crazy in the usa and I live in Canada and the movietheater i went to had 6 theaters playing thwe movie and everyone was sold out. ( i went on opening night)
I just saw the first movie on DVD and I wish I had seen it in the theater. It's not that I really felt it was worth the money, but the action was really hard to understand squashed down into a tiny screen. I think that I'll see this sequel at the local theater which is tiny rather than drive to a better screen.
My 7yr.-old son experienced the pure "Cool". My 65yr.-old dad experienced the pure "CACCA". I wanted to like it, but it was impossible to. It's a shallow assault with no redeeming virtue, other than a couple neat scenes. That's what trailers are for! See me review it with my dad, at "Gab and Dad".
Usually, movies come out in Japan WAY after they debut in the States. Movies not shown here yet this year include Wolverine (August), UP (December) and Bolt (July).
But occasionally a movie will open here a few days before it opens in America - it's not summer vacation here yet, so they opened it at the weekend instead of the mid-week opening it had in the US.
I guess I will be seeing it in theaters anyway sort of.
I am lucky enough to live near a drive in theater and will be going to see a double feature of Star Trek and Transformers. The lucky thing is that is only $8.50 to see the double feature. So if I like one of them enough I might head to a theater to see it again.
I liked her character in the 1st film, but she's given less to do in the 2nd film and has to suffer the indignity of having a robot hump her leg - since when did robots get horny for Megan Fox - I know she's hot but really? :)

Transformers 2 was an excellent movie. it gave way more lore which was the goal of the movie. the only problem i have with it was the fact that they made Megatron kinda...wimpy id say. but seriously its a great , funny movie that is a defiant see and buy. i think they gave Transformers lore and added new stuff which in my opinion is great.

the twins were the red and green robots? Yeah, they were super annoying. I thought they might be those twin "girl" robots that turned into some kind of motorcycle at the beginning - not sure what their names are.
I think J.J.Abrams should direct the third Transformers movie & get deeper into the story & the characteristics of the Autobots & their backgrounds.Transformers 2 was a spectacular summer movie,but this film had a lack of story,the directors camera was shakey especially during the battle scenes,The comedy toilet humor was too much & shouldv'e been toned a bit.
The problem that I had was that they did not introduce the new characters at all. And what happened to the Twins? I never really got to know their names or the others.
I'm a teenager, i know what u mean about "explotions! Hot chicks! Slow mo!" I love that stuff, alot. I saw this opening night and i loved it. Sure the plot was a bit wack... but all in all the special affects made up for it. Terminator 4 was good but not as good as transformers 2 (In my opinion)
i saw the movie today, im a big transformers fan, but this movie was ok. the parents are even more annoying on this film, and i dont like the fact that the military has much to do with this movie! let the transformers fight between them! shooting at them with guns dont harm them!!! unless its a tank or airstrike. i know megan fox is hot and all, but i think she dosent really belong on this movie! and since when do decepticons transform into humans?
I thought the same thing about the guns - they learned in the first film that bullets don't harm the robots. They had some other weapon later in the film - I think they called it a "rail gun" but they only used it once.
yeah - it came out in Japan a few weeks after America. My theater has "cheap" day on the first of the month (1000yen instead of 1800yen) so I actually went a 2nd time and saw it twice.

actually I said I (as in me) like action and comic book movies, which means that I'm not some movie snob who doesn't like a decent action flick. I just thought this one was all action and no substance, and not as good as the first film. After reading a bunch of American reviews today at sites like Cinemablend(dot)com I can see that I'm not alone.

well - I saw the first film and they took the time to set up each Autobot with a name and a personality of sorts. This 2nd movie just throws robot after robot at you - it was confusing in parts, but maybe if you're really into Transformers you can tell them all apart. It's a tough call on a movie like this - make it for the hard-core fans or try to please the casual viewer.

Good honest opinion! I'm a huge fan of the old Transformers, but the first movie by Michael Bay sucks. I'm not going to spend money to see it in the theather because I'll become part of the statistics. And if the new Terminator is better than Transformers, then this Transformers must REALLY suck!, LOL!
ive seen star trek, transformers 2 and terminator salvation and i think that star trek wasnt even close to as good as transformers 2 because it lacked the good action sequences that transformers had and star trek was mainly to do with the story, if they bring out a star trek 2 i think it will be alot better
i saw transformers 2 tonight with 6 of my friends they all love it but i had a little problem with it i thought it was a little weak and no real story and they where raging on me when i said it was just an ok movie just would like to know if any thought it was a let down (are ages 26 to 39)

Good review! Thanks for being HONEST and not putting on a show for the camera...some reviewers will praise the movie for just being a good summer movie (which i think it will) but you talked about the "emotion" of the movie and how it lacked it and that is what makes a good review.
I agree about not seeing which robot is which...they all look the SAME!!! I found that was my problem with the first movie and I see it's going to be the same with this.
Seriously,Transformers was always a good story,the first movie was good,but...Shia labeouf's character and his parent were completely unecessary to the whole plot.
But i wonder if the japanese version used the original voice actor for convoy(Optimus Prime)like they did in the american version for Optimus...
I saw it in English, so the same as North America - I'm sure they got some high-profile Japanese actors to do some of the major voices in the dub version.

I saw the first Transformers last night. That most definitely was not a good movie. I enjoyed Megan Fox and the transformers, but the main character and his parents were completely unnecessary. The 20 minutes or whatever where they were searching his room for the glasses was really hard to watch.
I may go see the new one in the theater, just because the transformers were really cool looking and the action was great in the first one. Crappy plot and characters be damned

Flawed, but still entertaining. There were occasions during a couple of battle scenes when I also couldn't tell if certain robots were Autobots or Decepticons. I found Shia's roommate to be an irrelevent character. As you said, this is definitely a big screen film.

Saw it on opening night in Osaka. The theatre was 3/4 full. I went with two friends. One loved it. One hated it. I felt it was just a little too over the top, even for what it is. There was so much action that it was hard to tell which robot was rich. Further, the story and acting was even more substandard than the last one.
well, as I said, it's definitely a "big screen" type movie, with lots of stuff blowing up real good - so maybe Imax will be just the stuff to make it a bit better. Let me know what you think after you see it.
I saw the IMAX version, with the extra 28 seconds of screentime - although I don't know where these extra frames were hidden - IMAX is the perfect format for this film; like 'The Dark Knight', certain scenes were shot using IMAX film cameras (I think they were used in 4 scenes), the sound is uncompressed and the massive screen really enhances the experience.
Don't people just piss you off? Anyways great video. Im going to Nagano in about half a month and Im gonna try to convince my host parents to let me go see it in Japanese. Its one of my favorite movies.
Bay wastes no shot where he can show off Fox's appeal to the teen boy demographic - she is incredibly beautiful, but is pretty much a glamour prop in this one.
At my job where we sell t.v.s, bedroom sets, living room sets and so on, we play Transformers 1 to show off the surround sound. I watch the Transformers movie at least 3 times a day. I can recite the entire thing. I have to see Transformers 2 because I just have to. I want to see where it's going and why so many people have disliked 2. I've been a fan of Transformers for many years now and I really hope I am not as disappointed as you were. Thanks for the review Jason. =)

Yeah I agree they had so much lore from the orignal series and the movies never really used it, and its understandable that you couldn't make out the robots they all look like there made of metal shrapnel. Cool points rewarded to you for the review.
I saw this yesterday here in the UK. It was pretty much what I was expecting - flashy special effects and some good fun, but possibly the most cliche film I've ever seen. Optimus' 'It is your destiny' made me cringe a little.
i need to watch this movie, but not as much as i needed to watch the dark knight or anything that good, just cause its the biggest action film of the year

I saw the movie yesterday and I thought it was awesome and I'm past my puberty sir -lol- I can understand why people wouldn't like it, but for me, I just wanted to see giant Transformers battle each other and that's what I got, so yeah.. I liked the movie and I'm definitely gonna buy the DVD - Peace

Interesting comment regarding few people in the theater because I experienced the same thing when I saw Terminator 4 and Watchmen in Japan. Maybe Japanese people are smarter when choosing the movies they see in theater or maybe it is the 1800 yen price tag.
One interesting point regarding movies in Japan. Here it Tokyo you usually get a discount matine late night as opposed to early day matine in USA.

yeah - we have late show discount here - 1500yen instead of 1800yen.
I think if I went to an opening of a Japanese language film or a Miyazaki film, it might be crowded, but Hollywood films almost never are.

man i heard it was packed like crazy in the usa and I live in Canada and the movietheater i went to had 6 theaters playing thwe movie and everyone was sold out. ( i went on opening night)

I just saw the first movie on DVD and I wish I had seen it in the theater. It's not that I really felt it was worth the money, but the action was really hard to understand squashed down into a tiny screen. I think that I'll see this sequel at the local theater which is tiny rather than drive to a better screen.

My 7yr.-old son experienced the pure "Cool". My 65yr.-old dad experienced the pure "CACCA". I wanted to like it, but it was impossible to. It's a shallow assault with no redeeming virtue, other than a couple neat scenes. That's what trailers are for! See me review it with my dad, at "Gab and Dad".

Usually, movies come out in Japan WAY after they debut in the States. Movies not shown here yet this year include Wolverine (August), UP (December) and Bolt (July).
But occasionally a movie will open here a few days before it opens in America - it's not summer vacation here yet, so they opened it at the weekend instead of the mid-week opening it had in the US.

I am lucky enough to live near a drive in theater and will be going to see a double feature of Star Trek and Transformers. The lucky thing is that is only $8.50 to see the double feature. So if I like one of them enough I might head to a theater to see it again.

1st one was WAY better. If you never got into transformers, look up Transformers G1 on youtube and stuff. You will know the lore.

Transformers 2 was an excellent movie. it gave way more lore which was the goal of the movie. the only problem i have with it was the fact that they made Megatron kinda...wimpy id say. but seriously its a great , funny movie that is a defiant see and buy. i think they gave Transformers lore and added new stuff which in my opinion is great.

I think J.J.Abrams should direct the third Transformers movie & get deeper into the story & the characteristics of the Autobots & their backgrounds.Transformers 2 was a spectacular summer movie,but this film had a lack of story,the directors camera was shakey especially during the battle scenes,The comedy toilet humor was too much & shouldv'e been toned a bit.

I wish they had IMAX out here, but I think there are only a handful of IMAX theaters in Japan - mostly in Tokyo and Osaka only.
Even tho it would look cooler, etc - it still wouldn't make it a better movie.

I'm a teenager, i know what u mean about "explotions! Hot chicks! Slow mo!" I love that stuff, alot. I saw this opening night and i loved it. Sure the plot was a bit wack... but all in all the special affects made up for it. Terminator 4 was good but not as good as transformers 2 (In my opinion)

i saw the movie today, im a big transformers fan, but this movie was ok. the parents are even more annoying on this film, and i dont like the fact that the military has much to do with this movie! let the transformers fight between them! shooting at them with guns dont harm them!!! unless its a tank or airstrike. i know megan fox is hot and all, but i think she dosent really belong on this movie! and since when do decepticons transform into humans?

I thought the same thing about the guns - they learned in the first film that bullets don't harm the robots. They had some other weapon later in the film - I think they called it a "rail gun" but they only used it once.

yeah - it came out in Japan a few weeks after America. My theater has "cheap" day on the first of the month (1000yen instead of 1800yen) so I actually went a 2nd time and saw it twice.

actually I said I (as in me) like action and comic book movies, which means that I'm not some movie snob who doesn't like a decent action flick. I just thought this one was all action and no substance, and not as good as the first film. After reading a bunch of American reviews today at sites like Cinemablend(dot)com I can see that I'm not alone.

well - I saw the first film and they took the time to set up each Autobot with a name and a personality of sorts. This 2nd movie just throws robot after robot at you - it was confusing in parts, but maybe if you're really into Transformers you can tell them all apart. It's a tough call on a movie like this - make it for the hard-core fans or try to please the casual viewer.

Good honest opinion! I'm a huge fan of the old Transformers, but the first movie by Michael Bay sucks. I'm not going to spend money to see it in the theather because I'll become part of the statistics. And if the new Terminator is better than Transformers, then this Transformers must REALLY suck!, LOL!

ive seen star trek, transformers 2 and terminator salvation and i think that star trek wasnt even close to as good as transformers 2 because it lacked the good action sequences that transformers had and star trek was mainly to do with the story, if they bring out a star trek 2 i think it will be alot better

i saw transformers 2 tonight with 6 of my friends they all love it but i had a little problem with it i thought it was a little weak and no real story and they where raging on me when i said it was just an ok movie just would like to know if any thought it was a let down (are ages 26 to 39)

Good review! Thanks for being HONEST and not putting on a show for the camera...some reviewers will praise the movie for just being a good summer movie (which i think it will) but you talked about the "emotion" of the movie and how it lacked it and that is what makes a good review.
I agree about not seeing which robot is which...they all look the SAME!!! I found that was my problem with the first movie and I see it's going to be the same with this.

Seriously,Transformers was always a good story,the first movie was good,but...Shia labeouf's character and his parent were completely unecessary to the whole plot.
But i wonder if the japanese version used the original voice actor for convoy(Optimus Prime)like they did in the american version for Optimus...

I saw the first Transformers last night. That most definitely was not a good movie. I enjoyed Megan Fox and the transformers, but the main character and his parents were completely unnecessary. The 20 minutes or whatever where they were searching his room for the glasses was really hard to watch.
I may go see the new one in the theater, just because the transformers were really cool looking and the action was great in the first one. Crappy plot and characters be damned

I think I will wait till it comes out on bluray and rent it and watch it on my fathers home theater...it's nice and should be just as good as at the cinema.

Flawed, but still entertaining. There were occasions during a couple of battle scenes when I also couldn't tell if certain robots were Autobots or Decepticons. I found Shia's roommate to be an irrelevent character. As you said, this is definitely a big screen film.

Transformers looks so childish to me for some reason. Saw the preview for Transformers when I went to see Star Trek and it looked so outlandish and to be frank, stupid.

Saw it on opening night in Osaka. The theatre was 3/4 full. I went with two friends. One loved it. One hated it. I felt it was just a little too over the top, even for what it is. There was so much action that it was hard to tell which robot was rich. Further, the story and acting was even more substandard than the last one.
This one was too long and WAY TOO LOUD...

well, as I said, it's definitely a "big screen" type movie, with lots of stuff blowing up real good - so maybe Imax will be just the stuff to make it a bit better. Let me know what you think after you see it.

I saw the IMAX version, with the extra 28 seconds of screentime - although I don't know where these extra frames were hidden - IMAX is the perfect format for this film; like 'The Dark Knight', certain scenes were shot using IMAX film cameras (I think they were used in 4 scenes), the sound is uncompressed and the massive screen really enhances the experience.

At my job where we sell t.v.s, bedroom sets, living room sets and so on, we play Transformers 1 to show off the surround sound. I watch the Transformers movie at least 3 times a day. I can recite the entire thing. I have to see Transformers 2 because I just have to. I want to see where it's going and why so many people have disliked 2. I've been a fan of Transformers for many years now and I really hope I am not as disappointed as you were. Thanks for the review Jason. =)

I saw this yesterday here in the UK. It was pretty much what I was expecting - flashy special effects and some good fun, but possibly the most cliche film I've ever seen. Optimus' 'It is your destiny' made me cringe a little.
