Yep all of my previous parrots would bathe in their water when the vacuum came out. They all soaked their food too lol I had a sulphur crested cockatoo, shamrock macaw, blue crown conure and blue front amazon.
All of our birds do the same thing! We always change their water immediately before vacuuming otherwise they give themselves a stinky shower! Speaking of which, does Coco soak his food in his water too??
He soaks his vitamins. He loves the green ones regardless of brand. I wish we could find only green vitamins. Any advice? He also likes to soak wood in his water. We give him wood to chew up and he chips it off and sometimes places in his water...the other time he hides his wood in newspaper at the bottom of his cage. He is too funny. :)
I understand your thoughts about pets in prison; however, this bird was going to be given to a flea market to be sold...so I look at him as being very lucky to have a home where he is very much loved. He can't be released in the wild because they are not indigenous to the US. This is a better option for him, at least we think so. Sorry, you feel differently.
No, Coco does not have a partner. He is very content living the way he is living. I suppose one could look at him as wanting a partner, but he seems very happy the way he is. He is curious and likes to climb on things, but for all of these comments about needing a partner, I am not so sure. They are cuddly birds and quite possesive, I don't know how he would act if there were two. :)
Maybe you just don't want go let CoCo have partner... A need to have partner is very strong - does not matter if it's human or if it's bird or dog...
On other video I see CoCo is... looking for relation with cat, but... Cat seems to... You know - Is it good idea to leave no other option to the animal, than relation parrot-cat? Why don't you try to give CoCo a partner, Or maybe you don't wanna do that, because you want to have control?
Ha, u are a funny one. I am so not a control person. Coco fell into our laps. I am not going to actively search out another bird. He is happy and that is that.
He is not looking for anything with Lucky either. He was simply feeling his fur. It must feel strange to him since he has feathers. If u watch other videos u will see that he does the same thing with H2O in the tub. He likes to sit on top of tables, perches & laps. Nothing more.
I don't think you know anything about parrots at all or you wouldn't have posted such an inane comment. Anyone who has spent time with captive raised parrots know if they get the attention & love with their human flock they are very happy. It makes me crazy when people who have no idea about captive birds spout off. That is the reason so many pet birds need to be rescued, people have no clue what it takes. This lady does. Good job Gay! I am glad to see how happy Coco is.
I understand the partner thing. Yes, most species have an internal need for a partner. He might like that, but at this time, I am not going to actively search for another bird. Most importantly, I don't have the room and it would not be fair to anyone to do that.
They were all rescued. I searched for one of the dogs at a shelter. Then a mean man was going to put to sleep five 10 day old puppies. We were able to save all but one, which died. We gave two away and kept two, couldn't find a home. The last dog was given to us because the owner had some strokes and was unable to keep the animal. The 3 cats: 1 was found at about 3 days old, no mother, the other two rescused from imminent death. Does that make sense?
Coco does not need a partner, I have been watching these videos and you are doing a great job fulfilling Cocos social and emotional needs. SO for this guy saying he needs a partner, you are wrong. Obviously Coco is happy & well adjusted, as you can tell by his gentleness and NO feather plucking. If this bird wasn't happy & healthy you would be able to see it.
I have a female Umbrella cockatoo she was rescued and is in great health now. Wacky does the same thing when I vacuum or do the dishes
I have raised many many parrots and they are perfectly happy with their human relationships. They may get antsy at breeding season but a captive raised bird never having known living in the wild it isn't a big deal.
I really think you know what you are doing with Coco I have been researching and caring for different kinds of parrots for 20 years now & I say KUDOS! to you Gay, Keep up the good work and don't worry about people like David here, who doesn't even know how to spell 'kakadu' ?? Geeze
Wow Fuzzy, I am so happy to hear your comments. That is exactly what I was thinking. I am proud of you for your research over the past 20 years. That is awesome!
I am so passionate about parrots and their proper care & felt if I was going to help people understand just how much it takes to have a parrot for a companion then I had to find out as much as I could about their needs. Nutritionally, emotionally etc... I just love them all, and if you love something that much you do what you can. I appreciate your compliment hon, I do it for them.
LOL, but not the weirdest ive ever seen. You know those taps that you turn a leaver for on and off? I have a friend who videos his parrot using them to have a shower, turning it on himself. Funny enough same pattern, when ever the vacuum s on, if the cage is open.
I read in 'Cockatiels for Dummies' that many parrots will react to the sounds of the vacuum the same way they would react to hearing thunder. They think it's about to rain so they go through their bathing motions.
Your bird's voice sounds just like mine! It's funny how birds of the same species tend to sound almost identical. Mine doesn't get in the water when the vacuum runs (because he has a water bottle), but he does go nuts!
Bizarre bizarre. My Congo African Grey does the same EXACT thing. Vacuum time, is time to take a wade in the dipping pool water bowl and flick water all over the place. I wonder what that's all about with hookbills in captivity. Maybe there is something in the wild that happens to trigger the bathing instinct (like a noise or something).
lol my grey is the same way; gets really excited durning vacuuming or when I take a shower. She gets very vocal. lol What is it about trying to take a bath in such a tiny water bowl? Bobbie gets her chest wet and basically makes a wet mess, lol.

Why it is like so? Maybe it is something with sound of tropical rain, I really don't know.
I don't think it's funny, because I don't like pet-toys, I don't like to put pet's in prison and make them my toys...

OK, I understand, that human also uses animals for his... joy.
Tell me Sister: Does CoCo have partner (parrot not human or cat)? If not, then why not? I see CoCo behaves, like he/she want to have partner.

Btw, your english is pretty good. I am impressed.

But do you agree or disagree, that birds, as well as human beings as well as other mammals, have strong need to have partner??
Human + parrot + cat can't truthly replace partnership with the same species animal...
Why don't you try to introduce other kakadu to the CoCo, and then you can say what CoCo wants?

So you see Sister: problably the reason of your choice is, that this will be better for you to leave things just as they are.
No big deal, but maybe CoCo would be more happy with partner.
Tell me one more thing if you want to:
Why do you have these animals?
