  • wow ..everyone agree to one album

  • great review. insightful ideas thrown around. i loved this album, but there is just something about the rawness of 'illadeph halflife' that makes it my favorite album by The Roots.

  • haha i love how nerdy anthony seems with these guys

  • @mattydigs

Apparently not, man. I left something that rightfully contradicts the 23 minutes they spent on this review, and there's no conversation to follow up. It's like the concept of the album and my review went right over their heads.

Where do you catch album reviews?

  • I will always remember this epsiode. This was the episode that got me on deadendhiphop. Been a fan ever since!

  • Anthony Fantano was MADE to review. I like dead end's funny "shoot the shit " format. But if u need a really cohesive review look no further than theneedledrop man

  • and this is why I don't watch any other video reviews except the needle drop.

  • Classic work... mature! just what i wan listen to!

  • @YCISTHEBEST I am trolling, obviously this Album is genius, one of my top Albums of 2011

  • can u review rick ross rich forever mixtape

  • @okainjones They could of not released the Album at all, with stupid comments like yours appearing. I agree the Album is terrible though.

  • @EZekiel2k12 the album is amazing everything about it

  • Just bought the album yesterday after seeing this review! I agree that this album is a classic, the Roots are a classic band! Disappointing is the way the album was put together physically...nothing special! I wish they would have made a special version, not simply the plastic with a regular booklet! They could have made this more special, especially after the last albums had a special album cover... Something like the Rhymesayers...every album has a special way of physic! My only "-"!

  • A little different interpretation of an absolutely ridiculous and amazing Roots album. I still cycle "How I Got Over" in my Alpine. Undun won't take its place, but it'll sit right next to it and definitely get the playtime it deserves. [Part. 7]

  • @CatacombKidd This isn't the place for an intelligent review....

  • The character is torn between living or dying, then finds some sense of peace in the control of the ultimate decision, then is faced with the madness of carrying this action out, then there's a moment of tranquility when his soul departs from his shell. Remember now, the last track is called "Finality". These tracks could also be reminiscent of the stages of emotions that someone would go through, finding out that someone who they shared a relationship with, committed suicide. [Part. 6]

  • Whether your simply listening to good Hip-Hop music or you are personally identifying and relating with the strong sense of melancholy that is apparent for the duration of the album, you are intensely impacted either way. Tonally, the last 4 tracks are like the chorus to the tail end of a Greek Tragedy. [Part. 5]

  • You guys are reviewing the last instrumental tracks as if they were just filler or that they're just a simple and unthoughtful attempt to show that The Roots are capable of producing dynamic Jazz music. These last 4 tracks are so much more then that. In my opinion, this album was finished with complete genius. Throughout the album, you are experiencing the journey, trials and tribulations of this disheartened character. [Part. 4]

  • They're almost insinuating that the main character is screwed from the start, presenting that he doesn't have the presence of his mother. This isn't to say that everyone growing up without the presence of their mother or a mother figure is screwed, but in this scenario, it seems that it has contributed to the characters complications.

With my interpretation of the album being read from birth to death, it also leaves the last 4 instrumental tracks to be very representational of this idea. [Pt. 3]

  • I don't think this album is intended to be read inverted, from death to birth. After listening to the whole album straight through, this first track is very representational of birth.Yes, there's the sound of a flat-line implying death, but there's also the continual crying of a new born. Being very cognoscente of the concept, I interpreted this as a mother passing away during childbirth. What better way to set the tone of our disheartened main character? [Part. 2]

  • Hey, guys. What's good? With no disrespect intended, it appears that we've interpreted the concept of this conceptual album very differently all together. There are a few things I'd like to shed some light on, that will perhaps give you guys a totally different outlook of the album upon on another listen through, from first track to last track, in one sitting. I tend to digress and this might take a few posts, so please bare with me. Lol [Part.1]

  • Hey camera guy... Zoom out you idiot.

  • long ass review. you know the 5th dynasty always delivers. roots roots crew yo

  • As a producer I hated the sound of this album. Now finding out that there was a concept within the album, I have to listen to it again. There was only one song that made my neck snap.

  • @godofbeats let me guess was it "lighthouse"?

Dude give it a couple of more listens, it will grow on you. To be honest I've never really went crazy on roots albums on the first listen, but at the end of the year it ends up being one of favorite.

My top 5 albums of 2011

    1) Kendrick Lamar - "Section 80"

    4) Big K.R.I.T. - "Return of 4eva"

    3) Common - "Dreamer"

    4) The Roots - "Undun"

    5) Phonte - "Charity starts at home"

  • this album is fucking incredible!! zero skip album

  • lloyd banks cold corner 2

    50 cent the big 10

    please review fi us!

  • Anythony Fantano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You don't understand music.

  • A 23 minute review. You could've added this as a bonus disk to the album.

  • Is there a bad Roots album?

  • @andrewburton12345678 A bad Roots album? There's no such thing

  • No such thing.

  • @andrewburton12345678 Phrenology maybe. It wasn't necessarily bad but it was their worst album.

  • @FukNewSkool Yeah, but The Roots' worst album is better than a lot of MC's best album.

  • @WasseLanno @fattyJNL They can't review everything man. Hit them up on twitter about it if you want to put them on.

  • Great review. Definitely look out for more reviews from these guys. I've never been a fan of getting random people to review albums, especially when they have no knowledge or interest in the genre. Too often I feel that's the kind of reviewer hip hop gets.

  • Feefo's Whip approved

  • Is it just or does Anthony Fantano look like a white black guy?

  • Los - The Crown Ain't Safe

  • 7:57 Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, not 30 Rock.

  • really, the ending moved me, I cried on the last one.

  • Awe inspiring album i copped this today.

  • nobody dislikes this album. wow!!

  • This shit is amazing. By far my favorite album of 2011. The Roots managed to make a lyrical, brilliant, well-executed concept album, without forgetting that, at the end of the day, they're making MUSIC. A lot of the time, artists forget that, and end up making an insane lyric-fest that sounds like shit. I can honestly say that, musically, this is one of my favorite albums of the 2000s, hands down. Great review, by the way, lol.

  • I love this album ... I'm 32 years old and I been a hip hop fan since I was 13 years old and it seems as we grow some hip hop doesn't grow with us but with an album like undun this kind of hip hop did grow with us meaning I'm a grown man I don't always want to hear ghetto crap. This type of hip hop is for mature minds. I can put the album on and hear it from beginning to end I even love the instrumentals at the end.

  • 22 mins holy shit

  • for me personally , it was obvious that the album atarted at the end first but from the way the four instrumentals sound at the end, they seem to have every type of mood within each track, you hear very sad dark/upbeat to very beautiful all the way to the chaotic endind that ends in silence. Kinda seems like those instrumentals are meant to tell the timeline of redfords life from beginning to chaotic end. just my opinion though

  • 1996 is the best year for hip-hop albums. if yall dont know then yall listen to too much hipster b-s.

  • do you want more?!??!! (1995) is better than their last couple albums

  • If you remember way back in the day, Black Eyed Peas' 1st two LPs were respectable hip hop."Behind the Front," and "Bridging the Gap" sounded like BEP were trying to replicate The Roots' sound. Either they decided they couldn't do it or just liked the idea of MAKING A LOT OF MONEY I'm not sure. Also, I'm new to DEHH, have you guys heard any of Pete Philly's music?

  • @TheLebowski5 I remember those albums. I had "Bridging the Gap" That album was really good. Everything after that is straight up POO.

  • i feel like dead end didn't respect anthony's opinion on this review

which is tough to watch because in my personal opinion anthony has more talent at what he does than all of these guys

maybe dead end is jealous that their view count is lower than a single reviewer

    just a thought

  • @666trill666 Deadendhiphop style of review doesn't lend itself to indepth anaylses like Anthony's reviews. Deadendhiphop is reviews are basically like my friends talking about album and giving you different views. It's five of them, if they were to all give you a Needle Drop type of review most people would complain that the video was too long. So as far as more talent who knows. I think Kinge, myke and beezy have more knowlege of hip-hop then Anythony does but I don't know.

  • @coolnesss16 This shit involves talent? Then we're all fucked.

  • @mykectown lol Having an opinion=Talent

  • @mykectown lol Having an opinion=Talent ?

  • i think that it was cool that the features actually stayed on topic and contributed to the concept of the album. usually rappers don't even collaborate, they write their part and slap it on the track.

  • this year has been great for hip hop! we had great releases from krit, cunninlynguists, kendrick, death grips, the roots, shabazz palaces and many others.

i listen to everything from folk music to metal, but my top 10 this year is mostly hip hop.

  • Anthony ripped everyone else in this review, made them look like idiots haha.

  • gah. i love dehh

  • I wanted to look at the comments and all I see is 2 faggots arguing.

  • @mattydigs I'm assuming you saw your father and Jerry Sandusky arguing............ oh the irony

  • @mandolinoh Why don't you two lovebirds take it to private messages? No one wants to read that bullshit.

  • @mattydigs Why are you trying to be tough on the internet Man. You Dungeon and Dragon, Tom Green look a like Douche. Why don't you go try making contact with women instead of writing stupid messages. The only time you have seen pussy, was when the doctors was pulling you out your mother. Douche Bag

  • @mandolinoh Pot. Kettle. Black. etc. I'm not going to contribute anymore to this. Like I said no one wants to read this bullshit. You can go and attempt to defend your little ego after this like you've done many times before on this video but it won't matter. You've already shown yourself to be a sad, frail, weak-minded man with a serious inferiority complex. Hope you enjoy where that gets you ;)

  • @mattydigs I'm going to tell you like this, you will never be at my level. You know Why????????? I have a WIFE & FAMILY. Hang yourself.

  • @mattydigs Oh.... and before you type your rebuttal......... don't say you got a girl..... as far as I'm concerned hands do not constitute the opposite sex. FAGGOT eat SHIT and DIE

  • @mattydigs You still haven't explained how your father recited the complete alphabet with Jerry Sandusky Cock in his mouth.

  • does feefo have a hitler moustache??

  • Can't wait to hear this, especially with Myke's praises because he did put me on to CunninLynguists.

  • I wish the Roots would come to Vancouver!!!

  • lmfao what the fuck was feefo going with at 5:50 haha

  • @deadendhiphop Please can u guys Review Reks Album R.E.K.S, Peace

  • Let opinions be opinions. No need for all the anger. I did like this album though once I finally got around to checking it out.

  • feefo made me cringe

  • Saw them live at Bluesfest this year. Best act of the festival (well, tied with the Black Keys), and in my top five performances ever.

  • Really good collaborative review, and yeah this album is pretty special. The Roots never disappoint, instant classic.

  • Excellent review

  • I wholeheartedly disagree with neddledrop...

  • Undun equals perfection, simple and plan... Redford is surreal

  • swag!!!

  • SOOF-YAHN. (not SUFF-JAN)

  • I want a black friend.

  • @thefruitleather

Oooh! Can I have one too? Preferably on a keychain

  • @thefruitleather right here buddy

  • More Myke C Town Vs. Fantano!!

  • Do a favorite albums of the year video.

  • Stevens? hahha I wouldve liked to of seen them try and pronounce Sufjan.

  • and feefo looks like he Teethed on rocks .. hahahahahahahaha

  • my beats ?? i never put any beats up ??? i dont even make beats you dumb nigger lol... and it takes for black dicks to come up with something creative ?? to come at 1 guy with . damn now i see where all your minds are at ... do you guys hold hands when your making reviews also ?? lol. so sad .. that 1 guy has more views , than 4 fags ... ""claiming they know hip hop " when they dont know thier head from thier azz .. Split End Hip Hop ... lloll...

  • Wow. Great fucking review guys. Subbed.

    Chuchesta out.

  • Feefo's mustache bodies this video.

  • @Alex703rockstar Yea my shit was looking fucked up yo damn

  • Lupe has some songs like this called "The Cool" then he did a album on it .. I love the roots tho gotta check this out

  • Black Thought def refines like wine. Like what Anthony was saying he is REALLY getting better as a rapper and artist as time goes on and that is rare in hip-hop. As good as he was in the roots first albums he's multiplied his skills and style on their last few and his features on other other albums

  • you guys should talk about top 10 personal favorite mc's of all time

  • Please can u guys review Reks Album - R.E.K.S., Peace

  • It would be Dope if you guys could talk about each of your Top 5 Hip Hop Albums of all Time, even Modest Media's, Peace

  • Will these guys review ITAOTS?

  • I like that suburb to suburban transition

  • lol this review is almost as long as the album

  • Please Review Immortal Technique - The Martyr !!.

  • *the most ever

  • Black Though is definitely the emcee that has been called "most underrated emcee ever" ever.

  • Feefo is fucking retarded dude

  • @daddyfatsaxohten It's actually a hilarious way of talking. Saying words with no message.

"Oh, you wanna talk about the music? Oh yo, the music. Oh man. Musically...MUSICALLY? In terms of musically, I like how it ended. Like how it sounded at the end. The music is dope man listen to it. The concept. THE CONCEPT. It was a great concept, possibly one of the best concepts I've eva heard. It just fit. Musically."

    That dude cracked me up.

  • @daddyfatsaxohten whos feefo and why is he retarded?

  • @daddyfatsaxohten what makes you say that?

  • Random question, did NoYork come out already?

  • Feefo rockin' the Hitler stache?

  • 50 Cent - The Big 10

    REVIEW THIS SHIT

  • black thought sounded like black cock when i wasn't paying attention so i got an interesting review out of this

  • @froman46992 "Need more black cock." That's what you heard? Aw man, you're brave to admit that! Hahah!

  • listening to it now before i watch this

  • yo I think yall should have a top 10 discussion one of these days that'll be good to hear everybody's choices

  • you guys are really on point the roots are like no other

  • how can i be a dedicated dehh if , im subscribed to anthony, and not your page ?? lol. the only real reason you needed anthony on your page is for the views . so dont sit thier and hate on me , because your show is not worth watching, unless you have features .. well ""feefo or fifi" is funny to watch with his overbite lol.. hahaha fags Dead End Hoe-Moes

  • @DigitalDevilXL Are you high or just stupid?

  • "you about to cry man" lmao

  • better*

  • beautiful album. the movement was very moving. their performance on jimmy fallon was great.

nothing matter than black thought bringing the hard hitting lyrics and questlove tearing the snare!!!!!!!

  • @TurTleTerp4517 better*

  • AY are some of the members of DEHH related? just curious

  • @mykectown I thought that the wolfpack was feefo's younger brothers.where the hell have they been. And Kinge is to old to be feefo's little brother, you're pulling our leg

  • @mykectown for real? I always thought Kinge was like 40 lol

  • @mykectown Not sure if you noticed but some of your comments are getting flagged for spam here.

  • @maalbe987 Haters gonna hate, man.

  • love the intro lol

  • UNC REPRESENT

    FEEFO

  • If you guys are fans of The Roots's live instrumentation, you should look into Animate Objects. Especially their album "Riding In Fast Cars With Your Momma".

  • i Want these guys to be the judges in a hip hop show, that would be crazy!

  • great review, agree with most it

i'm with anthony, i think the instrumentals would have been better spread out through the album, but maybe after some more listens, the four tracks will start to feel more like one piece/ending.

and Make My is definitely the best track, that outro is incredible.K.R.I.T and Black Though go the fuck offffff. the lighthouse is shit though, i have to fight the urge to skip that track everytime i listen to the album.

  • @Zachdudeio2 HAHAHAHH! What??!

  • @mykectown It sounds cool so I wrote it down

    -Baphomet MC

  • @Zachdudeio2 You are a Tool

  • @mandolinoh U mad?

  • @Zachdudeio2 u put MC Baphomet. Therefore you are a Tool

  • @mandolinoh I put Baphomet MC, thus I am Baphomet MC. Are you offended? Or just troll'n

  • @Zachdudeio2 I ain't trolling homie, go ahead and worship the Gay Ass "Baphomet". You must enjoy being a puppet for the illuminati. There are millions of other names you could have chose, yet you picked the dumbest one. SMFH

  • @mandolinoh THAT'S the reason you're mad? Really? First off; Why is my name 'gay'? Are you homophobic or something? Second; A puppet for the Illuminati? Could you PLEASE give me substantial evidence for the organization's present existence? I thought you were mad cause you perceived the post of my rap name as arrogant or something, haha moron.

  • @Zachdudeio2 Why do you have to go to insults. I am not insulting you yet........

  • @mandolinoh I can tell this conversation will VERY thought provoking and intelligent, unless it discontinues.

  • @Zachdudeio2 I don't know if you are trying to diss me, but on the reals homie if you got game on the mic, you should just switch your name up. I know that you know about hip hop, since you clicked on a 'Roots" related video. I'm not trying to diss you. I just think that clowns like Lady Gaga, Drake, Adele, Big Sean, Kanye, they all show illuminati ideations. That shit has to stop. I have never seen black thought giving props to any of that shit. Do something different man on the real.

  • @mandolinoh You keep assuming the illuminati exists. First you have to give me some evidence that it even does. Second; Calling myself a satanic diety is VERY different. Could you show me anyone of these pop artists that have a name like that? could you show that they worship the devil with substantiated evidence? Of course you haven't heard my lyrical content but it is very positive and you would agree with it. The name is cool, the illuminati doesn't exist, the popartists don't worship satan

  • @Zachdudeio2 then explain to me why is it that in every fucking video I see, Lady Gaga, posing as the Baphomet. why is Drake always doing his little hand gesture. It is out there these artists sell their souls for riches. Drakes father was in the jerry lee lewis band. and he admitted to seeing satanic rituals being done at jerry lee lewis' house. These guys are puppets. If you make it, just be yourself, switch the name. Baphomet gets no love in the underground. That is a fact.

  • @mandolinoh You must be isolated from reality son, my name does not reflect a liking towards the powers at be, which is not the god damn illuminati you still haven't made that case. Intelligent people understand this stuff, I do not intend to appeal to paranoid, religious people who believe without foundation/justification in the illuminati. Telling me to switch up my name cause you're close minded and paranoid is an insult.

  • @Zachdudeio2 You know what I take that back, I saw your channel and heard your rap (in the closet) of course and it was wack. Keep the name man. You are just another clown who can't get a job, and is trying to do what everyone else is doing which of course is rap. You wont make it buddy...... Bangs and Prophet from the voices from the frontline are better than you, and those two are the worst in the planet, until you showed up of course.

  • @mandolinoh Maturity is within this one, even at the age of 16 I am more sociable and respectable then you. AND you still have not given evidence of the Illuminati's existence.

  • @Zachdudeio2 Oh my bad man I'm sorry, if you are 16 then chances are.............. Damn!!!!!!!!! you are my son. I remember back in 94-95 I had that swing set, and I had your mother all to myself. At that time she was going through tough times with your step dad, (the clown that raised you) and my cock was the only therapeutic relaxation your mother had. I won't disrespect you anymore son. I'm sorry. I'm going to buy you a 3D plasma TV for your room. Merry X-mas

  • @mandolinoh Cognitive dissonance?

  • @Zachdudeio2 I see you know how to use wikipedia. Congratulations That's good son. Work on your grades and I promise you that 3D Plasma TV you have always asked that meth abusing, faggot step father for. I can't promise you a relationship with your mother, she is only a midnight flings for me, but I do promise you, I will be more involved in your life.

  • @mandolinoh The response of someone who had to look it up on Wikipedia to figure out its meaning. The personal attacks will serve you well in life, glad you could follow your dreams expressing already said criticisms on wack rappers such as lil wayne, comment on sports to an audience of 100 people, and insult cats on the internet with poorly thought out and unoriginal insults. you make up scenarios about me while all I have to do is tell the truth.

  • @Zachdudeio2 Why do you try to sound smart douche bag. Obviously I struck a nerve on your idiocy, because you comment on all my shit. Stupid idiot try graduating High School. Baphomet......... HA HA HA HA. I'm going to wear a Baphomet mask next time I sodomize your mother. Hopefully you walk in so you can see it. Maybe you will appreciate it even more. STUPID TROLL. Go rap inside the closet fucking HOMO.

  • @mandolinoh And my mere NAME struck a nerve in your idiocy.

  • @Zachdudeio2 Go munch foreskin and savor the smegma douche bag. Go join a cypher with Bangs & Prophet from Voices. Ignorant Fool.

  • @mandolinoh You haven't given evidence for the illuminatiiiii. you gotta tell me bout it. I don't want to insult you, I just want to find the truth

  • @Zachdudeio2 Oh and by the way Faggot I live a very comfortable life, with my Wife. unlike your step father and your whore bag mother (always in domestic disputes) I have a great realistic life...... you on the other hand are just a stupid idiot who thinks they are a rapper. ............. Geez how many of those are there in this world. and you claim to be smart. KILL YOURSELF. and your rap is Fucking garbage. green baby shit garbage.
