  • This was such a powerful scene, it really captures the relationship between both of the characters. I totally think the infernal affairs is way better than the Departed. American movies tend to be all about action, no strong plot lines or character development like they have in infernal affairs.

  • Infernal Affairs started it all with the story but the Departed was better in terms of technical film making and dialogue IMO both are great!

  • @TCX559 Ummm no. You're only saying that because you didn't understand the dialogue cause it was in Cantonese. You would never of picked up on the witty dialogue if you don't know Cantonese Slang.

  • @kassi420 I can read subtitles though...to each his own I enjoyed the Departed for my own various reasons and you enjoyed Infernal Affairs for your own

  • This scene was more meaningful than the departed death scene...More sadness to it. In the departed it was like oh shit and then running away in the car

  • just started watching all these foreign language films after living abroad...they are so much better :D

  • A NICE Chinese song

  • his acting was awesome!!!

  • My typo:

My problem with Departed is the racism in built in the movie, apart from its dumb script. I could not forgive oscar wrongly announced that the movie was a japanese adaptation.

  • My problem with Departed is the racism in built in the movie, apart from its dump script. I could not forgive oscar wrongly announced that the movie was a japanese adaptation.

  • thank you very much

  • @Jellyfish60 This is the kind of stuff I expect from a clearly americanized person. hope wanes...

  • what is the name of the song

  • Tony Leung is a great actor. Until now I didn't even know that Departed was an American adaption. Not that I would want to watch it because I don't. I own this movie because it is a great movie.

  • DEPARTED IS FUCKING AMI SHIT!!!

Infernal Affairs is one of the best movies ever!!!

  • the mandarin has ruined the whole footage........ i still can't understand why our mainland chinese brothers in China cannot accept to watch movies in its original - Cantonese

  • @fatcowie Cuz Us mainlanders dont speak cantonese, we speak mandarin. If u want to sell ur movie then u better translate it. if u like the original version then watch the original, upload a original.

  • @AnjuABCDE There's such a thing called subtitles. You watch Japanese movies untranslated, Korean movies untranslated, American movies un-freakin-translated. Cantonese is *our* language. You want to buy our movies, then you better watch it the way it's meant to be, or make your own subtitles.

Good day to you, mainland "brother".

  • Why the fuck is this in Mandarin?

  • 2 mins 7 seconds? And not a single f-bomb? I am Leonardo Di Caprio, and don't approve this.

  • @xdiesp ahaha. you are the king of the world. :p

  • I feel so sad........

  • The highlight of the Hong Kong film industry since 2000.

  • i cant get enough from asian gangster movies..theyre just sooo special epic good in a way...u know what i mean?haha

  • @mistersuko

Especially of Hong Kong gangster film, many other asian movie was copy from it.

  • man, Infernal Affairs is so good. +100

  • great film, still probably the best hk film we've had in the last 10 years

  • I saw this a little later after I watched the Departed. Man oh man, this movie was extremely better. To me, the Departed just wanna fuck this over! Sure they had the best actors, but man this one just fuckin own the Departed.

Best scene hands down. Love how this went down!

  • Tony is a great actor forever !!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie has proven that tony is god on screen. his facial expression speaks for itself. great actor.

  • @sweetsexylife

tony leung rocks, even in a film like hard boiled his emotion stole it how he played the haunted under cover cop

  • does anybody have a link to download this song? i cant find it

  • thye best movie for me till today

  • this is my favourite scene and music, all time im so touching

  • exactly i agree with the uploader, departed is just not emotional enough, it didn't reflect the feelings of the 2 under covers, the whole movie is suppose to be about how 2 under covers don't want to be in their position and how they are suffering. The departed totally missed the point by making it funny. They made leonardo decaprio a coward who's scared to die instead of a undercover who just want to be a good guy.

  • As everyone keeps saying, The Departed does lack these moments. Just compare this song to the Dropkick Murphy's from Departed and you basically have the difference between them.

But The Departed had Leo di Caprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson so of course it won an oscar anyway

  • @Kydos37 i think that The Departed gave an American aspect to the story. It was cold and mean, which turned out great.

  • the song is by some hungarian chior which is the critical component for making it a touching story, criticaly missing in departed lol.

  • This is my favouite scene. This is best scene.

  • the best scene in chinese movie history that is

  • Cantonese movie history i think

  • Does anyone know where I can find a version of this song translated into english?

  • tony leung is one of the top 5 actors on earth... i'm not even asian and i have to admit this... the first time i saw him was in this movie, completely blown away by his performance

  • best thing i ever heard

  • yeh emotional as. anyone kno the soundtrack?

  • I assume when you say "the look" it was from 1:02 to 1:10, right?

I agree, that expression was just...wow! No need for words, it's that powerful and amazing. Kudos to Tony Leung

  • This scene reconfirms everything alot of us already knew-

    Tony pwns all <3

  • gtfo my boyfriend.

But seriously, it's true, that look = nailed.

  • Awesome movie ever. awesome Tony Leung. So sexy.. Love him.

  • the departed never came close

  • SP wong is da great man.... Great song too...

  • my all time FAVOURITE scene in a movie

tony leung is such an underated actor, i think he is one of the best of our generation

(and i'm not even asian) :D

couldn't agree with this statement more: "the absence in the American adaptation the Departed lacks to a serious fault. Just look at the look on Tony Leung's face... "

  • This made me want to cry my eyes out..

  • I actually felt what Tony felt when Wong died. In the departed I felt nothing when Martin Sheen's character died.....nothing

that's the difference between the two films.......heart

  • Yeah I guess that´s true. The difference between the 2 movies can be best captured by the 2 songs, "GOODBYE POLICEMAN" in this one, and " SHIPPING UP TO BOSTON" in The Departed. Just two completely different feels.

  • @SADLIFEproductions

“The departed” is a shit movie, don't compare to this film

  • @SADLIFEproductions I hate it when Hollywood tries to steal movies from Asia... it just shows they're lack of Ideals of making films.. matt damon sucks anyways..

  • @SADLIFEproductions

I completely agree. Watching this trilogy touched me more than other movies have.

  • @SADLIFEproductions everyone knows cop goto hell when they die

  • @SADLIFEproductions

    i agree.

i blame how the film was made. in the Asian version, Both characters built up a relationship. In the US version, it was basically good cop, bad cop (Wahlberg)

  • @SADLIFEproductions damn straight

  • gosh tony is superb!! wen i watch this scene, its like i could feel what he's feeling too

  • I think the crappy quality of this video kills the emotion, haha.

  • more pain now that hes married !

  • The thing for me is the look on Tony leung's face, the fear and pain etched and so perfectly crafted. A real touching moment.

  • well lets see his face now that hes married !

  • So true.

  • I recorded this on tv because i thought it was a different film and i have never seen it on tv again. Only for that slim chance i never would have seen my favourite film ever.

Tony's acting is fantastic here, this scene is done brilliantly.

  • beautiful scene, sad but beautiful

  • Anthony Wong won the best supportive actor and Tony Leung won the best actor award. My favorite scene....

  • This is one of my most impressive movie scenes.

  • Why this film is better than The Departed:

The deaths of Billy and Queenan were not emphasised enough. Their deaths to me is like saying "there dead, end of discussion"

whereas in this you have time to take in what has happened and you feel bad for Yan when he dies and when Wong dies also with the brilliant choice of music and slow motion and flashbacks

  • yes...this scene really captures Tony leung's emotional struggle...when he realized his officer died...i even feel tears in my eyes and sorry for him...with the background music and his acting...expressions... =(

  • what version is this ?

  • PLease ??!

    Name Of This Song??!!

  • Why do people have to do remakes of classic films? I wont watch the USA version (only just found out they have made it...PAH)

  • I saw this one before the departed, and I do like it alot more, but give scorcese a chance man, it stands on its own for an american crime story.

  • Scorcese has made some great movies, I give him credit for those; but let's face it: he failed in this one. "Departed" won Oscar awards just because it was a "Scorcese film", not because it deserved them. "Departed" lacked all the characters depth, well-worked plot and quality that make "Infernal Affairs" such a great movie.

  • Fair enough. I agree departed wasn't nearly as good as infernal affairs. And you're right, it did win because it was a scorcese film,i can't say it definetly didn't deserve it because i forget what was in the same category. But i did like the little addition at the end of scorcese's version where whalberg kills the bad cop damon.Which brings up another thing i did enjoy in this version that wasn't in the original, humor, whalberg and baldwin were reasonably entertaining with the boston language.

  • The addition in Scorcese's film wasn't really an addition, and you know why? Because he "planted" part of "Infernal Affairs III" there. That was another unfortunate moment where all the killings didn't make sense since there were scenes cut -- scenes that had to explain a few things. You know of course the original film is a trilogy, right?

The jokes were there too, although in a lower scale; but the boston language not. Guess why? It was a HK film.

  • yeah i knew it was a trilogy, i haven't seen the others tho, are they worth checkin out?

  • In my opinion, yes. If you're interested in characters' background, the reasons behind actions, their motives and what happens *after* Chan's death, it's worth watching. The Buddhist sayings at the beginning and end will make far more sense. Hope you'll enjoy it.

  • It wasn't an addition it was the IA alternate ending given in the dvd

  • whats up? my bad, i just don't remember what i typed that you're responding too.

  • last time i think an american audience responded to a thinking film with a complicated plot, was i think...wizard of oz...a bit before my time...so that says it all.

as i said scorcese isnt some brain surgeon either...just an ordinary pwrson who knows how to shoot gangster films for simple people in america...sont expect much from him or an american audience..

  • it is true that scoresese did all those things.

    but guess what ?

these movie people arent brain surgeons.

they merely try to make a buck.

they try to reflect what an american audience would like and go to see.

have you ever seen an american respond to a thinking film?

a film with emotion and a complicated plot?

come to american.see the people, and you will see why hk and japan are mixed up.

you will see why shooting the bad guys is as complicated as a plot can get.

  • Scorsese ruined a perfectly brilliant script, adding excessive violence and graphic content where it wasn't needed. Subsequently, when he won his Oscars, he never even thanked Infernal Affairs screenwriters, Chong & Mak, and then called it "an adaption of a JAPANESE film".

    Eh, its Hong Kong!

Despite its story, this scene is beautiful and shows that the characters were originally supposed to be empathetic, complex & morally conflicted.

What is morally conflicted about Matt Damon? Makes me sick!

  • the impression i got from the departed when i watched it was that it was alot more light hearted than IA. You notice this in a lot of the dialogue between the characters. In IA, though there was also some humourous moments, it was predominantly more dramatic and suspenseful with scenes such as this. Overall i would prefer IA, reason being it seem to capture more of the essence of the film's issue, although i found the departed quite enjoyable too

  • or they could have said,

:S P Wong, looks like Kentucky Fried Chicken mashed potatoes with ketchup.

    anything other than that line.

anyway apart from that it is a great film.

better than the yankee doodle dandy version i am afraid.

i dont want to sound unpatriotic, but the truth be told.

  • great scene. awsome music too. very dramatic.

  • IA is better by far.

And one thing Departed didn't have.. Tony Leung.

That guy can act. See his face when the his mentor lands on the car. You could believe he is feeling that emotion.

  • i agree indeed this one is a great film. the departed was such a let down. who says that only hollywood produces great film ha? andy lau and tony leung are better than di caprio and matt damon.

  • i like the line ,,,"something happened to SP WONG"..the guy is lying in blood obviously dead...i mean what the fuck...surely another line could have been used here...such as,,,"SP WONG is fucken DEAD"..

  • "something happened to SP WONG"..the guy is lying in blood obviously dead...i mean what the fuck...surely another line could have been used here...such as,,,"SP WONG is fucken DEAD"..

yeah, lol. I sometimes think we Hong-Kongers have a knack for understatement.

  • The problem is (for most of us - no idea if you speak cantonese, although I'm guessing you can as you say 'we' Hong-Kongers) the translation. I've seen the movie with dutch, french and english subtitles, and in many scenes (such as this one) there is a slight, but significant change in the translation.

  • yeah, that's true. Even when the translation is actually correct, however, certain words have different connotations and cultural meaning and even if you get it right, it carries a totally different tone.

  • The funny thing is in the German dubbing they translated the sentence with: "something went wrong"!

That doesn't sound THAT cheesy! hahahaha....

  • ha ha ha.not as cheesy, but just as innaprpropriate.the guy was thrown off the building and there was a major shoot out in broad day light..something more dramatic than that would be appropriate..!

    anyway,a great movie.i love it.

  • doesnt translate well lol

  • this is a great film.

the departed simply doesnt have that level of emotional intensity

i wonder how many on the film set have slept with gillian chung?

  • Departed > this lolemo version IMO.

  • WTF is this SONG!!!!!!!!! tell meee noww plzzzzz

  • same here lol i've been searching for this song likes YEARS now =/

  • found it ^^ its call Raud - Goodbye Policman

  • Internal affairs is better than the departed. I just can't see why people prefer the remake.

  • I think the Chinese one is better!!!

  • Good scene and great music...

  • IA is the original, and it worked on a low budget.

  • But I still feel that "The Departed" is the superior film.

"Infernal Affairs" is still great though. :)

  • love the movie, love this song, love hong kong!

infernal affairs is the most awesome movie ever!

just why did you post a mandarin version? it should be in canto!

  • i think the acting in this one is better than the departed, but the departed have larger sets and stuff to see... but i love the ending of IA more

  • the hongkong version kicks the departed's ass.

this movie's got the right feel to it

    it's just indescribably good

best movie series ever!!!!! (infernal affairs 1,2,and 3)

  • i like IA but the departed is nearly as good just has a different feel, and ppl sould not think that non asians can't appreciate good asian films.

  • why the hell people keep uploading HONG KONG movies in Mandarin?? WTF?

  • departed was such a crap movie, i'd rather watch 2:08 minutes of this movie than the whole of departed

  • I love the look on Tony's face.

  • No one else notices it was in Mandarin instead of Cantonese, shows where the real fans are :)

  • You IA fans irritate me, as a fellow Asian myself I do not see why we can't love both movies. Now I understand some of you have legit reasons for people that love The Departed that you hate. (Mostly because they hate subtitles) Anyway I think we should try to stop making us real IA fans embarassed by you jackasses claiming to be fans of the movie shove it down everyone's throats

  • Hmmm. yeah I probably should. I cut this out originally for my own use 'cos I really really liked the scene (lol) so I didn't feel like putting the other plot things in...anyway I'll see if I have the time.

  • This was the most heart-wrenching part in the entire movie for me. But one way it could be better was if you added more information. You could include the part where Yan asks SP Wong how he's going to escape and he says he's taking the elevator. Then we see him get on the elevator and just as the doors are closing, the gangsters come back and recognize him. And then you have the scene of him falling off the building. This way, people will feel all the shock and the sorrow that Yan felt.

  • anyone who appreciates film knows that Infernal Affairs is the better movie, but i guess its hard for non Asians to understand the spiritual meaning in IA.

  • This scene made me bawl the first time I watched it! And watching it again makes me teary eyed. =(

  • Ah, seems Scorsese made the correction in the Academy awards. Good for him.

Anyway I feel what made this part so moving here was that if you were watching this the first time you'd be experiencing the same emotions (shock & irritationg -> surprise & recognition -> stunned realisation) Tony portrayed, cued precisely with the music. The loss of human life is felt acutely here, especially when you were not prepared for this (no lame scene of the cop falling in slo-mo).

  • @MhMacLeod I agree. Scorsese's version telegraphed everything far too much and ended on a rather undramatic *splat* style that seemed almost crass.

  • With the recent copying of Dark Water, Ju-On, the Ring, Il Mare; "...while Hollywood will ransack Asian films for ideas, it is not likely to accept Asian films on Asian terms."

    Bottom Line? I quote:

"...Maybe they want to send you a message. If you really want to go further, maybe a remake of your film will be a success. But your original movie, it's something they don't accept."

  • Some thoughts I got from a recent paper: IA was HK's offering to the Oscars on 2002 & it never even made the shortlist while Departed, which Alan Mak felt was a betrayal to the script, blew away audiences.

Also: IA was declared in 2 different sources to be both Japanese & Korean. Its creators called the organisers of the Oscars for an explanation.

    Pfah.

  • way better than the departed. if u think about it, all the good scenes from the departed were taken almost directly from IA. Even the part where Nicholson smashes DiCaprio's arm on the table was from IA.

  • That scene was ruined by the flashbacks and slow-mo, too unrealistic. Although Tony Leung's performance is absolutely amazing.

  • This is poetry in motion! Anyone know what the lyrics to the song mean?

  • VERY signature all right. Fantastic work by Tony Leung.

  • Although I think Departed was better this scene was done better in IA

  • Hey, if you can't appreciate other cultures, why don't you stick your fat ass back into your stinky couch and watch porn and jerk off, you fucking loser? Don't waste time and space here.

  • Haha. Kinda stressed aren't we? Chill out mate.

  • If you're really good, you can notice that there is a slight goof with this scene.

  • you can see the wires on anthony wong when he falls onto the taxi. is that it?

  • God, all I hear is bashing of The Departed it's really getting annoying and plus I think IA should've been a bit longer to flesh out it characters more. But The Departed is better than Ia by a hair

  • u do know IA is a 3 part movie right?

  • IA 1 - Everything Present Happens

IA 2 - The Past is explained

IA 3 - How it concludes

  • u noe whats annoying. sorcese getting all the crdit while he basically just copied a better, superior movie. infernal affairs blows the departed away in cinematography, acting , and suspense. tonly leaung, andy lau > damon, dicaprio, and marky mark

  • You know what's annoying? When people can't spell shit, and they begin to rant

  • I like how Tony Leung and Anthony Leung had kind fo a father/son relationship, something The departed failed to accomplish only because of the unnessesary role by Mark Walberg. Infernal Affair is 100 times better. The ending in The departed was ridiculouse.

  • anyone knows the name of this sad song?

  • search "infernal affairs mysterious music" on youtube, and look for the comment by ...the only person to reply to it lol

  • Tony says more with his eyes than most actors do in a whole movie. I still really liked "The Departed", though, and I thought Leo was excellent in his role.

  • infernal affairs made good use of one thing that the departed failed to utilse to good effect, the use of silence. Tony Leung and company said more with less words. That's the allure. The movie also didn't made as much humour out of every death like the departed did. But overall, the departed was a nice effort by scorsese, jack nickelson and leonardo.

  • i also think the Morse code used in the original Infernal Affairs as communication between Tony Leung and Anthony Leung was brilliant because it really made the movie more suspenseful. Too bad...

  • i agree. i wouldn't have minded if the Departed just copied this scene directly. This scene was my favorite. Infernal Affairs is the one and only...

  • Yeah, they really needed to have Martin Sheen land on a car or something. Having him just hit the ground lessened the impact (no pun intended). I still liked The Departed a lot, though.

  • After seeing both films. This movie is by far the superior in every sense. The acting is more convincing and this scene sums it up, this is heartbreaking were Martin Sheen's had really no impact at all.
