I just saw that video today before dropping by to see yours. My reaction was much the same - I was stunned and overjoyed. For one so young to take a stand, even knowing there would be consequences, gives me great hope for our future. I was thinking the same thing when I first heard that story. To do that when you're a kid is so different, because what your classmates think of you is paramount to everything. To take that on is a difficult thing.

I just saw that video today before dropping by to see yours. My reaction was much the same - I was stunned and overjoyed. For one so young to take a stand, even knowing there would be consequences, gives me great hope for our future. It will take brave and compassionate kids like this to help sweep away the hypocrisy and establish a new way of being where respect, compassionate, equality and tolerance are no longer the exception but the rule. Notice the word equal is never mentioned, fairness is but reasonableness is. what we have is reasonable in a christiona country were marrage is a sacred union between a man and a woman in the eyes of god. 75% of america is Chirstian, therefore reasonabley speaking gays are treated fair.

I was under the impression that there is supposed to be a separation of Church and State. Because marriage is an institution of the State, (that's why you have to have a marriage license) then it doesn't matter if 100% of America is Christian...Gays and Lesbians should have the right to marry.
NOT to mention that there are Christian gays and lesbians. I should know. I'm one of them.

the kid is awesome and definitely a brave one. heck in middle school i remember this girl who got a referral every week for not standing and she was doing to it for religious reasons. so i can only imagine what this kid is going through.

all for the simple fact the person i love is a woman... strangely enough, i am not the only person like that. there are plenty of us who believe love is love but as of right now... people are deciding who i have RIGHT to marry and that is not equal by any means of the word. so i PRAY that this kid does open some eyes to what the real message was.

He is not saying that he is ashamed of being an american or that he would give up his citizenship... no. he is simply stating something in which he obviously is a firm believer of. a right that ALL OF THE SOLDIERS IN ANY WAR have given their life up for. a right for each and every person to live EQUALLY and have their RIGHTS protected which obviously is not happening in the gay marriage movement. there is a whole big pool of people dictating who i can love or call my spouse.

To chadmak09, jambler15, and myster1234.. i totally disagree that this has anything to do with someones american pride. all it is is SOMEONE standing up for the rights of a minority group that obviously the majority does not care to understand or hell even "tolerate". whether or not his parents put him up to it is irrelevant. it makes opens up the eyes of people to maybe comprehend the fact that a child can see that something is wrong then maybe something is out of wack here.

if you want equal rights and you should, join the libertarians and eliminate state marriage licenses and let everyone get legal unions and leave marriage to the churches. Liberals use this issue as a way to increase government regulation and to form a collectivist class in which they can secure voting blocks, thereby perpetuating a victim mentality which cripples society. I have also refused to stand or say the pledge of allegiance since 1975 for the same reason. LGBT people do not have the same rights as every other taxpaying American citizen. To say the pledge is to deny the inequality in our nation.

Jax, thanks for talking about this, but there was one small "fact" discrepancy. Will was sent to the principal by the substitute on October 5, 2009, so it has been going locally for well over a month. The international blogosphere, along with CNN and several other media outlets just picked up on it about a week ago, and it has gone viral. Again, thank you so much for talking about this - the more people that are aware, the better, and "more free" our country will be!

Hello. My son, Mac, is a good friend of Will Phillips' and has joined Will in sitting for Equal Rights. They attend different schools, in different disctricts, but they hang out alot together. Mac has also started a Facebook group in support of Will - there are more videos as well. The group on Facebook is called "Will The Mighty" - search for it. :)

you guys have reacted exactly as hoped by the parents. They encouraged him to do this & were ready to call the media as soon as he did. The parents are known gay agenda activists who have marched in gay agenda rally/disruptions numerous times. this is not a random kid who made a decision. It is just like balloon boy but the goal was media attention in response to the parents anger about maine voting no to gay marriage that the parents supported.

i agree cadmak09, this is pathetic and it is disgusting. If a person supports liberty and justice in the country, then there is no logic for them refuse the pledge simply because they don't like that fact that others have a differing opinion. One cannot judge the country, the flag, or the pledge just because the whole country is not 100% behind their particular opinion. Otherwise, by the same logic they should also leave the country instead of supporting it. The father is needs to step up.
