Actually the squeal is because of the low drive tension, which reduces the amount of force the tire can exert against the platform's rim. Pause at 0:28 when the turret comes around, you'll see a tiny amount of contact between the tire and the rim.
This may be on purpose. Since this ride is a classic that people already know well, sometimes you need to add something to give it a thrill level like the newer rides. Abrupt start/stops (and maybe the tire squeal) heighten the riders' experience.

@jess4metoo Yeah, the ride op kind of needs to slow the wheel down before changing direction. I thought it was kind of funny though. lol
