my cousin is at Ft. Knox right now for 19D. and i can not decide if i want to join the Army or the Marines i have always wanted to be a Marine my dad was but im going to have to wait at least another year before i can leave for boot because i fucked up in highschool and even though i graduated from a regular high school my 10th grade year was at a continuation school.so i have to get 15 college credits.
@11bangbangable you have some valid points. im a former scout . Ive delt with alot of infantry. In general that is true a average scout vs a true ranger bat. soldier, ranger is more dangerous. Yea most scouts dont have an iq of 20 so yes we would rather drive 2 miles in iraq to get to our location. than hump two miles and be an idiot and relize wait a minute we just walked down a road for that long and could wiped a whole section/squad from a ied. Idiots and shut the fuck up with opsec.

everyone one goes into the delayed entry program in one way or another wether you leave the next day or months down the road, for it was two weeks. then theyll shack you up in a hotel close to a major airport near your meps station. then youll fly out to (since your gonna be a 19D) fort knox and start your oh so fun training for 16 weeks.
i joined the army in the spilt option program and it was the biggest regret ever. it sucks beacuse you could only be in the reserves or the guard, not active and there arent any combat mos's in the reserves. so your only choice if you want to be 19d is the guard and your going to be a weekend warrior witch is pertty gay. my advice and what i should of done was just to wait one more school year and go active!!! going actvie is the best thing anyone could ever do.

google magic my friend, if we are actually doing our jobs we will go ahead of the main force, recon the area, pull op's and monitor for enemy activity. if we find a large group well call in artillary and mortars, or if the force is small enough we will either attack it or wait and hide to see if we can find the big group. fun stuff. plus you get to playwith more cool toys than the infantry!
Similar to the Australian Aslav units. Go ahead of the main force and screen of areas and report enemy positions Using an Upgraded version of the Lav 25 he USMC.
Also used for transporting Inf squads through the frontlines and providing fire support with the 25

well i found out i can't be a cav scout anyway, got up to MEPS found out i have CVD (Color Vision Deficiency) in short I'm colorblind, got a medical waiver for 31b. then I'm told 2 years before i get out i can Re-class, because they don't test for colorblindness. i think that if go that route I'll go infantry tho. Leaving September 16 for Fort Leonard Wood. wish me luck.
Im not too fond of first cav, my last duty station was ft. hood as an MP. On my first deployment they not only launched a freaking AT-4 on the FOB, on accident, but they also shot into the FOB from about 700m away with .50's, one round from them almost popped my commander. But second deployment they were ok, helped us MEDEVAC a soldier and counter attack a big ambush.
Kind of...if you get ambushed. Normally they are just supposed to report enemy movement and positions and not fire unless they are ambushed or fired upon. But in iraq...well its a very different war...thats why cav scouts are sometimes called "infantryman with phd's"
