Visual might be boring, but the words are very beautiful and powerful. anyone who appreciates literature and words, I'm sure they'll love this PSA. :)
i wonder if @efxtive even knows any of Yasmin's commercials at all. because she did portray Malays, Chinese and Indians in her commercials no matter what festive. if you did watch any of her commercials, then you've forgotten her too soon and you insult her legacy. and to say people in the kampung won't understand the english 1) you think too lowly of kampung people. they are a lot more educated than you think. 2) there is a Malay version which i'm sure even kampung people will know how to find.
simple, poignant, symbolic, empowering, awe-inspiring. Ask not what Petronas can do to entertain you, but reflect upon what you (and your hands) have done for those who matter to you.
Despite of all the negative comments about this TVC, I love it! To me it has substance and values..deep meaning..Unlike the normal fun fun hari raya TVC
@fahlizs It doesn't? Love, perseverance, compassion and forgiveness? Isn't hari raya about these values?
Surface visuals like kampungs, fireworks and green does not work for me. Besides it is also for merdeka. Anyway Selamat Hari Raya. Drive safe if u r traveling.
Yeah...this year show hands...next year show legs...another 3 years more show your secret part (dont ever ignore the importancy of those parts of our body, they too have their functions especially the secret parts :)...without it, the hand, the legs, the brain, your father...your mother wouldnt exist! Im I right?...) Soo..which part more important? hahaha...
I like it. Whenever a Petronas ad comes out, people tend to compared what Yasmin done. There will never be another Yasmin ad and we have to learn to move on. I think that's what this new ad from Petronas did exactly. It's totally different but yet stand out as it's own. Well done Petronas!
I'm proud and glad that I was part of this project. I hope people can open up their hearts bigger to see the commercial for what it is and not expect what they want. I would like to thank everyone that were involved in this project. Thank you.
@yltan07 Leo Burnett is an ad agency...of course they'll ask their staff, their staff friends, even their father n mother to vote...just to appraise their works n to secure future jobs! It called ADVERTISING AGENCY...duhh...
@efxtive well I used to work there. Sorry we don't secure jobs like that. We do it by trying to do great powerful work. Some times we do but most time they are ordinary. Rezeki tu di tangan tuhan. We just try our best. At the end of the day when accounts are up for review, a lot of factors are taken into account. Finance. Service. Work. Relationships. Agency can never bluff the client. They are smart people. Well 22 years in the industry is a pretty long time. Anyway Selamat Hari Raya. Peace.
Atleast...the narrator should speak in Bahasa...not English with slang!...U think kampung people can understand meh? We malays all balik kampung not staying at city..I hope the old folks in kampung can understand this message! Otherwise they will just agak2 that this TVC for MERDEKA and not RAYA!...Basic common sense laa woi!..
I hope petronas dont give all the job for hari raya to leo burnett...give a chance to other agencies as well...leo burnett is down without yasmin...hari raya is for malays...chinese new year for chinese...and deepavali for indians...dont mess this scene up! stick to the identity! merdeka is for all...sooo...this commercial is for merdeka not hari raya! whats sooo raya if just showing hands...i know what this video wanna project...but its lame to the ass...not projecting hari raya at all!...
@efxtive Sorry efxtive. I totally disagree with you. Leo Burnett is not down without Yasmin. In fact, it has won a number of new account since her passing. Samsung, Proton, Petronas and a host of smaller clients. This is because Yasmin and Ali has laid a strong foundation with the right people in place. We will see how this goes in the future as the agency is now at its biggest.
@efxtive Yasmin, LB and Petronas believes that all malaysian festivals should be appreciated by all Malaysians be it Raya, CNY or Deepavali. That's why Petronas stories are very human. It appeals to all. People all over the world appreciate our commercials. Regardless of race. They are stories for humanity. Not Malay, Chinese or Indian. This is the identity of the human race.
just talking about hands, petronas turned it into a brilliant artwork. don't bother telling those people who doesn't get it , they doesn't posses the ability to read using the heart. aidilfitri is not just forgivenes, it's also about appreciation, to the people we love, people around us and of course to the God
I am not a Malay but I know that Hari Raya is not only for celebration but also a time for forgiveness. Did this ad not portrayed that perfectly? Please stop saying you guys are neglected. I think this ad is wonderful and made by the late Yasmin Ahmad (god bless her soul)'s husband. :) Just enjoy this video for what it is.
@mikihoh892112 you think hari raya is just for forgiveness? hari raya is mostly towards the celebration after ramadhan month - puasa. after we puasa...then we do what? WE CELEBRATE!!!...is that hard to understand?what if when chinese new year, petronas show people dying?, people suicide because of gambling? (eventhough its reality).it doesnt jive at all!.A good commercial is a commercial that raisen up the mood for celebration...not downgrade the mood! Thats why I say this TVC is SUCK BIG TIME!
Booooring...Leo Burnett no idea already. We want to see kampung scenes...we want to feeeeel Hari Raya after puasa for the whole 1 month! Not looking at the hands and thinking what hand can do to/for you...If hari raya...just show hari raya laa...To wrap it up!...This is not a good commercial...We Malays dont think we are celebrated in this Hari Raya 2011...we have been neglected with this stupid commercial!!!
@efxtive Isn't Hari raya about love, kindness and forgiveness. It is all there in the film. Is hari raya just about kampung scenes and coconut trees. Surely it's got to be more then the very surface visuals you mentioned.
@efxtive I am sure there are other commercials that show the scenes you wanna see. Why so hateful? Puasa batal lah. In the past Petronas Commercials have also avoid clique Raya scenes. Remember the man walking in the rain. Then the car accident. No raya scenes at all. I think the feeling of the film is very raya and merdeka. It is a very contemplative film.
@awigerrard There will never be another Yasmin Ahmad. She is one in a million. The most brilliant creative I have ever worked with and the kindness human being i have ever known.
@jennychongshiai It is all about doing good for raya and for merdeka. For raya it is forgiveness. For merdeka it is independence. Our hands will chart the course of our lives and of our country. Simple really.
One of the pair of hands in this ad belongs to my father. It doesn't have my father's face, but I know those hands are his. Those hands are the hands that he used to carry me, hands that held mine as we crossed roads, hands that disciplined me when i was wrong and later stroked my head with it explaining his actions, hands that worked hard to put food on our dining table hands that still touch my face when i go back to see him once a week. Those dirty, calloused hands are my father's hands.
