@scorpietta It was a wonderful show, and Michael Landon was the brainchild behind it. The '70s shows LHOTP and The Waltons embraced the "forgotten American ideals" of the pioneer days and Great Depression. The two shows were not alike, other than being about families facing adversity, but were often compared to one another. I think The Waltons had better writing and acting overall, but Little House had Landon. You can't top that. :)
I loved Mrs Oleson's laugh and crying. Katherine M is an amazing actress! In 2011 we need ANY new shows like this; not all this Reality TV crap:( LHOTP will always appeal to all audiences and life lessons. May God Bless Michael Landon, cast and crew. Thanks SO much for this 3 part vid:)
I started watching LHOP in the early 90s and fell in love with it. I wasn't born yet when it first aired in 1974 (I was born in 1977). I'm on my 3rd season, episode 4 as of today -08/17/2010. OMG! I still hate Mrs. Oleson and Nellie :)
My favorite character in the show is Melissa Gilbert, but I loved Melissa Sue Anderson! This show is one that I will always look back to as the world we all live in becomes more hectic and out of control. Don't think they had nuclear weapons back then getting in the hand of some evil and determined dictators, did they? Times were tough, but times are tougher today. People believed and live by the Bible in those days... it would do the world good to back to the Bible these days.
@GreatestSingerEver01 I agree with you. My favourite series was and still is Little House on the Prairie!!!
Also I think it would be great, if Laura and Merry were my sisters. I feel a specific sympathy to them, based on character similarity especially to the first one.
overthehoop - Nellie Oleson cracked me up! Her and Laura kept me laughing! I loved it when Laura pushed that mean ole Nelly down the mountain in a wheel chair! Hilarious! Nellie was sooooo mean, but she was such a great part of the show. This is my most favorite TV show, ever!
The oleson family were completely fictitious. Mr. 0leson was only mentioned once in "The Little House In The Big Woods". Mrs. Wilder said he ran an Indian trading post and credits him with killing a bear in mortal combat, although the editor put a footnote in the tome saying it's more likely the bear killed 0leson in reality inspite of Wilder's claim.
0h well, at least Mr. 0leson got a pretty wife in the series even if she was nasty as a bear.
Hey casting director on here! My acting teacher told OTHER CLASSES that I was 'the one' also, the 'minute I opened my mouth', she told the other classes, that I had a great voice, like a "Richard Burton". Of course, she never told ME this. She told her other classes about me. A fellow student told me so.
Oh my gosh, when Mrs. Oleson flushed that toilet, I still laugh! ONly Mrs. Oleson can make things difficult!

They didn't speak about Jonathan Gilbert and how he won the role of Willie Oleson.

I like when she calls Dabbs Greer "great." That was un-understatement for a man like him. He was one of the greatest character actors in history.

This is true. After the series ended, the Nellie actress Alison Arngrim spent a few years as an XXX porn star.
