  • Thank you so much for all of your videos and written instructions. I owe ALL of my crocheting abilities to you!!!!! God bless you!!

  • @conbabe12345 You are kind, thank you.

  • Teresa, on the written instructions for row 8, it says to do 6HDC's and then 2, but I'm pretty sure you meant to put "1" HDC. Is that correct?

  • @conbabe12345 Holy cow, you are right! I am getting it corrected, thank you.

  • Mine doesn't curl up but it's acting wavy, did I do something wrong?

  • Do that mean count to 24

  • @emstmerant You will find a link to the written instructions in the video details below the video.

  • I like your items you make, just an idea maybe you should say the size hook your using before even starting the item that you make.

  • @pookiemooshoo Look at my recent videos from the past 3 years. My crochet blog provides a lot of details as well. You will find written instructions to accompany each video tutorial.

  • Can this hat be made for kids with a ruffle? I like this stich rather then the V. Thanks

  • Easy to follow for beginner! Thank you!

  • @jeffheathersammi Thank you!

  • Thank you for zooming in so far on your work -- this is one of the best videos I've seen, just for that reason. So helpful!

  • @mkyker Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • my hat is taking up a ruffled shape?

  • @prayerwarrior1995 Then to many increase stitches are being worked.

  • @tjw1963 I do not get round 3 either can not 24 stitches out of it? I keep looking at the video.... minds think and interpret differently.

  • @tjw1963 I do not get round 3 either can not 24 stitches out of it? I will keep looking at the video.... minds think and interpret differently.

  • @prayerwarrior1995 I recommend that you follow how you interpret the directions. If your count is close, most likely the hat is going to come be close in size.

  • I was ok until round 5.....will try again.

  • @Rune101rune sorry I did not sign out son name.

  • Thank you so much for this video Teresa! I have always wanted to crochet, and was able to crochet my first hat with your video!

So, can you explain to me (I'm a beginner), how I can increase the circumference of the hat so it can fit a hat with a larger head? Which steps would I repeat/change etc?

    thanks!!

  • @jp65a The easiest way to make a hat larger is to use a larger crochet hook. The other way is to work more increase rounds with the increase stitches, which are two stitches in the same stitch.

  • How can you make different sizes from newborn up to adult?

  • Hi I'm so g

  • Thanks for sharing. I love it, How much of yarn do you use and what grams are they?

  • @TheVGinia You will use 250-350 yards

  • @tjw1963 thanks for your quick answer! Good work!

  • could you shoe us how to do a Herringbone half double crochet stitch?

  • Just started.......thanks

  • @MegaDavid0987 You are welcome!

  • What is the benefit of working between stitches, instead of through the chain like usual? Does it make a stiffer fabric?

  • @blightedangel I have found it makes a smoother finish! It is preference and you can do it either way.

  • I loved this! It took me a couple tries - I need to use a K hook because I pull my stitches too tight - but I now have an adorable crocheted cloche hat! I also use your flower tutorial and put one on my hat. I m so happy. Thank you so much for your directions.

  • @jsher1ock I am happy it turned out for you! Thank you for mentioning the use of a larger crochet hook. That is a great tip to keep in mind.

  • well am not sure i followed to pattren and my brim is too wavy and but i will try it once more the one thing i do remember is when i used a marker i did have to keep moving it over not up so maybe that is it

  • @goddessdenise1 Have you gotten the brim fixed? It is possible that to many stitches were worked, which will make the brim to full and wavy.

  • @tjw1963 i have the wavy problem too.. i donno what to do :/

  • i tried to make this hat and it came out too big and the brim was to wavy i made sure I followed what you said to do what do you think happen

  • @goddessdenise1 It is possible that you worked to many increase stitches, which will give it a wavy effect.

  • @tjw1963 umm.. can you make a video on how to avoid the wavy problem, please :D

    cause i don't get it like that ^ ^' .. i'm a beginner :")

  • Teresa,

I just adore what you do and God bless you in every way for all the people you help. I am still going strong on my little Etsy shop but not selling much yet. I have faith that God will help me if I just keep on making a quality product and a current, unique kind of cool hat. I have made a pretty cool hat that i am working on getting pictures on babies, children and adults. HUGe difference in sales. My shop is closed for the summer and to give me time to get new ideas together.

  • Love the way you teach crochet and you patterns, but I have been trying to find a newsboy free pattern...I only have been crocheting since this past march and fell in love with it...if you can do a newsboy hat I would appreciate it very much...ty

  • That didn't even help you didn't even explain it?

  • @tazio998 If you are a beginner, I recommend that you become familiar with the basic crochet stitches before trying out an actual pattern. This pattern will make more sense.

  • your so awsome thank you so much thank you thank you thank you

  • @maxie1133 I appreciate you watching, thank you.

  • mine keeps getting rouned before i even get past round 2, i can't figure out why...it looks like a hat for a really teeny tiny baby

  • @sweetnsassy1619 It sounds like you may be missing some increase stitches.

  • longest vid ever...

  • @stevekim123 I would estimate 60-90 minutes.

  • What size hook do u suggest if i were making this hat for an adult? What round would i start My increases to enlarge My hat ? Where would i find a manican head, i hope i spelled that correctly to hang My hats On? I would like to make a scarf could u tell me what tutorial to go to. i enjoy your work. Thanks

  • @bemefreedom This hat is for an adult size using an i/5.5mm hook. The mannequin heads can be found online through Amazon. I will send you a link for a scarf.

  • how do i make the hat bigger

  • @bemefreedom The easiest way is to use a larger crochet hook. The next way will be to include more increase rounds which will make the hat larger.

  • ahh. okei thank you very much!!!

  • thanks for the tutorials. i was able to make one for my friend. teresa, my friend is now in new jersey, do you know a place where he can buy a set of hooks for me? i use only one size of hook in every project i make. i use size 4.0.i went in different arts and crafts store here in philippines but they sell same size of hook and not by set. i want the hooks that uses letters for size like the hooks you are using in the tutorials. thank you and GODbless you.

  • @aneehs30 Walmart will have crochet hooks if the store has a craft section.

  • mine is curving in

  • I am addicted to your videos and written instructions. I love crocheting and now I have a crocheting buddy with you and you are my new bf! Keep up the wonderful work, I love it.

  • Simply beautiful and easy tutorials

    Thanks Teresa

  • @121Annas Thank you.

  • Hi, Do you know how to make kufi's?

  • This is such a cute hat! I am a beginner and would love to crochet this hat. I have been practicing the stitches by crocheting your flowers. My weakness is crocheting in the continuous round and determining guage.

I have yarn that requires to use a M hook. How can I figure out the gauge to crochet this hat with a M hook?

    Thanks!

  • If I want to make a band on the bottom of this hat in a different color how should I do this ? I want to make the hat white with a band of a different color then return to the white for the brim/edging.

    Thanks !

  • I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Every time I try to make any type of hat, beanie, or cloche hat, it turns into a cone, or it's way too small.

any idea on what I am doing wrong?

  • 1) You may naturally crochet tight.

    2) The hook you are using may be smaller.

    3) The yarn may be smaller.

    4) You may be missing some increase stitch or rounds.

  • 1) I am new at crocheting. So I know I am doing that.

    2) I am using the same size hook as you are.

3)The yarn I am using is actually larger than yours.

    4)I might be.

  • What might of happened is, that you are using too thick of yarn for the size needle and not able to see all the stitches. Then if you cannot see the stitches, you accidentally skip one or more stitches. I have experience in this :) What I did to test it out is I practiced on some thinner worsted weight yarn. I looked at some yarn that says to use a J hook on the label and crocheted a couple of rows of the pattern and it turned out right. I was so happy, I almost cried.

    Hope this helps!

  • My previous post was for TeletubbiesChannel.

  • Thank you!

    It helped me, [:

  • nice hat

  • lovely. what size is your hook?

  • It is a size I/5.5mm

  • wow, thank you so much! you explain everything so clearly! ^_^ can't wait to start my new project!!!

  • You are welcome.

  • can u also make scarfs?

  • I have patterns and pattern stitches for scarfs. If you see a pattern stitch you like, you can make a scarf out of it.

  • because of you, my hat is turning great. thanks!

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you so much. I'm a beginner knitter and learned how to crochet from scratch through this project. Had few mistakes but now I get it!

  • You are welcome.

  • You have soo many videos! I tried the videos from Expert Villiage, but the people don't explain things well enough. It seems like you really know what you're doing and I think this is the next video I'll try :-)

  • Thank you.

  • First off.. Thank you so much for these videos. They have been so helpful! Second, is there any way to modify this hat to make it for a baby? I have already made the baby beanie from the video you provided, but it came out a little big because I want it for a newborn. I like this design and would really like to make a baby hat out of it. Thank you!

  • You can modify any cap to fit a smaller head. I would estimate 25-35 stitches for a newborn size. The size hook and yarn you use will also depend on the end size of the cap.

  • how much do crochet hooks cost?

  • not much, you can get one at walmart for under 2 bucks. and a ball of yarn is around 2.50

  • You can purchase crochet hooks for around $1.50 a piece or 6 different sizes in a package for around $5-$7 dollars.

  • I just made this hat. It turned out so cute. I was surprised at how easy it was. I am starting another one now and am going to make it longer so I can fold the brim up

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • I cannot figure out how to measure the size of the hat in stitches. I keep making either too small or too big. If for example, the women size would be 21 inches, does it mean that I should make the top 21 inches in circumference and then continue on without increasing or should I stop increasing a little earlier? Do you know what I mean?

  • In order to get a hat exact, the person making the cap would need to crochet exactly like the person that made the pattern. That does not always happen. There may be an amount of modification with some patterns. There is not a way to actually figure out how large the hat will be from the crown. You can have 50 or 100 stitches in the same circle. The 100 will continue to expand where the 50 will form sides sooner. There will be some trial and error with modification.

  • is there any way to make a crochet beanie but kinda make it look like it was knit. i like the way knit beanies look but all i know how to do is crochet

  • i am a beginner

in fact, i have just started today

i have made a basic flower using chain stiches

i want to try something harder but that is the only stitch i no so i can really do anything else

  • I have been trying to learn this for three years now, off and on....boy do I have a lot of snarled yarn, and odd looking pot holders! You are THE

first instructor who has made it easy to understand. Thanks so much for sharing your generous gift of teaching!

  • You are welcome, I appreciate the comment.

  • I absolutely Agree, I've been doing this for a little while myself, And I have a hard time understanding written instructions.. (because people seem to interpret what they're doing differently) But I can follow what she's doing to a T! Thank you :)

  • Thanks for all of your videos! They are very informative. But Im having a hard time figuring how big to make the hats. I use a slightly different method than you do. I start with a flat circle of increase rows and then do the sides. How do i know how big to make that first flat circle? Please help!!

  • Sounds like you are working with the "trial and error" method. You will stop increasing and let the sides form at some point. That is the only way that you will know the size of the hat. If it is not the size you are looking for, you will rip back and add more increase rounds to make a larger hat.

  • I'm going to save this vid and try it when I'm uninterrupted. I haven't found any instructionals that I've understood; I'm a knitter and looking pretty dumb at learning to crochet. I hope I can understand what I'm doing here. If I actually GET this, I will be sure to post!! and recommend.

  • Written instructions can be confusing. I do have written to go along with the video.

  • I don't have a clue on how to read patterns or acronyms; I do much better when someone speaks very slowly and I can follow along. Preferably, I need someone right beside me to correct as I go along. I learn quick but not generally through instructionals. Still waiting for time uninterrupted! Hmm....

  • yes iam i have been trying all different patterns and i have wacted a couple of ur videos and it looks very complicated.

    fm kimberley

  • I sent you the beginner crochet stitches. It may be helpful to become familiar with some of the basic stitches before trying an actual pattern.

  • iam confused about crochet

  • Are you a beginner?

  • what kind of warn do you recommend? (Not necessarily the brand)

And I agree-your instructions are very good. Thank you!

  • Omfg?? u made a hat it 10 min! it takes me hours

  • The time of the video is not the actual time it takes to make the hat. It takes me about an hour to make a hat.

  • Seriously the best instruction ive seen. I'm so glad I found your videos! I will use your videos from now on and recommend you to everyone! Thank you!

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • This is a beautiful hat. I saw the one you made on your blogspot with the angel on the side. Do you have a pattern for the angel? If you don't, would you be interested in making a hat for me with the angel on it? I would really like to have one made for my grandmother! Thank you.

  • I apologize for being slow to respond back to you. I got the hat out to see how I made it. This hat pattern is the the one that I used.

  • This pattern is really easy and it looks great. I made one already. :) I am extremely new to crocheting. I have only been doing it for a couple of weeks. What I was hoping for was maybe a pattern for just the angel since this hat works great. :) I am certainly not versed enough to figure it out. If it was a beading, that would be different. :)

  • are you using 4ply yarn?

  • Yes, 4 ply yarn.

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • i just made a hat, thanks teresa! you're a great tutor! (i put a little flower on the brim too, pretty cute!)

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment. :)

  • I have been trying to add 3 or 4 more rows begore the row that curls up the sides. I can't find a system that doesn't mess it all up. What would you suggest to do? I can repeat rows 4-7, but it ruins the effect of the curling up row (row 8 doesn't do what it should). I'm felting so I need a broader base before starting the sides.

  • I would suggest that you repeat round 8, 2 or 3 times consecutively until you get it the size you want. OR you can try doing a round with an increase every other stitch.

  • I made two hats, and they look very cute.

  • Is this chunky yarn or sport weight? J hook is pretty large for sport weight, or is that how you are getting that soft chunky look? I like it!

  • It is 4 ply yarn which is between sport weight and chunky.

  • OK, must be what we call worsted weight

  • I love HDC's, I get all excited when it's time to do them, lol. These hats are so nice, and so simple...they actually are perfect for another project I have- making felted birdsnests! Thanks for posting. I was trying to make up my own patterns and getting nowhere.

  • Ever since I made a couple of hats that I learned to crochet by watching you - I have got tons of requests from friends and family for winter hats! I may have to go in to business now! Lol! Thank you for helping expand my crochet abilities!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • ok thanks for the help

  • for some reason i keep getting 23 stitches on the 2nd row after i have finished and i keep doing it over and over making sure i have 2 in each hdc between each stitch

  • Go ahead and do one more stitch. It is not that important to get stuck on numbers with hats, since the stitches can easily be added in at any point and it will not be noticed. Sometimes the yarn marker will shift to the right, while the beginning of the round will shift to the left. That happens when you are doing the continual round and increasing. If you are stopping right at the yarn marker each round and not moving the yarn marker, you will not have enough stitches.

  • thi is WAYYYYYYY TOOO HARD!

  • Are you new to crochet? I have tutorials for basic stitches to practice before you go to a project.

  • Thank you for the video. Ive crocheted many of pieces but have never done a hat or anything circular. I started a hat and found uneven lumps starting to pop up. I kept and even tension but it feels like there are too many stitches for one row or the stitches are getting "crammed", if you will. Could you please help me get and even curve like yours does in this vid. Thanks.

  • I would recommend counting very carefully each round and following with a yarn marker. This should help eliminate to many stitches in one place.

  • hello...i just cant understand why i think i'm just starting to learn oh well please i want to request about how to crochet a big circle please make it more understandable for me because sometimes to hard to understand

  • hi, i was just curious where i could find your written instructions because i looked all ove the page of your video and i couldnt see any signs of a link to take me to directions. could you show me?

  • The instructions are posted to the right of the video under the "More Info" link.

  • thank you so muh for posting these videos these are really helpfull to me you are the only person i come to on youtube to show me how to crochet the only one i dont get is the heart but all the rest is fantastic

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Hi, I am watching your videos for sometime now on youtube, and they are wonderful, very explicit, and it's so easy for me to follow you. Soo thank for posting them. I want to ask if you have also a video explaning the OVAL STITCH, because I did not see it. All the best, and keep up the good work. Hugs

  • Thank you. What are you calling the oval stitch? Are you talking about making an actual oval?

  • hi` i try to crochet like you bt the size is for children not for adult.

  • If your crochet is significantly smaller than the tutorial, that would lead me to believe the following:

    1. Crochet tension is tight

    2. The hook is smaller

    3. The yarn is smaller

  • Does it matter what kind of yarn because I'm using a cotton and I keep having to restart because it keeps getting tighter and it want to turn into itself if that makes sense at all...

I'm a beginner, and I really like this hat but I just can't get it....

  • You should be able to use cotton yarn. Are you saying that sides are turning up to early?

  • i really did think it was helpful but i would have liked it if u use another color cause i could bearly see

  • Thank you. There is a little link below the video "Watch in High Quality". It may help a little. I have been trying to stay away from dark and to light of colors for the future video's.

  • How would I make one for a baby? I have a 6 month old.

  • You will need to modify the pattern. There are several ways it can be done. You can use a smaller hook, yarn and/or less increase rounds. It should be pretty easy for you to custom fit the cap to your child's head by checking every so often to see if it is fitting right.

  • I LOVE this hat! I've made three of them in the last two days. Your instructions are great - very easy to follow and you have a very pleasant speaking voice. Thank you, thank you! :)

  • You are welcome. Thank you for commenting.
