I don't see why there always has to be this Ozzy vs Dio thing going on. Not only were they both great in their own ways, but Sabbath was a much different band with Ronnie. And still great. They put out more classic stuff with the Oz, but Dio was a better singer technically. So I see no reason to play favorites on the Sabbath front. I'm happy there were both.
I totally agree with vahorologist Sabbath was much darker before Dio. But Dio in Rainbow was superb. Ozzy suited Sabbath style and set the benchmark for the band.
I`ve been listening Black Sabbath since I was 16...Now I`m much older. And I must say, that, although, the best line-up was with Ozzy, the next best singer for Sabbath is Tony Martin. Ironically I first heard Headless Cross with Martin. Dio is good enough, but not too good for Sabbath. The voice is too high-pitched for Sabbath. Tony Martin was a real asset for Sabbath, and I think, that was strictly a commercial consideration that led to replacing Martin with Dio. Now can they return him???

There will never be another RJD but this was Tony Martin at his finest! Let us also remember that Sabbath was still CREATING at this period instead of treading water like the OZZFEST shows! Iommi had a SOLID rhythm section in Powell and Murray.( Listen to the TYR album). Tony also put his spin on the Ozzy tunes but he was closer to Dio sound which works for me. Lol, it's a video with Tony Martin, and people still argue about Dio and Ozzy. Anyway, I saw Tony perform Headless Cross at the "Whole Lotta Metal" tour, and he was asweome. He sang with clear voice and it gave me goosebumps.
That's the Iommi;Powell;Murray and Martin line-up that made Headless Cross and Tyr. I always thought that Tony was living the dream when he was with Sabbath and even when they brought Dio back and did the shows with Ozzy he never complained because i think he thought he was lucky to be there in the first place.
It is indeed. Their Monsters Of Rock performance from this time was broadcast on the Radio1 rock show, still got a tape with some of that on it, including this song.

Lol, it's a video with Tony Martin, and people still argue about Dio and Ozzy. Anyway, I saw Tony perform Headless Cross at the "Whole Lotta Metal" tour, and he was asweome. He sang with clear voice and it gave me goosebumps.

That's the Iommi;Powell;Murray and Martin line-up that made Headless Cross and Tyr. I always thought that Tony was living the dream when he was with Sabbath and even when they brought Dio back and did the shows with Ozzy he never complained because i think he thought he was lucky to be there in the first place.
