Looks like it beats Z-Brush (wasted $400 for my version) easily in functionality and USER FRIENDLINESS with a WORKABLE USER INTERFACE right off the bat.
This is a very old video actually. There have been vast improvements in all areas including a completely new and improved interface. You should check it out at 3d-coat (dot) com
@SupaPoopaScoopa You don't get it Supa... All these programs are TOOLS, NOTHING MORE. Your almost fighting about what tool to use, when people in the end can't tell which tool was used to create what. It's the artist that matters, not the tools. People have made amazing stuff 10 years ago when programs like these didn't exist.
You'd be surprised what programs are used in the industry compare to the fan boy attitude most people have about each individual program.
You think I don't know it the main factor is the artist?!
As much as I do 3d I prefer 2d artist work, becuase it''s more expressive. It's a lesson I know well. Don't assume I don't know that, just becuase I'm comparing tools. Obviously different tools have different DESIRABLE effects, thats what the discussion is about! You can use a fork to screw in a screw, but it doesn't make it a good idea when you have a screwddriver in your tool box.
BTW I am currently working on a project where the client specifically E-Mailed me saying that he had seen my 3D-Coat work and would like to hire me to do some 3DC work for him. He said he would do it himself in 3D-Coat but doesn't have the time. I was paid 100% in advance and now I'm just finishing up my work on the project (a TV pilot).
Your orginal post sounded like you where saying poeple paid you to use 3dcoat, not that they paid you for you 3dcoat work. You can see how that was confusing.
That's exactly what I was talking about. Voxel sculptures don't have to be dense to get the good quality I'm seeing. Sure I own it, but I used mudbox and zbrush quite a lot before buying 3DC. zb has a few nice features, but my clients pay me for my 3DC work.
It's kind a silly to even have this vid up anymore since it's so ancient. If you use a nice workflow there's no reason to step down the geometry. Plus once you move to polygons then your geometry gets stepped way down while retaining your detail. So it's even better than just stepping down.
I didn't mean the video, I meant 3dcoat's tools need speeding up ^^
With the volumtric stuff there seems to be alot of hype around it. It has the down side of jumping in at a really high resolution... which means spending x2 along just going over it to smooth the bumps out

Hehe, your clients pay you for your 3dcoat work? I'd like to hear you explain that one?
Why, do you have to send them 3dcoat format files?!
... & If your talking about quality the, 2 opposing galleries speak more for them selfs, than this debate could ever.
Don't get me wrong 3dc is fantastic. But it's far from a Zbrush beater.

Like InsaneTK said, which I agree, it's the artwork not the tool.

I'm not talking about optimising - which zbrush also does better - I am talking about workflow.
Fact:- Voxels uses dense meshes
Fact:- Reforming dense meshes is alot hard.
Just compare the move tool in Voxels to the move tool in Zbrush
I know you'll swear by 3dcoat being better, no matter what. I've seen you again and again defend 3dcoat on other forums, obvously because you own it.
It's not the tool but the work that you can do thats counts!
Let go :p

Well in Zbrush with the ability to step down and modifty simple geometry, it's obviously much easier to modify the form of a mesh.
If 3Dcoat ever could mimic this feature, then it'd win me over :p

It's great but it needs to be about x2 as fast to become usable.

I considered speeding it up, but didn't want to give a false impression of the current speed. Let people see it for what it is.
